I believe in training both hands, sometimes you don’t get to choose which hand you want to throw to strike.

If I could elbow somebody all day (distance-wise speaking), I'd probably do that... That said, there's a time and a place for every technique, though😏
That dropped/slanted punch seems pretty cool, btw. What's it called in Indonesian?

Just started this channel a couple months ago. Keeping this channel focus on mobility and traditional martial arts focused. My main traditional arts background are Taekwondo, Kali and Silat. Love the mobility training these arts offer and I add some qigong practices too.

Being a drummer, I am used to utilising both feet and hands simultaneously, so training only one side seems literally like I am only doing half a job. Plus, attempting to gain stopping power in both left and right positioning is highly beneficial.👍💪😁

Been learning from few silat schools, for real fights, not for sports.
It's highly effective in very close distance. That's why it mostly uses elbows and knees. For medium distance, it uses forearms and cruss.
Because fingers are actually weak and can easily get injured.
Fingers will be used to attack eyeballs, squeeze balls, rip out throat, pull off hair, break opponent's fingers.
The weakness is, wrestling, grappling and ground game are minimum to none.
But when you master the technique very well, you still can use it in an extremely close range, like in grappling or even on ground. I.e you can break the opponent's fingers when he tries to choke you (done this). Or attack his eyeballs.
Of course it's not easy. Moreover when your opponent is very good on the ground game
    .

I was introduced to Silat about 7 years ago, as an augmentation to my lifetime in other arts/training (started at like 4 yrs old, almost 70 now). I appreciate your videos and insights. Thank you.

Thanks for the share ….. just started witnessing the info your sharing . I appreciate the direct , effective and respective presentation of your wisdom . I’ve learned traditional king fu and some of it seems overwhelming with mystical secrets and overly elaborate skills taking 10-20 years to learn ( …. Or so they say …..😉) I’d say truly martial arts is healing/protective and should be useful quickly and long term of course your skills improve and deeper wisdom emerge ….. yet now a days with gangs , ex military and or disrespectful people overflowing through our world a good solid and practical martial arts with good values is what life demands to preserve a good and valued way of life …..
Appreciate and respect to you and your team …..
Looking forwards to learning more ……
Thanks again and take care ….. ✝️

Vertical punches are delivered with the bottom three knuckles, not the top two. Striking with the top two knuckles with vertical fist puts your wrist out of alignment.

You're very correct with training both leads. I'm right handed and would train southpaw double so it could becomen second nature. My coach was stupid to think all on the strong side and i think this is why i no longer train with him. I'm on a martial jouney and not a boxer's journey because for one, I'm now to damn old to ever have a pro fight and i was never interested in sport fighting to begin with but to be prepared for the ultimate villain on the streets because there are tough people on the streets regardless of what people say about people not knowing crap because they're not trained but in the city i lived and the violence around it, people were trained to be violent and what i mean by that is they didn't care if someone was a muay thai kickboxer or boxer or whatever because they would pick a brick up and hit a person in the face and then atrack with a bat or club or the guys from Mexico who would take their snake skinned boots and use it like a hammer or their belt buckle and swing it like Zorro and they knew boxing very well and also mixed in soccer...yes, i said soccer. I miss when i was younger getting into all of this crap because it was an ultimate experience in really getting down and dirty and fighting to not get your lights knocked out which never happened thank God! 😆

Ambidextrous all the way. I had to have reconstruction surgery on both knees as a teenager (Right at 14 left at 17). Injury forced me to become ambidextrous. It’s better to be ready to lose a side and not need it, than to lose your mastered side and be at a severe disadvantage.

  • @user-ef2ix7nt3e

I do some on both sides. But emphasize my left since I'm a southpaw

  • @RealBrianDeclan
    @RealBrianDeclan 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have a mixed opinion of training both sides. When starting to train it is very important to train left and right, but once you have some experience and start to develop a style that works for you, this can change.
Personally it took me a few years of training to recognize that I have knock-out power in my right hand. I don't in my left. This changed my training because I then had an advantage that I wanted to focus on developing. I've continued to drill to maximize the use of my right hand. To sum it up, I'm not necessarily training my left side less, it just that I want my left hand to set me up and my right to deliver the pain.

Better to train both sides, the fight could start with you hurting your dominant arm or it could be restrained somehow or you could have two weapons. And the liver is on the right. Ryan -shodan 25 years exp karate / mma / jujitsu / serada escrima
That’s my opinion but in reality the way I was taught serada/knife and disarms were all very one sided. It was just my laziness cause i have the skill to train the mirror image of all the moves I just never did it. I only practiced the off and moves for when I had two weapons so I could be twice as good if I had done that.

Absolutely train on both sides. Use the dominant side to skill-train the non-dominant side, and use the non-dominant side to strength-train the dominant side. That way, you come close to equalizing skill and strength on both sides over time. The advantage of bilateral training is that you cannot predict when you might be in a situation where you are not able to control which side you present in an attack.

Hey, I understand the importance of self-defense, but let's focus on promoting discipline, respect, and non-violence rather than emphasizing aggressive actions. Stay safe and peaceful everyone!

I agree but sometimes you have to have fun with what the martial arts can do and remember this is TH-cam and not to take everything so seriously. Have fun. That’s the most important. 👍🏼 peace ✌️

The elbow strike is nice but if an opponent side steps you expose the backside of your arm chicken wing to a potential strike or hold.

training both sides 50/50 only makes sense to me if you actually switch stance a lot, if you use one side 75% of the time it's you should probably spend more time training that side
