    Very nice indeed, I remember watching Davie Downie tying this pattern at a demonstration he was doing at the time . I believe as you say it is a favourite at the Lake .

    A fly I’ve not seen before. I fish a lot of Haystacks on Broken water Brook Trout streams. That with the rusty brown or fire orange thread should be fantastic. Thanks!!!

    Nice looking bug Dave!!
    The summer trico hatch has been pretty good this year in the northeastern part of the United States. I was wondering if it wouldn’t be too much trouble for you to do a fly tying demonstration on an emerging or an adult trico for us?
    As always, happy tying Dave.

      Hi Ian,
      I use Veniards clear varnish, I also use their thinners too which makes it last a very long time..I'm glad you liked the fly..

    I’ve never before seen excess deer hair removed from the hook solely by thread wrap pressure. Did you learn that from someone else or did you just notice it happening when tying this or a similar fly in bulk? It really surprised me.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi FlyTyer1948.
      I do this with many materials as you always get a nice clean and neat break neater than cutting it away so I gave it a go once with the deer hair and it worked really well, though the deer hair I used in the video was a bit stubborn as I thought it wasn't going to come away. Many of the methods I use do come from tying large amounts as it gave me the chance to experiment and try different ways to use the materials and tye the flies easier and faster without changing the durability of the fly and pattern..
      All the very best Davie

    What’s the reason for splitting the wing? Except for the split wing looks like the compara-dun developed by Al Caucci and Bob Nastasi back in the early 1970’s

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary,
      It is a compara-dun as you said, it's named after the double wing which does help it float really well..It's one of the top patterns on the Lake of Menteith that is one of Scotland's top venues for many anglers around the UK..
      All the very best Davie..

      Morning Nige's Basement Workshop,
      It is a scam, I have spent most of the morning deleting their messages and as well I have blocked and reported them for doing this, they did it through the night or I would have saw it quicker if I had been awake...Sorry about this but it happens from to time and if you ever see or feel there's something wrong please let me know..
