could you talk about how you learned your professional filming skills? did you take classes? self taught? could you give some advice?? It seems every single youtuber have some very good filming skills. I was just wondering how. Thank you
@@lawrencef3560 Everything was self taught! All through youtube and just trial and error. I started filming and taking photos on a go pro about 4 years ago and learned lightroom. photoshop, and premiere pro all through youtube. Best thing you can do is just go out and shoot as much as possible and don't get discouraged. I would say I am really only happy with 5% of my work from the last 3 years, the other 95% has been the "trial and error" part of learning and finding my style. It takes time and I definitely still have a ton to learn and grow so make sure to have patience when first starting out!
You definitely have the most outstanding, visually stunning, well edited videography/photography presentations of any of the "overlanding" category channels on YT.
Perfectly happy with you not being a weekly or even “regular” uploader. And it makes complete sense, hearing how you talk about this lifestyle, that you wouldn’t ever vlog (especially coming from someone who is also an introvert) but I think that’s also why so many of us enjoy your sporadic uploads. The quality and dedication that you put into your work and we get to watch it for free?? That’s more than enough imo. Have always been interested in the on the road lifestyle so thanks for the Q&A!
Definitely can relate to appreciating the undocumented moments and pockets of solitude. Few things compare to being alone out there in such beautiful places. Also huge thanks for the shoutout, you’re the best ☺️🙌🏻
I bought new 4K TV and the first thing we saw to test was your beautiful shots. It was nice to know more about you. All the best for your upcoming changes. Have a great time always. More power to you! 🌷💐
I work at home for 2 years and watching this guy roadtrip and put up these wondetful videos of nature, national parks, trees and scenic drives and the western frontier's beauty has amazing 👏. Thank you Drew! Us boring office job people are living vicariously through you and other travelers on youtube. Keep it up. The cinematography is just breathtaking and the music is 👌💗. Hope to see it one day too.. We love this channel . Thank you !
Hey Drew, I wanted to just take a moment to compliment you on your talent and skill. That opening is awe-inspiring, of the sort of caliber expected in a National Geographic program. Well done! I admire your tenacity, bravery, and creativity in choosing this life. Whether you keep doing this, or eventually stop and own a home, you'll always remember this incredible portion of your life.
Hey Drew! Absolutely love your content, I just have one suggestion I wanted to submit. I like your previous videos where you narrated within the video too. Could we see a return to the old format soon?
Hi Drew, great video: got couple of more questions: How do you deal/upload such massive files onto social media/websites? By visiting coffee shops or do you have satellite internet ? Security - how would you handle sketchy situations? Possible break ins, etc? How reliable is the jeep nowadays? Do you service it more often than ever now that it has taken a beating on the road? (I’m a jeeper myself) Keep it up, great work!
Great questions! I just have to head to a coffee shops or libraries for uploading large files. If I am working on a big project that requires alot of time, I will do an airbnb for a night or two just so I have a place to work all day and can upload the video/files overnight. Just makes more sense and is a better use of my time than sitting in a coffee shop for 6 hours watching files upload. Just depends on the project. I haven't had anything too sketchy happen with break ins. I'm just always smart about where I park and all my gear is locked up pretty securely when I am away from the jeep. My jeep has definitely been put through the ringer the last 3 years. Left Florida at 75,000 and just hit 150,000 miles a few weeks ago, alot of that being offroad miles. It has held up great till this point (knock on wood haha). Just servicing it regularly and changing fluids and no major issues.
@@drewsimms 25,000 miles each year is nothing...... I use to put 20,000 miles just on motorcycle road trips each year with that said your miles have been nice although your wheels need more wear my friend 🤪
We all want to make our dreams come true, but few dare to take that step to make them come true. You are one of those who have been able to do it. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
I've recently been learning about overlanding and car camping and I'm excited to take my SUV to try a couple of weekends in it! Thanks for sharing a piece of your world to inspire people like me to get out and get into nature. All the best to you and your career
Thank you for your very honest answers about 24/7 being out on the road. Yes! With the great views and with beautiful music most of the videos that people watch with amazement think it’s a fantasy land where your living a total dream. But I am thinking how many times you stop and position your camera to get a 15 second or 20 second shot. Or stopping to fly your drone. And yes all the time cutting wood, or getting setup and to tear down, or stop to buy provisions, or find a place to cleanup, etc., etc. And if your out solo I would think you do experience loneliness as you have mentioned. So the bottom line is that what you do isn’t for just anybody. It takes a special type of person. Thank you for you living your dream and sharing it so the rest of us can lay in bed in our nice warm cozy surroundings and experience what you do vicariously!
he says hopefully it wasnt too painfull but I hope you know its delightful and we can barely pick up that vlogging or talking into a camera is something you're not the best at because its just as good as those mindblowing shots
Hey Drew! Your Jeep build has been an inspiration for my SUV. The quality in your videos is out of this world - especially the drone footages. I started living on the road three months ago and can say, as an aspiring content creator and introvert myself, it takes a lot of time and energy to make videos, let alone at the quality that you’ve made. I agree that the best time I’ve had outdoors is when I’m by myself and not worrying about filming. And speaking of solitude, for me, spending a lot of time alone, I actually have become more social and because I’m outside, I meet like-minded people like Mike from going farther! Anyway, thanks for taking the time to make this informative video! It’s reassuring to hear we share similar struggles of working in the passenger seat and sleeping with little to no headspace in the vehicle. Best of luck to you in your future! And maybe Ill see you on the road!
Thanks for the kind words Francis! Just checked out your channel, awesome build man and love to hear you've been on the road. Also really digging the red Forerunner! It can definitely be challenging to find the balance in filming/just enjoying the outdoors without the camera rolling. Hope to see you on the road man

Drew, thank you so much for this awesome video! I really appreciate that you were honest in stating that a lot of these TH-camrs and Instagrammers over glamorize being on the road. Christian also mentioned the same thing and I truly appreciate that you are both realistic and letting us know it's just like life, there will be ups and downs! I also really appreciate that you are not just putting out videos for the sake of it and you want to produce quality videos, especially with your cinematic editing! Stay safe and healthy!

as a jeep owner myself, i know they are needy of maintenance. What do you do about regular maintenance? Do you do them or part of them or have a shop do them? And what accessories for the jeep are your favorites that you consider a must have for on the road?
Hey Drew! I know this isn't your favorite video format so I'm extra grateful for you taking the time. lol Questions: How do you stay in such good shape? Or if I'm getting packages in I get them shipped to salt lake or amazon lockers, ups pick ups, friends houses, etc...
I think it would be really cool to see you do another build from the ground up. I think maybe a gladiator would give you more real-estate to be a bit more comfortable then your current jeep. Love the content!
Drew you are great on camera. Totally get that you hate it but you are very relatable and ppl appreciate your humility I think. Beautiful journey. Blessings as you go through your growing pains. Your world is expanding and is clear good things are coming for you. Keep going, you inspire us all who wish to be in wilderness full time as well.
Hi Drew you had mentioned the limitations of drone shots over national parks. Apparently it is something that is now available for content creators as yourself to do i believe as long as you’re a crew of less than 4. I’ve seen many other content creators reference this in the past few months. Keep up the great work :)
Bought a 4Runner a few months ago and turned it into a camper. Its a temporary build as Im still saving up for a proper 2000w battery and a large fridge. Ended up with this SUV as vans are too big and pretty obvious someone live in them, so I though a low top cargo van would be best, but I wanted a 4WD and those are very hard to find, so I ended up with an 09' Toyota 4Runner. Im going to have a little office space with external computer monitor & a webasto heater! Never seen one on a 4Runner, so this should be exciting. Im currently living in Alberta, crashing at someones till I get my heater since sleeping in -20C or lower is not fun

Hi Drew....Great to see you again on TH-cam and the Q and A you did was great. I'm a GREAT fan of your work and channel. Keep up the FANTASTIC work you do and looking forward to hearing about your big life changes that you hinted you're going to share. Take care and all the best from Steve in the UK
Dude, I love your channel. I've been following you for around 2 years now and I really dig how you've grown as a content creator and how your work gets better and better. I mean, that shot at 00:55, are you kidding me? I have some feedback I'd like to share, I really can't help myself in wanting to make your content even better. You should use larger fonts for your titles. I thought the same when I saw your Utah video a couple of months ago. I think it's a little hard to read given the ratio to the screen size, regardless if you see it on a phone, a laptop or a big screen. Other than that, I can only say as we say in spanish: "Envidia de la buena". Keep up the amazing work!
Nice one glad you highlighted the realistic time and feel of been mobile like that. Also the filming and editing time scales for stuff you do, I think it’s good too take time with stuff. No idea how people edit videos so quickly, sitting at a computer that long would make me crazy. I just do a few hours here and there but videos and photos do take ages not my job though just for fun. Nice one thanks go steady
Definitely agree with you man keep doing what you’re doing, your style of video is a model for me quality over quantity all the way, and more importantly to not turn what you’re doing into a job that will detour from the reason you started on it. Congratulations on your success keep it up and thank you for sharing!

I am glad you have some upcoming changes, and whatever you do, I'm sure you will succeed.
Thanks for the kind words. Really means alot

Wealth of knowledge and advice-as always. Excited to hear about your big news!
Thank you! Excited to share
You're such a great storyteller, it's going to be neat to see what you do next! This was really interesting Drew - Thank you for sharing!
absolutely love this video and hearing your voice
Hi Drew....Great to see you again on TH-cam and the Q and A you did was great. I'm a GREAT fan of your work and channel. Keep up the FANTASTIC work you do and looking forward to hearing about your big life changes that you hinted you're going to share. Take care and all the best from Steve in the UK
Thanks stephen! Really appreciate the continued support man.
Came across your channel, this video, quite recently. Truly enjoyed all the epic scenes 👍 very breathtaking! Aloha from HAWAII 🤙
You’re a inspiration mate! Keep going! Regards from Chile
Appreciate it man!
what a life! thanks for sharing mate
I've been debating whether to get a van for vacations, but I could just get a jeep and deck it out, especially with the roof tent
I'm obviously very bias haha so im gonna say jeep!
That intro, man. SENSATIONAL!!!!
Thanks Scott!
Hitting the like button after the intro as usual. Love your work, keep it up !
Love to hear it man!
broooo, those cliff shots were unreal! love your content man, shit is actually inspiring.
Definitely agree with you man keep doing what you’re doing, your style of video is a model for me quality over quantity all the way, and more importantly to not turn what you’re doing into a job that will detour from the reason you started on it. Congratulations on your success keep it up and thank you for sharing!
I freaking love your videos. Especially the camera work. My cat seems to enjoy your video as well! lol
A Q&A video that ends with a big Q about your life changes coming in the near future. Interesting.
Thank you Drew for all the work and passion that you put in... Great info and I am always super inpatient to watch your content... Blessings
Thanks for the continued support!
The bathroom question is the reason number one that folks don't go out! That should not be the reason to eliminate the blessing to see nature 🤩..
Intro is like a jeep commercial 😍
Amazing life
You are inspiring.
great content and insight I can see it very authentic
Thanks CJ!
