I understand the second batch of FX guns have some changes, they have listened to the shooters who mentioned exactly what problems came about... Giles, your review is grand, and to the point. And must say, I love your style of presenting each and every review. Love the Accent you have as well, and humor. Being from California myself, it's refreshing. Been into airguns for many years now, and thanks the most of the UK airgunners and their "very helpful" videos I have way more knowledge of this favorite sport of ours. Even as a very young boy I was into all things UK. It must have been the Sherlock Holmes books and English movies lol.

Hi Giles big fan of your reviews, i have to say I've been shooting mine in 177 for 12 months and its been spot on no problems whatsoever, BUT I've been after a 22 barrel for some time and got one 6 weeks ago, and i have to agree with you you 100 % what a big improvement on an already superb gun I'm shooting JSB jumbo heavy 18 gr and the grouping is tighter less floaty in outdoor conditions and more reliable, don't get me wrong love it in 177 but the 22 has the edge, plus it carries one hell of a punch when it comes to knock down power
    regards paul

One other thing. I really need help choosing between two rifles and thought you could help me out. The rifles that I'm looking at are the air arms s400 and the air arms s200 I don't really want a multi shot but I would like to do a bit of hunting with it and target shooting preferably a .177 cause that's what I'm used too.
    Great video and thanks again

Nice review Giles, I am surprised how little difference in power their was between .177 and .22 given the rifle squirts the same amount of air for each. I would have expected to lose at least 1 ft lb of energy going to .177 from .22.

    • @AirgunGearShow
      @AirgunGearShow  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

When I did the calculations I sat back and went, nnaa that can't be right, but did it again and again, and yep it was, I think the .32 and .23 swaps round.....the ports for the barrel and probe are really different when you look at them.....Have a good weekend. G

AirgunGearShow Yeah it seems the perfect air rifle in many ways, my only worry would be frightening the public wandering around a field shooting bunnies with it! It's a bit like using a S&W 1522 in the field!

      @AirgunGearShow  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You should be stealthy like me, then they won't see you. I have a camo suit, its actually a net to cover a tank with but fits me fine. They think its just a hedge in the field.

Why not try the Air Arms 18 grain pellet? It's made by JSB, but with Air Arms' own pellet dies. It's been said the AA pellets have tighter control over head diameter. just a thought.

Is the regulator still adjustable for fine tuning on the limited one? Its only the front hammer "power" adjuster that is locked out right? One could clearly see the adjuster screw in the guard, and the power wheel on the side is still there adjusting hammer stroke length. It seems only to be the spring tensioner in the front that isnt adjustable on these.. So it could still be tuned for competition right?

maybe a stupid question . Are 12 ft pound enough to kill a rabit ? and what would be the correct distance to shoot ... ? thanks for an excelent review ...

    • @icuppu2
      @icuppu2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

The first thing is that you need to deliver 4 fpe to the head, or 5 fpe to the body to kill a rabbit, or any other small fury creature under 5 pounds. The fun part is calculating at what distance your muzzle energy will still have the 4 fpe for accuracy delivery.
Let us say your gun can deliver 4 fpe at up to 50 yards, great! Not so fast, you need need to have your shooting accuracy to within 2 MOA, or 1 inch grouping at 50 yards, or you will only torture kill the animal with a body shot outside the required 1 inch group for the accurate head shot.
O.K., so much for the sniper career out the window. Now, at what range can you deliver a one inch group? That is your hunting distance and can your gun pellet combination deliver the 5 fpe at your hunting distance? If so, go for it! Make sure you use a range finder and/or know your scopes MOA or mil-dot interpretation.
One mil-dot is 1/1000th the range to your target, so a one inch group inside a mil-dot spacing would be 1,000 x 1 inch to equal 5,000 inches and dividing by 12 gives 416.666 feet and further dividing by 3 gives 138.888 yards.
Now that is a challenge to accomplish and a most enjoyable one.
So, it appears that the major limiting factor is your shooting ability with the proper combination of gun and pellet weight.
For best accuracy, indoors, no wind, Olympic 10 meter range, shoot at a velocity of 567.89 fps; either lower the pressure, or select a heavier pellet. For silhouette power and accuracy combination do the same as stated but use 890 fps, which is Mach 0.8, which varies slightly by environmental and location.
The biggest advise is to watch as many TH-cam airguns ballistic videos and keep in mind that over 90% of claims are only opinions. I base my opinions on the laws of physics, thermodynamics, maths, mechanical statistics and a hell of a lot of experimental shooting.
Get yourself a gun of different power plants such as CO2, break barrel spring and gas piston, PCP, HPA, and if you win the lotto, buy me a helium airgun because I am dying of curiosity.
      Enjoy your hunting journey.

Hello, i'm from Spain and i've been following You for quite some time, the thing is that i've finally decided to buy a BB gun (4.5mm) and I wanna know which pistols fit me the best, This is what i'm looking for, I hope it helps:
    -100-200 euros (more or less)
    -Full metal
    -Accurate af
    -Reliable and durable
-CO2 is prefered but it would not matter if it's pump action
-don't really mind about the type of magazine
    -good old 400fps or more
-I don't mind at all about blowback.
I think it is enough, thank You very much whether You respond or not.
I love your videos btw, greetings from Spain! Have a good day!

Out of interest, if you buy it in 12ft/lb .22 then swap out to a .177 won't it be shooting over 12ft/lb? The .22 uses more air to get the right velocity doesn't it? *Edit* you mention this about 3 minutes after I commented haha!

    Greetings from Canada Giles.
Here in Canada non FAC airguns are limited to 500 fps by law and are typically sold at 495 fps. I'm not familiar with the ft. lb. rating you use so my question is how many fps equates to 12 ft. lbs. with a .22 pellet?
I called the FX distributor for Canada yesterday and while they do offer the Impact, it is only available in the FAC version. If you can obtain the rifle "locked down" as you said, not to exeed 12 ft.lbs., why can't I get the same thing not to exeed 500 fps???
    Any thoughts on this?
I currently use the Benjamin NP2 in .22 with a Hawke airmax sidewinder scope, but I would like to get something with far more accuracy.
I didn't mind the commedy bit and have enjoyed your videos for some time. Here's another thumbs up.
Edited: I guess I should have watched the whole video before I started typing this query. Can I assume then that 560 fps is 12 ft. lbs.? Darn it, that is 60 fps too much.
Any ideas? Perhaps deal with the factory directly on a custom build?

Kevin Parker the fps will depend on the weight of the pellet ??

Hi Darrin, are you making a statement or asking a question? I'll assume that's a question.
If an airgun produces a consistent volume of air at a consistent pressure (psi) for each and every shot, then the velocity will vary if you use assorted pellets of different weights. Lighter pellets would travel faster than heavier. The "energy" however would be the same. You can look up the formula to compute that if you wish.
That's why I consider the English method of standardizing energy to be superior for a law to Canada's method of standardizing velocity.
I just went through the 8 different brands and types of .22 pellets I have on hand and they range in weight from 15.43grn. for the heaviest down to 11.5 grn. for the lightest.
I don't have access to a chrono but just for the hell of it, let's say that my rifle shoots the RWS 15.43 match pellet at a muzzle velocity of 495 fps. That would be legal in Canada for a non FAC gun.
Now what happens if the R.C.M.P. seize my rifle to test it but they use a 14 grn. pellet instead, or worse yet an 11.5 grn. pellet. Now I can't tell you what fps. those lighter pellets would chrono, but I know it would exceed 500 fps. Presto, I just became a criminal.
Not a very good system to base a law on if you ask me!
I have since contacted the factory and they will custom build me a FX Impact in .22 that conforms to Canada's non FAC legislation. I will have to import it through the Canadian FX distributor and it won't be cheap, but at least it's an option.
Thanks for your response Darrin. I hope this answered your question.
      Best wishes from Canada.

Hello again thanks for replying. Sorry to bug you but i am trying to get into hunting but there aren't many places around where I live. There is a farm at the top of my road and was wondering if you could give me any tips on how to get a permission, surely I can't just wonder up to his door with a air rifle and ask him? Thanks again
    Sam

Hi Sam, Don't go anywhere that you don't have permission with a rifle, it may not end well. Its tricky, the farmer could like or dislike shooters so I don't have the golden answer. Maybe, print your details out and ask to shoot tins only in a field first. Build confidence, then ask if he has anything he needs doing. Just a thought. Best of luck. Giles

Great review Giles, nice to see someone standing up for .22, the Tony and Ted sketch very funny. Thanks. How would you rate it against the Pulsar?

I already asked. He won't do that comparison. Not hard to guess why :_(
