I have a 2002 Acura TL Type S with 216,000 miles I had it under my possession around 213,500. Buying it from my in-laws, had to hassle with them for me to do the exchange cause I really needed a car and they fix up cars and resale them. They told me they did work to the car already, fixing the transmission that costed him about 4K and added a new suspension kit I’m guessing 1-3k but he told me he had a hunch that the mechanic didn’t set it up correctly even though he said he trusts the mechanic personally. But it still needed work done to it. The interior wasn’t in bad condition, the seats are cracked a little bit but that’s expected since the car is older. AC works cause thank god I’m in Houston lol. I’ve done an alignment on it, it was pulling hard to the right, replaced the two front tires, got an oil change and new windshield wipers, but the hose for the windshield fluid got disconnected and is damaged :/ Gotta find some time to work on that. I do have some misfires every now and then and my gear shifter has a little personality 🥲, it would be a little tussle to get it into gear, or I would have to insert my key into the box to put it to neutral to start my car. I also have a leak for my steering fluid. But all these issues can be resolved if I put time into TH-cam and do some research 😂 Can’t wait to make adjustments and mods on the car. Car has been a true blessing and am truly grateful for it. My in-laws are doing me a service for letting me buy the car and helping me fix it as well. Also any recommendations on parts would be greatly appreciated, tips and personal experience with the car would also be helpful.

@bertoortiz7959 it's have to be from the 2007 accord. The av6 it's the only one Maybe capable of lasting under any type of boost. The trans from the RL was somewhat beefier aswell.
@@Justvn4thGenTL yea thats what i had heard so i did preventative maintance and did a trans service aka fluid. only thing is when my car is cold it sounds like a truck and letting off the gas grinds something until it gets warm. from research i seen thats some kind of timing pulley doing it but it only grinds when i let go off the gas mostly. so it feels like a transmission issue. idk i let it warm up and it drives fine 😳

My 2003 acura cl type s with timing belt water pump at 125k still going strong. Don't drive that much now with 150k. Those v6 5 speed ,torque converter and transmissions are absolute garbage and that's why acura fell off. They didn't fix the issue and only gave you the exact same parts that failed. So when ppl cry about the 4th gen GRILL..... it wasn't the GRILL it was the history of the transmission issues that scared ppl off not the GRILL
Steffan, you make great content videos. I didn't know this gen TL had tranny problems. I always knew the 2008 gen TL's had tranny issues. I vaguely remember the 1st gen TL.. I'm an Honda/Acura fan at that time but it was not memorable imho.
got a 03 TL-S near mint love it but that trans just literally started slipping hard on a week ago X_X in the Trans shop right now. X_X. The car only had 125000 km (77671 miles) on it
I have an 03 TL Type S and yeah that transmission absolutely is glass. Thankfully I was able to have it replaced. I love the car, but it's scary to think it could go again in a few years.
A video on why the 2nd gen TL didn't get the manual transmission the CL got in 2003 would make a good video for your channel. A lot of people get this wrong. It wouldn't fit my channel otherwise I would.
Just made 245whp on my 99 2g TL with a 4 speed auto. Just waiting for it to say goodbye so I can swap in a 6 speed manual from a honda accord or 3rd gen TL.
@SteffanJohal yup! Got the dyno sheet on my j series camshaft install video. Played with timing a bit since then and gained a bit or torque and a Broader power curve.
I wouldnt buy another 2nd gen, although i loved mine... But I dodged a bullet. Had 235k when i sold it and the trans never went out. 10 years later upgraded, uprgraded to a 3rd gen manual... Best car ive owned, even with 225k on the clock
I bought a 2001 CL back in September. When I bought it the fuel pump was dying so I had to replace it. It also had an emissions code that I don’t care enough to fix and it occasionally gets a multiple misfire code. After around 1,500 miles of ownership, the transmission began slipping and eventually 3rd gear just stopped engaging when the transmission was warm. I opted to replace the transmission with one from an 06 Accord doing most of the work myself. Only 500 miles with the ‘new’ transmission and it looks like 2nd gear is slipping. The car just runs and drives like shit and it’s becoming a money pit. In addition to all this, the engine burns oil and the car is basically a smoke machine for anyone behind it. I don’t think it’s very reasonable to swap the engine and rebuild the transmission so I will probably get rid of it. It breaks my heart but the car is a piece of shit. If anyone wants to convince me to keep it, feel free. Otherwise, what should I get? I was considering an 07/08 Acura TL or an 08 Accord because they have the newer 5-speeds.
Both of those are great options. I am surprised by that accord transmission not working, I have a 01 cl with an accord trans and it has over 400k km on it, no issues since the trans was replaced. I think it's possible you just got very unlucky unfortunately.

The key for the transmissions is to do an AV6 swap, swapping an 07 accord automatic into the 2nd gen TL/CL.
Straight swap ? Any modifications for this?
