Totally cool video, Davey. I’m a brook trout guy from the U.S, and enjoyed watching you cast that spey rod. Very happy that I found your channel. Love your tying and fishing insights and perspectives.
Your fish along videos are a big treat, especially since you use a fly that you have recently tied and shared with us. Your commentary is filled with fishing tips, as well as info regarding the fishing environment. Lots of beneficial info; thank you Davie.
Davie that is such a beautiful big of water! I liked that stretch where the river narrowed to go down that chute, such a beautiful place!! I like the sound of the water, it always makes me sleepy! LOL. I fished a small stream in Morayshire (I think it was called) back in 1985. It was a stream so much like that. The wind was blowing it up sooooo windy! There was a Salmon working the shallows on a corner full of grass and the wind was just nets. I can't remember the name of it. The young Family that owned the farm, so they gave us a licence to fish. I used fly gear I had brought and hardware I bought. No luck at all. I managed to get the line out three of four times but alas I had no luck. I went shopping back in Grantown on Spay for flies and anything else, but the weather was as bad as could be. Still what a beautiful trip!
Thanks Davie, I was on my small loch yesterday and the wind changed direction constantly It put the fush down but still enjoyed bei g iut. The Doon looked lovely. Stay well, Big Davie
Really liked this video Davie, I’ve never fished for salmon before myself but I enjoyed every cast that you made down this cracking looking river. Beat’s chucking out a Blob on the end of a Di7 all day by the look of it. Thanks
Great to see you out and about , our river further north is up and down like a yo-yo at the moment but not enough water to bring them up so until then I’ll enjoy your vids as usual, regards John
i know surrounded by beauty and nature theres so many beautiful sights and sounds to see and hear but the noise of the line shooting has to be one of greatest ever, when im using bombarda floats for sea-trout ive found a "spey" cast is the best to unfurl the fly on the leader, great to see the doon aswell home of the "doon fry" a sea-trout killer
Hi Davie, really enjoyed watching this video. As previously mentioned I am heading to Scotland in October for my first ever salmon trip. I fish mainly large reservoirs and still waters for trout and do not have much experience on rivers. I am slowly getting to grips with casting a two handed rod and have booked a casting session in Yorkshire. It was good to see how you cast and moved the fly through the water especially how you fished the neck by hanging the fly and paying out line. I would have probably left that section out. This video has really helped.
Hi Colm Mullally, A huge thanks you for the thanks donation, I do monthly draw so here is a number for Septembers draw No.222..The draw takes place on the last day of the month which this month is Friday 30th at 7 pm UK time..Thank you again and good luck.. All the very best Davie
Afternoon Davie, just watched the latest video. I walked every step with you waiting for that tell tale sign [ a line suddenly stopping or the tug of an interested passer by] and although I have never fished for anything other than trout or grayling with a fly, I was captivated by your tuition. I wish you had had your trout rod, better still I had seen those small BWO's given a go. Perhaps another time? Always enjoy sharing your time out on the water with you. many thanks
cool little adventures, its so fun spending time in nature and interacting with it just instinctivly relaxing and natural for human beings to hunt and explore.
A bold move - the dropper. I recall taking a mixed double while trout fishing on the lower Doon - a grilse on the bead and a good trout seconds later on the dropper. That was...interesting. Yes, I did get them both...eventually. Not sure I'd want to make a habit of it though 😁
Nice day on the river , a little windy but that’s to be expected. The fish just didn’t want to play today , oh well that’s why there’s tomorrow :-) thanks for the video
Good to see you out wetting a line Davie thanks for your videos you like fishing the dropper I was reading about man who has lot of success with the dropper but what different about it he fishes the same fly on both and like he said lot things in nature swim together in water plus like one chasing the other I was always use to fishing different flies but he had lot of success useing the same fly on both something to give wee try you never know tight lines.
The reason there is so many leaves is due to the dry weather. Lots of trees are struggling and dropping leaves. Over here on the east I have noticed a lot of trees almost in full autumn colours. Hopefully the weather has turned a bit now and we should be getting more rain so we can get back to complaining about that again haha. Great video Davie I don’t get to go salmon fishing as much as I would like and I usually go to the tweed. I always tie my flies with your instructions mind you 👍🏻 tight lines
Hi I Believe, When you are fishing for salmon it's best to cast across and down just like I was doing allowing the flies to swing round using the current or you can pull to speed this up as at times this can work really well..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
davie usualy books his catches over the phone so he can turn up way shades on and tel a story until catch time .it like these legends of trout fishing want recognised for being great at this! davie being a champ
Hi Davie you have got me interested in a Cadence fly rod I’m looking at a single hand for Stillwaters can you tell me anything about these rods please?
Hi Trevor Luft, I'm sorry I can't as I've not got one though I will looking at getting one as I am very happy with the ones I have..If you can contact them or if you have a Facebook page then you could contact and PM Stevie Munn direct as he would be very happy to help you choose the right one.. All the very best Davie
Great video as usual Davie, the Doon is a lovely wee river. Good casting with the Cadence rod, just wondered what line you were using? We had a rise in water on the Welsh Dee a couple of weeks ago, nothing doing with the Salmon. Luckily I did take my Trout rod and had some nice Grayling on dry fly. Cheers
Hi Scott, I have attached a link to the line I was using below for you to see. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I will certainly be taking my trout rod the next time, I normally do but I wanted to fish for the salmon.. Great Line..gaelforceflyfishing.com/ESSS78-2?search=7%2F8%20line&description=true All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail Thanks Davie, gaelforce lines are reputedly very good, although I've never tried one. I must admit the beat I fish on the Welsh Dee l am able to drive onto the water, so the cars loaded with tackle! But I know what you mean when you're in the Salmon groove we persevere. Thanks for all your Videos they're really appreciated. Cheers Scott

It must be tough for Davie to catch any fish, cuz I’m sure the fish know his voice and will tell all their friends DONT EAT ANYTHING! DAVIE IS HERE!!
A very nice Film .... thank you ...🙏🏻
greetings from a Switzerland fly fisher ....🤘🏻🤘🏻🏴☠️🏴☠️👍🏻👍🏻🖤🖤
Thanks for taking us along on the trip. If nothing else, it was a beautiful scenery, and a good day for casting practice in a stiff wind.
Great video, you can't beat the sound of flowing water and the rustling of the trees, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for taking us with you. Don’t think I’ll ever understand “beats”. Glad you have water. Here we have too much which is rare for August.
Thanks Davie, I was on my small loch yesterday and the wind changed direction constantly

Thank you Davie. Lovely time spending with you. But I admit I was anxious.
Great river had 42 fish for the week a few years back . Nice pool for the shrimp.

Lovely stuff Davie , enjoyed it as much as you did . Many thanks mate .
Very enjoyable watch, thanks for sharing Davie.
Thank you for showing us a small piece of the river.
Enjoyed the watch. Never salmon fished but I like to give it a go down here on the Welsh Dee some day. Thanks.
Nice vid Bud. Fished the Doon a few times up at Skeldon estate, a gorgeous bit of water.
Such a beautiful video Davie....I could have been there myself. 👍

That was a pure delight! Suffering from a bad drought on this side of the pond.Praying for a good soaking rain to wake bth fish and fishermen up.
most of the uk is in drought conditions mate a lot of counties have hose bans on already, this years lack of rain seems to be global
@@whitetroutchannel So true,tight lines,bro.!

He’s using wet flies and their best cast across the stream and you let the current take them down

And at least you got out... =]

do you use double tapered line or weight forward? and what wt is that 4 5?
Nice lively water Davie
Sods law. Bring the trout rod and there would be a run of salmon. The only winners are the fish 🤣
🎣👏👏👏
i would recommend to speed up the fly not to mend it on this water level. For salmon sea trout speed is the key between catching and not catching ☺️
Better luck next time if you don't have a cast you can't catch so better than being in the house
