Like having best health insurance from Microsoft but when your kid needs medical treatment, a Microsoft programmer is scheduled for unemployment rapidly. Microsoft only has a few star programmers to make people believe the Microsoft illusiveness ultimate programmers job. In reality it's better working conditions at a Microsoft helpdesk. Back about 4-5 years ago (I think) Microsoft laid off their in house Quality Assurance and went with Windows Insiders for QA.
    Insiders don't have the time etc to do full on in depth like in house QA. They also log issues and then Microsoft employees have to review logs.
    The 1809 file deleting bug was listed by Insiders in their logs. However, that got lost in the ether and no person at Microsoft saw it before things went south.
    I paid 30 dollars extra to put Win 10 Pro on a new custom order ThinkPad. I set updates to wait 30-60 days. I can guess that any bugs have been quashed by then.
    For the biannual updates, I make a bootable USB and let it run overnight.

    02:15 AFAIK Microsoft wants to Change the way how Windows handels External Drives. with 2019-05 they plan to get rid of the manual "disconnect this drive" button in the lower right( for safe removal) because they reworked the whole system. they want to make it so, you dont need to press it at all (ever again). i read a official article somewhere that stated that you need to disconnect all your external usb / flash etc drives once, so windows can install this update.after it you dont need to manually remove any external stuff ever again.

    Sorry about the long post, but every time I try to cut some of it out...
    [Earlier post, ^]
    ^ What's that all about?
    Well, that's my cracked Win-10. It has a coupla issues. There's something about the sound, and video / audio playback, and stammering & stuttering and then crashing the whole damn thing. And that's not the copy of Windows, that's the virtualbox it's running in.
    I don't know what the problem is, or what's causing it, but if I use the standard default Intel (simulated) audio hardware, it can crash the box. But if I change to the less common (used to be common, maybe 8 years ago) audio device, it gets sputters and stops and breaks, but the system doesn't fall over. If I go to the more normal (now) Intel audio, the video (youtube) and tv play, gets better (still not perfect) but the whole damn thing can lock up and then crash.
    I'm going to try and clone the system, so it's on a different piece of hard disk, because I'm wondering if maybe there's a couple of bad sectors or something...
    If this wasn't my fully cracked copy, I'd maybe just delete it and install again. But then, would I have the same issue? Would I simply be puting the same bits of executable code back on the same suspect bit of disk?
    I've got two different Windows install media, and the other one (which is not cracked) seems to work... well - it's better, put it that way.
    I don't really want to nuke the whole thing, as a first step, I want to try and tinker with it, but have a spare...
    I was hoping the big 1903 update would fix all this, but ... it doesn't seem to have made the slightest bit of difference...
    ====================
    Ok, boots runs... You can get a case in the tv, where the sound breaks. If you then shut sown Chromium, and restart it, it comes back.
    ... although it can go again, like it just did.
    No - I tell a lie ~ The whole fkcun box just vanished, exactly like the other one.
    Ok, now I know. That's going to be deleted, in fact I'm going to junk both of them. That's about 300GB of disk I'll get back, anyway...
    ====================
    [fresh win-10 install]
    One thing I've done different, 10-1 was a Home edition, but 10-2 was a Pro. I've used the newer install ISO and I've chosen Pro, just like the one that works.
    I'm not sure if I'm going to try and hunt up a crack for it or not, I'm not sure I need one...
    ....
    I guess I can't refer to them as cracked & un-cracked any more, can I?
    They're called 10-2 (the one I had yesterday) and 10-3 (the one I'm installing now.)
    ==================
    Oh yeah, and I was rather careful to step past the bit where it asks about accounts, and other accounts, and email accounts, and maybe youtube or twitter or facebook accounts, and then all your other devices you should tell us about, like your phone, slab, set-top-box... and then asks if you're sure you want to turn down all the many obvious benefits of using microsoft.com to log in every time, and then asks if you're sure about that....
    That's right guys, I don't really want to tell you my fkcun GENDER! It's like Prince Caspian and the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe - it's Narnia Business!
    ===================
    Nope ~ 10-3 can have a few sputters and then shut down the whole virtual-machine as well...
    I wish the fk I knew what was doing it..... Oh well, fire up the old Win-7 I guess....
    It only happens in Win-10, when you're running the Chrome browser, and using it to watch the Foxtel tv streaming. Whether the Win-10 is activated or not has no effect.
    ===================
    Ok, progress - it's not just Chrome, and it's not just Foxtel-Streaming. I tried that and the sound died, so I closed Chrome, restarted it, we did that 4 or 5 times. Then I tried Firefox, on TH-cam. I was watching the trailer for the next Terminator movie, and the whole virtual-machine just vanished. Firefox didn't crash, Windows didn't crash, the virtual-machine just crashed.
    Now I've had two different ISO install disks for Windows, and I thought all my problems related to the older one, but that's wrong. Then I installed the build 1903 update, and I thought that fixed it, but it doesn't. It seems to start (many times) with a loss of audio, so I played around a bit with that, but that doesn't seem to do it. I was watching in Chrome, and the audio died, so I can shut down Chrome, and fire up FireFox. Now I can't watch the Foxtel in Firefox, they tell me it has to be Chrome but I can watch YouChoob. But after about 15 minutes doing that, the whole box and dice vanishes...
    It used to happen with the ADSL network, but now I'm on NBN. I am still with Foxtel as an ISP, but I don't think that's the problem. There's something about Windows 10, any one of about 3 or 4 different builds, and the Oracle VirtualBox VMs. It's never happened in Win-7 or any of my Linux distros.
    I'd like to have a second alternative up my sleeve. At this moment I've got 3 different Windows installs that will run Chrome and play Foxtel, but 2 of them can go away at any moment.
    I guess I could go find a copy of Android desktop, and then see if I can trick the Foxtel ap to install on that and run.
    There's another one. They've stopped supporting the Silver-Light ap they had, but I think you could probably find it again... But then I've got to decide which device I'm going to de-register to register this device, to play Foxtel, because you pay Foxtel the fair + reasonable fee of about $70 a month and you can watch Foxtel on devices, but Foxtel isn't that the money you pay to get Foxtel to enable 6 devices to watch Foxtel, and your Foxtel device will do the Foxtel thing and go Foxtel some other Foxtel device before it will play Foxtel on 7 devices in one house. Did I ever mention how sick and Fkcun tired I am of Foxtel? Because You can Foxtel; ring the Foxtel people on the Foxtel phone and speak to the Foxtel technical support, who will explain as if to a two year old that they support streaming Foxtel but only on Windows. Slabs? Yes, those are Android. So you must support Linux. No, I just told you, we support Apple and Android. But Android is Linux. No, it's not. At least, we don't support it. (Ten minute argument about the kernel in Android and what is or isn't Linux.) Ends with something like "Well I tell you what, smarty. If you know so much about computers and IT and all, why are you on the phone to ask for my help at the help-desk, to get your crack-pot backyard operating system working?"
    I fkcun hate Foxtel, I really really do....
    Now did I mention, that apart from keeping working copies of DOS and Windows for Work-Gropes and stuff, Win-2000, as historical exhibits and curiosities, like a suit of armour on the wall, the only thing I regularly do in Windows, that I pretty much can't do any other way, is watch bloody Foxtel.
    It doesn't ever seem to happen to the Win-7. I hope it doesn't start to....
    ^Proof readers are werth their wait in gold.^

    I installed 1903 as recently as August, and can confirm the USB thing is still an issue. Another annoyance is they hidden audio controls even deeper than they already have in the last update. Seems more like a regression. I ended up making Control Panel shortcuts to get direct access to "Playback Devices," and "Recording Devices" ..which I use many times a day. Last time they made the systray icon take you to "Windows Sounds" instead (Why? how often do people change these settings?) ..and this time around, they ditched this altogether and replaced it with a useless app, where disabled devices can't be seen.
    Leaving 7 pairs of BT h.phones, and 3 output setups active at the same time causes problems, but M$ assumes we're too dumb to disable theses when not in use. I've had issues in games, like ESO in the past where too many active sound devices caused glitchy play. Hey, at least BT media keys finally work again. 1803 was the last version they worked before 1903. For 1806 and 1809, using "fwd" / "prev" track on BT devices would open Cortana (lol. WHY?).

    My HD with Win10 on it crapped itself a few days ago and I couldn't recover it. So I put in the 1T HD I had bought for an upgrade and installed Win 7. Once all the updates were done. @Kaze Kanata Please consider to educate yourself on the topic as open-minded as possible. Just because you had problems with one specific Linux configuration, does not mean anybody does. Linux has its downsides, sure but you are being ignorant here. Without reading your comment beyond the second sentence, I suspected you would be a noob to Linux, never having experience in the past when Linux actually had no proper Windows compatibility to speak of and many applications weren't available. You don't need to "do apt-get install blah blah on terminal", you can actually use a distro with a GUI for most stuff and leave the guys bragging about installing Gentoo aside. The terminal is a shortcut actually. How often have you thought about installing like 100 programs on Windows (not through a gaming platform, but standalone) and not having to worry about getting that one adware or virus installer along the line? That cannot happen in Linux and you can actually sandbox Windows programs and run them almost as if you where on Windows, apart from actual OS integration. Next point: Never use WINE unless unavoidable. If you switch to Linux to use Windows programs without native Linux support, you are doing it wrong. Good luck getting immediate help with a Windows bug on that note.
      The article you linked is biased btw. as it describes non-issues as Nvidia's driver which is closed-source on Windows, so using "Nouveau" on Linux would not be needed to compete in the first place as Windows uses proprietary drivers as only option and it lists issues that you COULD have. If we would list those for Windows, you would need more than a day to read the article as fixing a really broken Windows on your own is next to impossible due to its close-source nature. Also, listing problems Linux _may_ have that are common in Windows too seems redundant and using macOS as an example of a true Windows competitor seems sketchy as macOS has even less compatibility with many Windows-only programs (like exclusive Games and especially some coll open-source projects) nowadays without the proper support of Vulkan or ya know, custom hardware without "basically" pirating the OS and modifying kexts or even more...
      Here are some personal favorites for easy and pleasant Linux usage without using the terminal often:
      Pop!_OS (or some other Ubuntu base)
      Manjaro
      Antergos
      Solus

    I'd be fine with having everything tabbed, but it would have to be opt-in feature and it would have to be compact. Hate tabs that take huge chunks of space from UI.
    Also glad that they're giving users control over updates, though I understand why they wouldn't want to do that with regular users and with some power users, but having options especially with OS that keeps constantly changing, evolving and in some cases even devolving is definitely something I like to see.
    Good video too. My tired self felt like there was good separation between news and opinion related to said news. And no incessant foaming and hate. I like.

      You could just try running a Linux Distro as a Virtual Box Guest on a Windows 10 Host. Problem with that is: You can't share a Single Folder between the Linux Guest and the Windows 10 Host, Because Some 'genius' at MalewareSoft made the Folder Permissions GLOBAL FOR ALL FOLDERS, SYSTEM WIDE and Not Individually. (You are Forced by Malwaresoft to Compromise the Security of ALL OPERATING SYSTEM FOLDERS just to 'Share' the one.) ..Because Real people in the Real World might actually access the Internet. ..And if ALL of the folders are required to have Read/Write Enabled just to share the One Folder. That Compromises the Security of EVERYTHING in Windows 10.

    Yea, and the optional feature update is also going to be offered to 1803 and 1809 Windows 10 builds. You won't be forced to take the new version of Windows 10 builds until the build on your system is about to expire. About 18 months. Than you are auto updated to the new Windows 10 build.
    I also heard that MS Paint is staying in Windows 10, instead of being moved to the Windows store. And the new MS Edge-Chromium, will offer an Internet Explorer Compatibility Mode.

      @@godnyx117 Actually you don't for the most part. Apart from some really new titles and some Ubisoft sh** that would not work with the "NAT mode" despite Uplay downloading the game, you actually can play almost anything that is not on the Microsoft Store or uses major Anticheat or DRM (like most Battle-Royale and bigger Ubisoft titles) without major glitches or degradation. However, troubleshooting will become more common. I recommend using Lutris with proper DXVK dependencies and keeping your distro as updated as possible. Using Nvidia or AMD does not matter that much, just never use the third-party opensource "Nouveau" Nvidia driver for anything serious as it mostly depends on reverse engineering.

    TL;DR for my post belew: I hope this fixes OBS issue so I don't have to buy a dedicated streaming PC.
    So does this fix the common problem of having OBS encoder lag while trying to play 144hz gaming -> stream at constant 60 FPS -> using two monitors (one 144hz and one 60hz for chat/obs)? Cause right now it just seem like even with a Ryzen 2700X and a RTX 2070, I still encoding lag or stutter gameplay weather using NVENC or x264 playing high fps games. I really hope these update can fix that so I don't have to buy a 2nd dedicated streaming PC. Then again, Ryzen 3000 is coming round the corner and my plan with that is to buy the next high end Ryzen 3000; use that as a gaming computer and put this 2700X into a dedicated stream PC build. Anyways that's my thoughts. As always thanks for being the voice to this issue that we need so Microsoft/Nvidia don't sit around and blame each other.

    Hey Microsoft... instead of you having to curate the Game Mode white list, how about giving the user control? Let me white list applications just like I can with antivirus. Are you really going to stay on top of every build of every screen capture software out there, no matter how obscure? What about the countless other use cases you haven't thought of yet where a user might want a program to retain normal processing priority even when running a full-screen application? You're on it? All of them in a way that satisfies everyone? Yeah?
    In the UI, a checkbox for "Include suggestions from Microsoft" will also appease both the paranoid and the pragmatic alike. You can auto-populate it, but if people are worried you'll slip something in they don't like, they can uncheck that and take total manual control of the Game Mode white list.
