    This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

    originally I was just looking for a review that proved to my mother it has a carafe, because we already bought the machine, we just had yet to open it, and she wanted to make sure it could make a "pot" before she did.
    but I actually found this quite interesting I love coffee quite a lot, but never really knew how to get information on it. this channel seems a fit for me. you have a new subscriber.

    great review! I've been look looking for a combination espresso and drip maker for a Christmas present for my husband without having to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars so I was really interested in how this particular product would review. I'm impressed with everything that this machine does and definitely going to purchase this for a Christmas gift. Thank you for your review!

    Thanks +Coffee Detective! I think I'll consider this. We used to use a regular auto drip pot but it was too big for the two of us so I bought a small one that makes only two cups. On the rare occasion we need to make more than two cups, we have to just run it twice (kind of a pain). But I also enjoy using my Bialetti from time to time so with this, we can make separate single cups, larger pot if we have guests, and my occasional cappuccino. Also in summer I think I would enjoy the cold coffee drink. Good job!
    BTW - I have used a Bonjour frother for years. I always pumped the cold milk first, remove the pump then microwave for exactly 30 seconds at which point it foams up right to the top.

    Nice review. I would like to see a teardown of the Ninja to see if it really in fact has a sensor to tell you when to clean, or if it has as I suspect no sensor, but cleaning is based on amount of "cups or carafes" brewed. I use RO water with virtually no TDS in the water and the cleaning light will still come on.

    Thanks so much for the review! Great detail. I wasn't a coffee drinker until a year ago, and still don't think I REALLY like coffee since all I really like is the Carmel Macchiato from Starbucks. Since that gets really expensive, I am attempting to create a cheap substitue at home.... or go broke! So, given that I never need to make a caraffe (sp?) of coffee and would ONLY use the expresso-style feature and the milk frother, it seems silly to buy this. Do you have suggestions for me? I haven't shopped for expresso machines or milk frothers yet, but saw this at Sam's and it looked easy.

    • @zyelhsak147
      @zyelhsak147 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Shelby Henderson This is easier than an espresso machine, especially the milk frothing part. I only use espresso machines for my coffee I never use the milk frothing part on it because it's a pain to use and clean. I will be buying this and use only the espresso option, that's how impressed I am with this machine. I'm sure it would be a perfect investment for you.

    We've had ours for over a year. It's starting to get really wet under the pot each time. We just leave a paper towel there now.. I wish this thing would stop begging to be cleaned! I can scrub it, run vinegar through it on the clean setting. Then water through 5 times.. it still begs to be cleaned. If you ignore the "clean" on the msg bar, it stops making coffee.

    • @CoffeeDetective

      +Michael Anastasio Not espresso at all. More like a coffee concentrate. OK for making a latte-style drink, but I wouldn't drink it solo, as if it were espresso.

    Can you use coffee pods (not K-cups) in this machine? I want to try the hotel style single pods in a drip machine so I don' t have to measure the coffee in the morning when I'm in a hurry, but can still measure my loose coffee for a carafe on the weekend. I'm replacing a K-cup machine with this one. I like the neatness of the K-cup, but not a lot of options like described with this machine. Thanks.

    • @CoffeeDetective
      @CoffeeDetective  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      No. Remember... as I say in the video... this is ultimately a drip brewer that can be set to brew a rich brew that approximates espresso. So you use regular ground coffee, even with the espresso drink setting.

  • @argonautsuk
    @argonautsuk 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've bought the Ninja coffeebar, but what I've noticed this morning when I made my coffee is that it over felled the mug.
    I've selected the one cup selection, put the right amount of coffee, selected the classic brew, and when it start brewing.
    I left to have my breakfast and when I've turned I've realised that it hadn't stopped.
    My mug had been over full, into the point it dripping.
    I must admit I didn't use the mug it came with it, I've put my own mug. I don't know if that makes any difference to the product.

    • @sethlindner5185
      @sethlindner5185 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      argonautuk the cup it brews is 10 ounces. There is no way to change that setting and unfortunately most mugs aren't big enough to fit 10 ounces. Sorry you had to learn the hard way!

      +Shondi Muir No, it doesn't make real espresso, and you can't use a fine espresso grind coffee. Ultimately this is a drip brewer.

    • @jetsamperes5762
      @jetsamperes5762 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their suggestions for hotter coffee:
      1. Don't use a cup straight out of the cupboard - run it under hot water first so it doesn't steal heat from the coffee
      2. If you use milk warm it in the microwave first - cold milk steals heat from the coffee
      3. Use paper cups for the hottest coffee.

  • @jetsamperes5762
    @jetsamperes5762 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another tip: If you use the single cup size on Specialty setting its stronger. If you use Travel size on Speciality its not as strong. The specialty setting makes a concentrated brew - on this setting the Travel size will not brew 14 ounces so don't worry about that.

  • @scherdaddy65
    @scherdaddy65 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the video. I think Ninja has done a good job with this coffee maker but coming from a household that does a cup a day of regular coffee I see one thing missing that would make me switch coffee makers. If they could incorporate the coffee grinds in a similar way they did the water dispenser then I think that would be ideal. In other words if I could fill up a grind reservoir that would dispense grinds based on my coffee size and strength where i only had to fill new grinds and new water when the reservoirs were empty I think would be more ideal.

    • @brownj0002
      @brownj0002 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a coffee machine like that. The grinder broke after a couple months. Also, it had to be brushed clean so the chute did not clog. It was almost not worth the extra effort so I didn't mind when it stopped working. I now have a $50 grinder and a glass jar with rubber seal. grind a little every 2-3 days, etc. I find this convenient and the burr-style grinder (not lawn-mower blade) really does make for finer grounds and noticeably better tasting coffee.

  • @Gigaheart
    @Gigaheart 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really want to know more about how much coffee, what kind was used, what level of grind it was used in, what grinder it was used in.
    All these factors affect coffee.
    Not going to do me a bit of good to rush out and buy this, if it still requires some level of grind I'm not capable of getting with my Baratza Encore.
    Which was the whole reason I stopped doing my own coffee to begin with.
    I like coffee but I'm terrible at it myself.

    • @concernedcitizen4031
      @concernedcitizen4031 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. Nice review. Thanks. Are you able to get a full carafe of coffee in regular or rich mode. I am interested in this coffee maker but a lot of the reviews I have seen; people seem to have trouble getting the maker to fill a full carafe. I just wondered if this is user error or a common problem? This is a must for me as I need to fill my thermos for work.
    Thanks

    • @CoffeeDetective
      @CoffeeDetective  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +4wolverines Hasn't been a problem for me. You need to be sure you're adding enough water to the reservoir. Enough water for the carafe of coffee, plus a little extra for what remains in the wet coffee grounds etc.

    • @CoffeeDetective

    I bought this coffee maker a month ago and tho it works pretty good, the coffee cup sizes are way off. When I brew a half a carafe, I get a quarter carafe amount. When I brew a full carafe, I get a half full carafe. And when I brew a travel mug size, I get a regular cup size. When I brew a cup size, I get a half a cup. So, when I brew, I have to brew twice to get the correct amount. Very annoying. I wish I knew if I could reset the water levels for the maker.

    • @AmmyVx
      @AmmyVx 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are you using the rich brew setting??? Classic brew is supposed to fill it and the rich brew is supposed to be less... That's what I read last night when I was setting it up anyway. Plan on making my first cup in a few minutes haha

    • @Bigolg1975
      @Bigolg1975 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may need to find a coarser grind, when I used finely ground coffee you will end up with less coffee as the finer grind will soak up all of the water like a sponge. Also use the classic brew selection if you want a full carafe. In the manual it shows brewing a cup on classic will get you approximately 9.5 oz., using the Rich brew you will get 8.8 oz., over ice 3.7 oz., and specialty 3.1 oz. So it only makes sense that if you are using anything other than classic you will get less coffee.

    Excellent review! Thank you! Seems to be fairly simple to use and user friendly. Can you tell us where the Ninja was manufactured, and a little bit more about the quality of the machine itself, i.e. is the silver part made of steel, metal, plastic, and the carafe itself plastic/glass, etc.? Much appreciated. Thanks again!

    • @CoffeeDetective
      @CoffeeDetective  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +mygalmo Made in China, as you might expect. But pretty solid. The structure of the machine is black plastic. The fold-down cup platform is plastic. The silver you see on the filter cone holder and under the water reservoir is brushed steel. The carafe is a nice and heavy glass. So...mostly plastic, but heavy grade. It doesn't have that flimsy feel of low-end brewers.

    • @mygalmo
      @mygalmo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Coffee Detective
      Wonderful! Exactly what I was hoping to hear, in terms of the 'heavy grade', brushed steel reservoir, and glass carafe. I had a Braun espresso/cappuccino machine (made in Italy) that lasted me 23 years. The quality of the machine itself was flawless. I have purchased several others, but to my dismay, returned each due to the poor and cheap materials used; which seems to be the norm now days. We get what we pay for though. I am certain there are some great high-end machines, but they're beyond my budget! Have you tried the Aeropress? When my Braun broke, I gave the Aeropress a shot, and was pleasantly surprised that it could produce the perfect shot of espresso - even with the crema. Took it a notch higher and made cappuccinos using my French press to warm some milk; poured it into the French press; gave it a few pumps, and produced the perfect froth. I felt like a genius. Ha! Anyway, thanks again for your prompt and detailed response.

    I've been debating buying this coffee maker ever since I first saw the commercial. I absolutely love coffee and espresso drinks, I drink about 6 cups a day and also frequent my local coffee shop for latte's and frappe's whenever I am nearby (expensive-YES!). I need a new maker for the new year! (My KitchenAide machine is old and annoying lol). **I can't stand the way the coffee from the POD coffee machines taste yet I often want just one cup in the afternoon. **I love the idea of taking the water reservoir off to fill it as I spill every single time I try to fill my present machine. **In the summer I adore iced coffee but it always gets week with the ice. I've even tried making coffee ice cubes but I usually make a coffee mess in my freezer. :( . My question Coffee Detective is about the "espresso-style" drinks. For cold Frappe's I assume I have to use a blender and purchase the flavorings, syrups, etc. and the same with hot flavored latte's (as far as purchasing flavors etc.) THANKS FOR THE REVIEW. I really want to buy it but ugh..just not sure!!

      +Patty Harrison Yeah, sorry, but, um, you kinda need to limit your questions to five words or less. Do you mind rephrasing that?

    • @XianaEvilese
      @XianaEvilese 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Patty Harrison yeah, but you could likely buy one flavor at a time for around the price of one drink of that flavor. I'm bummed that I got gifted a Keurig just before I was going to buy this one.

    Great Review, I have been drinking coffee for about 20 Years now and I have made a Caramel macchiato and a Cappuccino , To be honest, both drinks came out pretty Amazing. So star bucks and my Local Italian Coffee Shop will be getting a time out :o)
    Can't wait to try the ice coffee recipe and other Flavored Coffee's as well. So far so good with the Ninja Coffee Bar 👍

      +JO. O Just tested. Keep in kind I live at only about 200 meters above sea level - it makes a difference if you are a lot higher in elevation. Also, I used a simple kitchen thermometer. Anyway, the water hits the cup at a tad over 180 degrees. A little cooler thanI would like, but it seems to make a good a cup of coffee.
