Pencak Silat techniques is fast and powerful, therefore deadly. Initially this is traditional war art practice only by war warrior, soldier or royal family. After Indonesian independence once a war tradition with deadly techniques have the ambition to compete publicly in sport tournament. Sukarno as Indonesian 1st President at that time realize like other martial art from Japan, Pencak Silat must spread to the globe as a culture diplomacy for Indonesia.
That were all the rules came into play. Once a deadly techniques used for defending the country against aggressor had to be adjusted as a sport and rules have to be introduced to minimize the potential injuries for the athletes.
Multiple trial and exhibition have been done during 50s - 60s period, its not without casualties, there were some warriors passed away during the exhibition or trial competition. Rules have been perfected ever since, with 1 objective, prevent fatal injury.
Still nowadays, broken bones, passed out and broken teeth, are not uncommon during Pencak Silat competition.
If you come to Indonesian and stay a bit longer there, there are still some Pencak Silat school that intentionally dont compete on sport event. Why, because their techniques and teaching still not adjusted to the sport rules. Therefore either they will hurt their opponent badly, or they will loose in the competition because they cant use most of their techniques without violate the regulation.
In Indonesia as the origin of Pencak Silat if you traveled to east from the west or vice versa, you will notice different region and province will have different styles (Jurus), different techniques, fighting stance, weaponry, etc. Unlike in Malaysia and Singapore that you may find similar style and technique everywhere.
I can tell you, northern sumatera region style is similar with Malaysian style of Pencak Silat, the ethnic group is basically the same, its Malay ethnic group.
You go to southern part of Sumatera in West Sumatera region, already different style.
You go further to Jakarta, the capital city, you will find style that heavily influenced by KungFu especially on hands techniques, with less kicking techniques.
You go further to Central Java, East Java, you will start finding higher fighting stance position with more kicking techniques, heavily influenced by techniques from Majapahit Kingdom era.
In West Java you will find more balance between hands and kicking techniques, between Jakarta Betawi Style of Pencak Silat and Central-East Java style.
Ideal Pencak Silat journey if you really want to understand and feel the tradition is at least @3 months in :
    - Minangkabau style (West Sumatera).
    - Malay style (Riau province).
    - Betawi style (Jakarta)
    - West Java style (i see in your video you have met Kang Cecep Rahman, a warrior/pendekar from Panglipur style, so consider its already represented by him)
    - Central - East Java style.
    - Bali style.
Those are at least major Pencak Silat styles in Indonesia which has different training & teaching method, as well as different techniques.

Human invent many "dances". And martial art is a dance intended to cause damage in combat.
As knife can be used as non nefarious usage, it can also be used to cause damage. And there are specially designed knife for combat.
Actually I prefer Master Cecep's philosophy more, as he didn't contradict what martial art are intended for. The fatal move can be bad to us and our opponent so be mindful before take the next move.

i'm used to learn silat but but my base are from 'zahir 9' style . the longer u learn silat, the more u need to learn control as silat actually training your subconscious reflect to incoming attack. so u need to learn what is defined as attack or u would be in auto mode and attacking even the harmless prank. So that's why the latter stage focusing more on meditation and mental conditioning. and its taking toooooo long to master😥 these are the main school in my country malaysia. Gayong( Comprehensive Style. I'm under this branch line sub, there are many linage in this style),Cekak (Grappling Style. mostly focusing on defense and counter) Lincah(Speed style) Sendeng(Tilt style) Kunci (locking style) Gerak Tepat( Accuracy Style. mostly one shot people in vital part style) Kuntau Tekpi( Hard style. main weapon is Tekpi) Serimau Hitam( literal meaning is black tiger style but actually its the combination of 5 art that is Silat Wali Suci, Silat Jawa, Silat Cekak, Silat Sambarani and Silat Gayong)

Pencak silat is a martial art native to Indonesia. From the past, pencak silat has been taught to defend the warriors of the kingdoms in the archipelago. The martial arts taught are varied, both bare-handed and armed. the techniques in pencak silat were initially lethal because the science used was to kill the enemy. There are many aspects of knowledge in pencak silat. there's even magic, called kanuragan.

"SILAT" if studied more deeply from various sources of silat masters, is taken from the word "Silaturahhim" / "Silaturahmi", which is a group that gathers from various corners to become an association of friendship and even brotherhood who learn about the science of 'Self-Defense' for the sake of war (in colonial period) precisely in Indonesia, Southeast Asia. And in the end Silat continued to be known and studied by many people, became hereditary and continues to grow until now

Silat was originally invent to fight during early colonial invasion on Indonesia in early 6 centuries, it's meant to kill, which is why lots of it's moves are deadly n could cause fatal injuries if not careful.

Based on myth traditional Filipino silat is more oriented to war, because many have root to Majapahit elite force that do expedition and loss contact after sail from celebes (menado). Kali is also known as sudang Majapahit in Indonesia, that likely also root of some silat school in Central, East Java and bali.

Im pretty sure that demonstrates silat is just only basic physical silat. As i can say its just a tip of iceberg. An ancient silat of Indonesia is more about black magic and poisoners weapons such as kerambit, keris and spear.
Silat can be divided into 3, dancing silat, self defence silat and assassin silat.
