In my opinion, I think the reason for this is because the nature of speedrunning makes it one of the best forms of gaming out there; it’s both competition and cooperation, and the communities, while fiercely competitive, are also usually wholesome. That’s just my theory though
dude I found in spain people that loves speedrunning 16 bit fly sims and another community that loves perfect times on densha de go from the switch to the game boy, so yeah you find really interesting and passionate communities
Was never a die hard mario fan but had a DS when i was younger and i actually played this Mario probably 20+ times so very excited to watch this video as it will be very nostalgic for me
Awesome editing and writing! I'm not involved in any speedrunning community myself, but I can't get enough of these videos documenting world record histories.
I had a feeling this category had much more to it than what I already knew, great vid Connor. Also q warp is like the least menacing name for the most menacing trick in the run lol
i was wondering where i heard the name connor01 from LMAO, this was sick. i thought it was just the youtube algorithm giving me summoning salt related content
Man that’s so crazy. I spent a week trying to get into speedrunning this game back in 2016.59 see this progress now makes me want to get back into it and learn all the glitches and tight movement. Great video!
Oh shit son! I just discovered your channel last night with the NSMBWii WR progression and I was like, man, I want to see more of this. And all I see on the channel is 2 videos both uploaded a year ago and I was a little sad. NEXT DAY you upload another WR progression video. That’s dope. Glad I subbed.
This game was my first game I got for the DS. This game is my childhood. As I watch people speedrun on Twitch, I sometimes wonder, what game would I be speedrunning. It would probably be this game. Heck, I think I unintentionally speedran the game back in the 2010s as a kid, and maybe I might have had some leader board worthy times back in the day. Noone will ever know. Seeing all these hard tricks and optimised movements kind of discourages me from picking up the game now. But who knows, maybe I'll download an emulator and give the game a shot for old times sake.
I feel the exact same way. I’ve played this game so so many times throughout my childhood and adult life. If there was any game I would be good enough to speed run it would definitely be this game.
Yeah I used to play this game over and over again each time setting goals for myself like trying to to faster, collect all the coins, get all gold star coins. But my ds broke and I never managed to unlock two worlds bc it required something specific 😅
Hope you’re still making content! I don’t mind the wait but I always get worried you won’t come back. Seriously tho you make some of the highest quality content in the genre you do, keep it up man I really hope this channel explodes
Great video Connor, I have never played or watched anyone play this game but I was captivated the entire time. The pacing was great, your presentation was super informative, and I feel like I came away from this actually having learned something. I know you're busy with a lot of editing things, but I hope you keep on making your own content because this was really good! 👍
Oh my god how can this be? Yesterday I thought about this channel to be dead and wanted to unsubscribe, but I still wanted to wait and in the next day I see this. I´m really excited to see this video
aw man this video hasn't hit the algo yet and it makes no sense! it's a pure banger! best work you've done yet! thank you for your service in the video mines
This video showed up in my recommended, and WOW it was good. Great video man, keep up the good work, and i’m excited to see what you’re gonna cover next!!
I just so happened to get curious about speed runs on this game last week and it looks like you posted this video just in time for me to find it! Awesome video
I found your channel first but noticed you've been editing a few videos for Atrioc too. Love your work on both channels. Can't wait to see what ideas you have next.
Really well done! It's been a while since I've seen the Super Mario Bros Wii WR history, and just like the NSMB Wii video, you did an amazing job on NSMB DS!
hey man i know these videos arent extremely popular but please keep them up because they are extremely entertaining. maybe you could do one on breath of the wild next?
Such a great video that explains the history extremely well! Looking forward to the future content you will provide, and already super impressed with what you've made so far!
I love this video. Currently I am focusing on Rayman 2 speedruns and never thought about speedruns on other games would make sense. So I am thankfull for widen my perception of speedruns. I hope that you also love rayman 2 speedrunning and would make a video about it. :DD
holy shit you're alive! another great video! looking forward to you're next one too! (would love one on Portal 2 the WR history for that game is fucking nuts, most recently it was discovered how to skip a cut scene but it makes you invincible its wild)
This was the game i got for my birthday along with the ds lite back when I had just came out. It's the first game I really explored from beginning to end. Just a week ago i bought a used ds with a copy to feel the nostalgia and man the game definitely holds up to this day.
@@flamingphoenix1425 lmaoooooo, I accidentally clicked the wrong comment that was asking for a vid on U, I’m personally a Wii speed runner (not a great one, but I’m learning) but I’ve been considering DS but am terrified of it due to the massive amount of RNG
I actually love this game and took up speed running it awhile ago and recently got back into it but that ending hit me hard as I learned fire route and never bothered to learn shell route. Could be super fun to learn a new way to play and I feel like if I better optimized my movement in game and got a decent recording software I could record some nice runs. Nothing near what the top runners today as they’re on a whole different level of incredible but that won’t change the fact that NSMB is awesome and probably my favorite game of all time. Anyways man love the video and can’t wait to see more content like this!!
I just watched MyLittleWalrus’s run before this, happy to see theirs in this video. Reading the comments from their 2016 record vid, they helped out AndreMH as well, so it’s cool to also see him!
30:02 that crash was timed so perfectly
30:04 the timing of him slamming something in the background as the in-game screen shakes is hilarious.
Feels like every game just has a huge speedrunning community in the background.

That was an awesome video, glad I could help out with it and also be a part of this game's amazing journey!
Hopefully, Connor01 sticks around longer. Personally, I don't want to have to wait a year for another video.
Quality over quantity
I’m sure these speedrun videos take a lot of research, so they probably take a few months to make.
