I have been shooting .25 since the 80s and at 11ftlbs and I have shot no end of rabbits pigeons squirrels out to 30/35 yards and I still do. I have prove time after time to sceptics who have come out with me and seen the big .25 do the job just as the .177 and .22 do. Those who say you can't either can't shoot or just can't be bothered to get to know how this calibre shoots but then come out with the usual rubbish that the pellet drops out the end of the barrel or you would be better throwing a brick but I stopped listening to these would be airgun know it alls long ago.
I shoot a ratworks tuned ultra in .25 cal. Its lazer accurate with the AA Diablo fields at 50m range. 5p groups. Producers 11.8ftlb with the aa at 25.4 grain. Laser range finder and scope calibration makes it my go to hunting rifle. Its amazing.
Giles you need to look a bit closer at 12ftlb .25 and the manufacturers who do them weihrauch bsa hatsan all do sub 12ftlb .25 rifles I have one from each manufacturer in .25.
Great video as always Giles. I currently use a sub 12flb .25 HW80k. Its an absolute beast propelling 20grain FTT pellets at a tad over 500 fps. I can produce 5p sized 5 shot groups all day with this at 25 yards. This thing bowls rats over like skittles. .25 any good? You bet it is!
Its really embarrassing that we have that law in the uk of sub 12 and all because of money and greed from our british air rifle makers..! Grown men treated as if they're kids in front of the whole world....! To strict in england and its suffocating, im a keen bushcrafter but we are not allowed to camp ANYWHERE unless its a blumin camp/caravan park, even tho im clean and respectful it makes no odds. Cant hunt freely, cant camp freely, cant defend yourself your home or your family freely and the list huge. USA you dont know how lucky you really are, you have so much more freedom and your rights better protected than most other countries, keep up the good work. Thats my probably ott rant on silly uk laws anyway. Enjoyed the video btw, found it very interesting and informative. ✊
I have an Artemus M30 in sub 12 foot 25 calibre and I have standard mounts on it and 30 yards I can quite comfortably take small beer bottle lids every time dead centre. I absolutely love my 25 calibre I’m so glad I brought it
Again take a look at vermin hunters TV and look at the range rabbits are shot in the video with a sub 12ftlb hw99 in .25 25yards is no problems try double that and head shots.
As Ted says “..I love doing the geeky ones..” and I love watching them. These help make me a better shooter. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks Giles. You’re the best.
I'd guess that a .25 pellet leaves a 12 foot pounds air rifle at a similar speed that a .177 pellet leaves a 6 foot pounds air pistol so should still be pretty accurate up to about 20m?
I had a 25 cal edgun leshiy classic, it was using the much lighter H&N Ftt pellets with great results and was a brutal ratting machine, the whack it made was nuts! And Yes!it was legal and was around 11.5ftlbs but was too slow for long range but it would knock down a rat at 40y if it stayed still long enough as it easily took a good second to get there as the Rats would sometimes move before the pellet would arrive. But all in all was a wonderful rifle and had loads of fun ratting with it, I have since upgraded to a leshiy 2 now in .22 as the single shot was very very limiting
I feel for you sub 12 guys, but you still have fun with it. I love my FX MK2 in .30 , I have watched and enjoyed your videos for years. From Texas carry on.
I'm surprised that this experiment and subsequent information isn't already out there,, from different length barrels and with the three main caliber pellets and different weights and going from say 10 yards and going out to say 50,,, recording the drop in velocity, energy and the actual drop of the pellet in centimeters.. I just would have thought someone would have done this already..
I think it’s pushing the limit and we will never be able to go above sub 12 in the UK so I think a 177 and a 22 is Ample in this country it is a shame but that’s the law and we can’t change the law can we unless we go for a licensed rifle then a 25 would be very good
sub 12 ft lbs in .25 in my eyes is only good for close shooting like rats and pigeon up to 30 yards , as his is what i use in my single shot hatsan . i would not shoot / hunt further with this .
I watch you from Slovakia. I wish it would be more often but of course we know quality is better than quantity 🤓. It is in this time one of the things that make me feel much better… :) nice videos!
Very current for me, I've being trying to source a .25 barrel kit for my .177 Dreamline Tactical Compact and it seems that it's not supported. Plenty of stockists (Mcavoy, Pellpax, DAILeisure) are actively selling sub 12ftlbs .25 barrel kits for FX Dreamlines but Sportsmanguncentre say it's not supported by FX?
I found this video very interesting, myself I will not be using a .25 sub 12 gun, because sending more lead down range in sub 12 does not in any large degree hit harder. (yes I know they do hit harder, but it’s a lot harder to hit the target. The benefits do not even come close to the disadvantages). I have had a little look around and found these sub 12 .25 that are for sale new guns. I have not said where they are for sale as I don’t want to rock anyone’s boat AirMaks Caiman X - .25 Air Rifle Calibre - .25 Overall Length - 695mm (27.3") Weight - 3.05kg Barrel Length - 520mm (20.47") Power - 16J Cocking - Sider lever action Trigger - two-stage Safety - Manual Artemis M30 - .25 Air Rifle The M30 rifle is perfect for either target shooting or pest control. He has plenty such videos. Recently an entry level HW 99 (50) in .22. Click on channel name; then video tab - or search for HW99 AND HW95 (tested at 100 yards).
Over the years Ive had quite a few air rifles and different calibers my last air rifle (30+ yrs ago) was a Titan Mohawk single stroke pneumatic that I had converted to .20 cal it consistently delivered 11.6ftlb I dont know why its such a rare caliber its the ideal sub 12ftlb flat trajectory like .177 and hard hitting like .22
A good video, Giles. If it's all the same to you, though, I'll stick to the usual calibers but throw in my Weihrauch .20 cal, for extra fun. I shan't be tempted by anything .25 size.
Considering that even the tiny .22 short produces 50+ Foot pounds of muzzle energy..12 FP sounds like the energy of a thrown by hand rock. But, I have busted a lot of tree rats with Air rifles. one of my .22 rifles is even Co2 and it will drop squirrels ,, Grave yard Dead, out to 25 yards. at that range it is hitting with maybe 4 foot pounds.. But it will consistently put that 4 footpounds between the eye and ear. Vermin hunting does not take a cannon.. it takes accuracy.
I smoke a pipe. All my shirts have holes in them . Your fine. Extra ventilation is good. Foot pounds of kinetic energy (fpe) doesn’t necessarily indicate terminal performance of a projectile on a given target. That large heavy pellet inserting itself into a rat’s body would be like a bowling ball penetrating a human. It would knock one over and send one to the place “…from whence no traveler returns.”
Bragging how well you get along with tyrannical laws is not a positive sir. But joking aside, have you folks tried to appeal the law or is it next to impossible?
It will never happen the laws will get tighter as the years pass, Scotland has already introduced a law of all air guns must be on a licence even sub 12ft lb. Peoples opinion on guns in the UK are alot different to the US, and most believe no body should own a gun of any kind.
I've had fac for many years now and wont be renewing it next year so ill be down to sub 12S . I have also got rid of all my pcp and now have a liking for break barrel gasram rifles. I have a few diffrent rammers but my main rifle is a hw90 and is currently on my fac putting out 18.2ftlb . If I reduce its power to sub12 can I take it off my ticket and still keep it?
I used to have alot of rifles including a fac wolverine putting out 45ftlb but I lost my main shooting permission due to the land owners death so I got rid of all my pcp and only kept 1 of my fac rifles witch is a 22 hw90k shooting at 750fps with a 14.66g pellet, I can push the power up more but this is my sweet spot. I mostly target shoot with it now but I will take rabbits and pigeons out to 65 yards with it and I've not come found anyone that can shoot better with a recoiling rifle
Gilles......Any chance you would be willing to do a video about the rifles for a left handed shooter? Personally I am looking at a FX unit but would love to find something as good for less money. Think it is called 'Dreamline' or something like that.
As a kid in thr 80 early 90s i has a .couple of .22 rifeles with scopes, i csnt remember their makes, but when i do ewmwber is my day use to tell me about thr oxebow springs was in them and warn me about their power. They would both send a .22 though two fence plank, about an inch and a half of fence plank. We would take them hunting in the local feilds with my dads shotguns. Up intil i was anout 11, then he would treust me with the shotguns. He died in 2003 so i cant get details. In 97 i then joined the marines, left in 01 and ive never shot anything since. Seeing these rifles with presure vessels on the front look really strange, sort of futuristic yet ugly, and flabby.
So now that you chaps and chapetts in the UK need licenses for your airguns, why haven't the laws changed to increase the energy limit or abandoned the 12ft/lb restriction altogether?
Just because you can use a sub 12 FPE .25 airgun does not mean there is any advantage to it - except to the ammo companies selling you more expensive pellets. On second thoughts, slow pellets probably do less damage to structures around pesting jobs. 600 FPS is also slow, and might work "better" - if you can go over 12 FPE.
I always watching you from bicol Philippines.... hope that you give an attention to my message...can you be my sponsor for that unit sir just the cheapest only..... thanks and God bless to you sir.....
I pressed I don' like just to be the first one :-) Highly entertaining to see you island apes obviously using those odd numbers like 26 yards without any problem.
Sub 12 makes you better shots? or just appears that way since you have to be right on top of things when you shoot LOL Seriously, I feel for my British brothers having to deal with that limit. Very good video. Bet the Predator GTO's in that sub 12 gun would work out well.

No restrictions here. My HW80 springer in .25 cal. is a beast. The only thing needed is a strong arm to break the barrel and a tin with pellets.
Love these types of videos.
Im spoiled that im in the USA so even my weakest airgun is 15 Ftlb, but accuracy is my goal not power.

Such idiocy how your lawmakers chose such arbitrary numbers for muzzle energy. Shame you're so restricted.
Tuning a FAC .25 down to 12ftlbs is a bit like filing the corners off a 50p coin to get it to pass as a 10p piece, enough said,

I have a sub 12ftlb lb air rifle in .25. I blow rats up at garden ranges. Love it.
Great video always been curious about the big ol .25 in sub 12
Really good way of showing why .25 isn't going to be manufactured and sold in sub 12. Excellent video as always Giles 👌 👍
…it is sold here in Germany even with 7,5 Joules. I own a HW97 in .25 and it is really fun to shoot up to 25 meters!
Holes in shirt front !. Still smoking resin ?.
Fantastic very interesting test video , ill stick to .177 and .22 , put it done well. 👍 really enjoyed this Video 👍😎👍

Superb review sir, kindly let us know ur pellet has what fpe at 50 yard.
Que aso y desperdicio tiene tanta tecnología si al final una piedra lanzada con la mano tiene mas potencia...... absurda su ley
interesting! try some lead free, faster lighter?
That bottle clamp bipod doesnt make you worry about the threads at all?

Nice one Giles, your the man that can make things happen. Cheers from Simon.... York
Great vid Giles .
I always look forward to your posts.
Great and informative video as usual Giles 👍
Hi is there an app on your phone ? For you chrony.

My 1.77 remington express is awesome.

Why the odd measurement of 26 yard and 53?
Because it was measured quickly with a tape, but the range finder gave the further readings...
12ft lb, what is that in metric?
Approximately 16 Joules.
GTO's
Top stuff👌👍
