The bloom degasses (CO2) the coffee. A thirty second bloom is always good. CO2 blocks the taste of the coffee. With the paper filter its always good to rinse the paper filter with hot water after you put it in the filter basket but before you add the coffee. It will also get rid of some of the paper taste.

Thanks for Sharing. I forgot what that was called (Bloom) I knew it was important, Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I enjoy it when I learn something today and your post was a good lesson. I need to try the filter trick also. This explains why some coffee makers brew for a bit and then stop right after they first start brewing. Thanks I will incorporate this into my videos THANK YOU!!!!

Creasing the seam of the paper filter before adding the coffee will help stop it folding in on itself

Anything can be done to the steaming issue? I hesitate to put it under the cabinet as it can damage the cabinet.
