I don't have a problem with Big's gameplay, I just hate the logic behind it. I mean, why can't he just jump in the water and grab Froggy?

Heard horror stories about this part of Adventure. I finished it in maybe an hour. Catching Froggy was hella easy. The Know It All dude in Station Square, and Big's instructions at the story select explains how to do it.

@@dandan7111 No I agree. He is just the easy glutton who character who somehow gets caught up with the plot because of the situation at hand. The bad guys are after froggy, his friend. I would assume the same for anyone else if they had their best friend snagged away from them in the real world. But either way, eggman is after the strange properties that froggy posseses, namely the chaos tail and the chaos emerald so eggman can take over the world. And so Big the cat goes around trying to find his lost friend, bumping into many mainstream sonic characters and duos in the process.
I honestly find it kind of fascinating and interesting in a way. His levels are different, but they are not terrible once you learn how they work. At least the variety is there.
Strangley enough, I agree. Big's story was my favorite one, probably because our of al the characters, he is the one mostly easily relatable since he's only in it to rescue his friend.
I've beaten the game as every single character except Big the Cat! I can't beat his first stage even.

For anybody trying to finish Big's Story in 2019 and beyond, press the down arrow (for PC Keyboards) and hold down (for joysticks) when a fish (or Froggy) bites your lure!
It should allow you to catch them!

One thing I never understood about Big's story is why Sonic and Tails left the Tornado 2 on the Egg Carrier. Chaos had SIX of the Chaos Emeralds, leaving the biplane behind was extremely foolish!
I’m guessing tails assumed that sonic would come back on it, and sonic probably thought that chaos was dead after the fight with chaos 6, so then there would be no point of keeping the plane safe
Well big took the Tornado 2, so I guess it is safe?
How are you supposed to take off without landing gear?
Actually, why did they.. I don't know.. LEAVE THE EMERALD IN THE PLANE, WHILE CHAOS WAS A MERE FEW FEET FROM THE PLANE DURING THE BOSS BATTLE?!

I remember as a kid being stuck on this level for ages
I remember flying through Big's story like a rocket. It was kinda fun to me, actually.
"Your pet/friend grows a tail? Okay."
"Got an unreasonable hyper-realistic flashback to the ancient times and some girl is talking all philosophically to you? Okay."
"Oh, a giant sinister flying battleship that's about to fall apart? Imma go fish on it."
"Smacked a huge gooey monster that devoured your frog companion with a fishing rod multiple times causing it to flee. Sonic tells you to get outta here. Okay."
"Hijacking a plane that is too small for you to sit in and still managing to pilot it somehow."

I remember being sad because I was stuck in the Twinkle Park tunnel for a long ass time until I looked at the tutorial and it said to press down and A or some combination to catch Froggy. After that I breezed through the game
I like big as a character and while I don't think his gameplay is bad I just think it feels a bit out of place in a sonic game.
It seems like they just thoughtlessly have him a gameplay mechanic but didn’t actually think about how enjoyable it would be for the fans
@@stevenmcburney8167 yeah it's probably very likely Sega wanted to use Adventure to show off the potential of the Dreamcast. Hence Gamma's shooting and Big's fishing feeling a little out of place.
@@stevenmcburney8167 I honestly feel like this is the most sound comment I have seen on these missions in sonic adventures. I mean, amy, tails, and sonic all pretty much have the same missions. Amy there is a robot chasing you.
If there is one thing I can give credit to, at least it has some variety. You aren't doing the same thing on every character. With big the cat, you have to put your legend of zelda shoes and sega bass fishing shoes on in order for it to work. Come to think of it, that would be cool having different fishing holes to fish in a zelda game, instead of just one.
Either way, it was kind of nice to just sit around and find froggy for a while. Take a break from running around. In knuckles you are doing the sonic adventure 2 thing of looking for emerals. I am not personally a fan of these levels either or the big the cat levels. The worst is in sonic adventure 2 where you can't search for emeralds out of order. That is annoying. But they do work if I am being honest. And then you have E102 gamma, very similar to the robot missions in sonic adventure 2.
When Froggy bites on the lure you're suppose to push the control stick down to hook him.
I would have put this game in my top 20 had it not been for Big the Cat
That final cutscene is the greatest and happiest moment in gaming history. Love that song too
So many people hate Big's gameplay, but I find it pretty relaxing.

Replayed SA after so many years and got to Bigs story, man, I must’ve had a lot of patience as a kid.
Big’s theme is awesome
A lot of people are complaining that the gameplay in Bigs story sucks. I thought that too, but that was mainly because I didn’t know how to play it (The game does a crappy job of teaching it to the player, imo). Once you learn how, it’s actually pretty fun. That’s just my opinion though, I hope I’m not alone.

I'm 99% sure when they were making fishing mini game they were watching documentaries about psychopaths in attempts to become one,at this part I abbandoned the game,because it's impossible to catch that frog
Why does big keep losing froggy after catching him?
"Sonic Adventure" is a good game, but some of the gameplay variety didn't stick the landing, and Big's fishing mode is a primary example of such.
Conceptually, a campaign of methodical fishing in a momentum-driven action game is out of place. But if the story and gameplay were there, the change of pace would be easy to warm up to. Having completed Big's campaign twice (getting all the emblems from doing B and A missions), the clunky gameplay and perfunctory storytelling make it more tedious and frustrating than engaging.

My friend ended up stuck on the Big level because she went inside the Twinkle park before getting the powerup. Is it possible to get Froggy without it?
Wait, you were supposed to get a powerup before twinkle park?
Cuz I did it WITHOUT the powerup. Honestly, just press down on the analog stick when froggy is on you, he's only 500 G anyway.
Big's upgrades are generally optional unless you're going for side missions.
The fishing was fun. Fuck the haters
