That doesn’t sound like a Jefferson quote. I’ve read Jefferson books and many quotes by him. That doesn’t sound like him and you should take it down. Both of those are such powerful pieces of wisdom! The first one about not asking others to do what you wouldn’t do yourself speaks volumes about integrity and leadership. Leading by example is always the best way.
And the second quote really highlights the value of thoughtful communication-knowing when to speak and when to stay silent is a true mark of wisdom. There's so much to be gained by speaking with purpose, rather than just filling the silence. 😊

If you really want something, save up and wait until you can afford it. Yet, that magic credit card or buying that fancy vehicle with all the bells and whistles is how many people go. That is why you hear all those debt relief ads, especially the ones for credit cards.

Don't spend money you don't have. Jefferson is often cited by Conservatives against deficit spending. However, Jefferson pushed the Louisiana Purchase, which involved a massive loan (ironically, mostly from British banks). Often what is called government spending is government investment. I would include all money "spent" on education.

Franklin and Jefferson were close friends, they might have been thinking and discussing the same things at times.

You might be onto something! Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin were both prolific thinkers and writers, and they shared a lot of common values during their time. Franklin, in particular, was known for his witty aphorisms and practical wisdom, many of which still resonate today. It's entirely possible that Jefferson, like many of us, was influenced by Franklin's insights. They were both part of that intellectual circle during the American Enlightenment, so their ideas were bound to overlap in some ways. Regardless, Franklin’s legacy of clever, timeless sayings is definitely hard to top!

Where was this shot? A beautiful urban street. We could do urban design like this in North America. It would be environmentally sound economically viable and would provide casual exercise by its walkability. We could tame the automobile and make a better healthier more social and meaningful life. Just saying.

Here's my favourite Jefferson quote. It didn't make it onto the list, possibly because it contradicts several of the others. "The acquisition of Canada this year, as far as the neighborhood of Quebec, will be a mere matter of marching; & will give us experience for the attack of Halifax the next, & the final expulsion of England from the American continent.” Thomas Jefferson to William Duane, 4 August 1812, a month after the United States declared war on Britain in order to snatch the rest of North America while the Brits were busy with Napoleon. The reason he said "a mere matter of marching" was because, in their usual ignorance of things north of the line, he, like all of America's War Hawks, believed that the colonists of British North America were eager to shed the cruel ministrations of Crazy King George and would welcome American troops with open arms. Oops!

Sorry, my intention wasn't clear. Accuracy is important. The US flag is referred to as the Stars and Stripes, or sometimes Old Glory. Those who know that might use mistakenly calling it the Stars and Bars as justification to discredit the rest of your comment out of some over-inflated sense of nationalism, despite the rest of your comment being factual and accurate.
