1:23 lmaoo I immediately guessed that Bismuth is from Québec from the way he said "Gros perdu" and I was right 😂 His twitter bio says he is in Montréal
I'm not gonna lie... I'm a huge Donkey Kong fan, so the any% TAS Speedrun Explained video is my most-watched Bismuth video. Seeing a new Bismuth Donkey Kong video makes me very happy. I'm hoping for more Bismuth Kong in the future.
This was by far the best introduction to the 101% speedrun by far. I still love RingRushes tas from 2020. And his incredible LOTAD 101%. RingRush is someone you can’t sleep on.
0.26s is 1\4 the time light travels in 1 second. about 47,000mi away. voyager 1 is 15,000,000,000 miles away. needless to say his analogy was completely accurate.
@misuvittupaa8068 that’s a fair point I haven’t even considered, didn’t mean for it to be an all encompassing comment, it’s just what I was feeling at the moment lol
32:06 You just solved a mystery of my childhood: why on Earth was this mini-game so hard whereas speedrunners clear it in a blink? I used to leave it for the end because it was hard, but it actually was hard only because I used to leave it for the end, i.e. after I get the sniper scope.
DK64 101% was my first ever speedrun lol. I remember seeing someone running it casually and making me realize that speedruns weren't all just sweaty frame perfect sub-1 hr runs, and DK64 was my favorite game of all time. Being such a niche community also meant that Connor and a lot of the other community members came into my stream and kept me company once I was already like 6 hours in lol. Only ever ended up running it 3 times (all like a year apart, so I never had much memorized and was just following Connor's old guide doc) and I think my best run was still over 10 hours lol. But that was what got me into running other games too (with much shorter runs), and I still hang around and tune in to the tournaments whenever I see them. Shoutout to the DK64 speedrunning community, but especially the 101% folks who are willing to sit through 6+ hours of a complete noob crawling through the run lol
Even though i already know everything that happened this script is so entertaining!! This has been my favorite category for a long time now and so many great runners (and great friends!) have worked on it with me over the last decade. Truly something I'm thankful for
Loved the video and your piano covers! You always have a great way of keeping it interesting and entertaining regardless of the level of knowledge and investment the viewer has going into it, and I had no clue about the pre-SDA stuff. Fun to see that my ancient time made it into the video too (as "PMIT" during the leaderboard shots)!
Oh, this is just a fun video. I kinda expected you to be a speedrunner at this point, but never cared to check which game(s) you competed in. With this wonderful reveal and cliffhanger. Now I'm just waiting with bated breath for Part 2. Also I just realised what "music by Bismuth" means. You absolute madman, well done!
Congrats on the leagues sponsor! I was just about to go play that just like I did last year. Thanks for the video (in advance haven't watched it in full yet) Bismuth, I love me some DK64! Finished it now, can't wait for part 2. Great video as expected!
Ahahaha, I saw your vid and went "oh, PERFECT! I'm dry on my black mask this vid will help" Ofc, you're sponsored by em. Well played Jagex, well played
aw hell yeah. i watched the dk 64 tas explained video for months to help me sleep. the sequel i didn't know i needed. now to just get tired, but awake enough to watch it the first time.
Really enjoyed this video. This video had me thinking about how cool a tas would be for this game that is a glitchathon instead of a speedrun. Getting to where you are getting cooler, is sometimes more important than saving time :)
I hope you'll report on the Wii U records regardless of your stance on the game in a continuation on this video (series). Especially Connor's dominance is something that deserves video coverage imo. But besides that, it'd make for a complete documentary up to the present day.
That's funny, I was just looking at your channel last night thinking it had been a while since your last video, lo and behold your uploaded like 12 hours later. ❤
When I saw the (relatively) recent discovery of a hidden coin mound in the tall grass I found it really funny because I found it exactly the same way when I was a teenager.
Just when I was sure I was out, they pull me right back in... Edit: Context, I was a 2dos viewer back in high school (probably around 2014-15 mostly?) And goddamn you just for the ending, I'd lost track of time and wanted to hear more so badly. It feels like the LOTAD was only a year ago, where did the time go
I wouldn't call the past attitude towards glitches a "fundamental misunderstanding". They knew what they were doing and that comes of as a little condescending. It's more like a difference of philosophy.
Any time TH-camrs make a video about *their* game (like you with DK64 or summoning salt with punch out) I always get scared that the video is your last one, like a going away celebration for yourself
Try Old School RuneScape's newest League, Raging Echoes: osrs.game/Bismuth
finally, a sponsorship that we can use!
Ok
I was legitimately considering getting back into osrs for the league and seeing the promotion has probably pushed me over the edge!
at least it's not shilling for loanshark spyware chromium or a compromised VPN
LFG!!
SummoningSalt (The salt in question being Bismuth Subsalicylate)
How enlightened! I wish I am as good at chem...
hey I made this joke once too, great minds
That pink stuff is tasty
I like this
Yummy pepto
It must be incredibly fun to say "it was me" during a speedrun explained youtube video
It was me, Barry!
It is I, Dio!
Mojo Jojo: "It was me... It was me... It was me... It was me..."
Spoilers bro
NOOOO WHY DID I READ THE COMMENTS 😭
26:45 i love that he just casually references his arrival to the category
I was about to comment that too
I like how you found the least flattering moments of every speedrun and aggressively highlighted them
I'll admit I had a lot of fun sneakily bullying cfox
Piano-only DK64 soundtrack goes absolutely crazy
And he makes it himself! Wildly talented guy.
25:57 I don't know why I didn't expect you to be a speedrunner in this category, but in hindsight it makes too much sense
Yea
Who knew the banana man played the banana game
Ah yes, Bismuth, the thinking man’s speedrun documentarian.
Lol
I don’t think ever and I’m not a man but I also like him
@@Numbabui think they meant "man" in terms of classy human, not gender specific
@@Joshy- i think they knew that and just thought it would be funny to say it anyway
@@NumbabuWell, the conditions given are sufficient, but not necessary.
35:45 Hey man if I'd gotten a Beaver Bother Barrel THAT clean I'd sound like a DK impersonation too.
No sound more questionable than DK
It was always fun to see how even the most innocent glitches led to speedrun usage.
1:23 lmaoo I immediately guessed that Bismuth is from Québec from the way he said "Gros perdu" and I was right 😂 His twitter bio says he is in Montréal
Gros perdu sounds like home to me
I had guessed it from his earlier videos. He has an accent that I was 90% sure waa from Quebec. It seems mostly gone now though
Props to you for the excellent piano arrangements holy shit

Perfect watch for 1am when i have a major test coming tomorrow
Perfect watch at 1 AM when I have a 12 hour shift coming up for Black Friday

53:20 there's a lot of power in that reveal alone.

WAKE UP A NEW BISMUTH VID DROPPED
The fact you didn't add babe to that got the like.
No bae 😢
the duality of man
To be continued? Really? How are you gonna blue ball us like that on thanksgiving of all days? I’ll see you on Christmas for part 2 I guess…
Because we don't know when thanksgiving is. There is some holiday almost everyday somewhere in the world
@misuvittupaa8068 that’s a fair point I haven’t even considered, didn’t mean for it to be an all encompassing comment, it’s just what I was feeling at the moment lol
@stockphotokoalabear all good
The piano in this one is really good man!
My partner still has a shirt that says "How do you beat Beaver Bother?" from hbomberguy's charity stream a handful of years back.
26:43 _"Some new runner by the name of Bismuth-"_
Oh, you.
This game is so old school that Diddy Kong was called Puff Daddy Kong.
Diddy Kong is his stage name. His real name is Brother Love Kong. Though I still call him Sean Kongbs.
14:09 "Free Diddy"
53:17 Oh so that's why your pfp is bananas
Dude the osrs sponsor surprised tf out of me I’m literally playing leagues right now

Outro honestly gave me a newfound appreciation for a song I have long since tuned out. Great video as always.
At least we still have you, Salt, and Karl Jobst to talk about speedruns. RIP Speed Docs.
Wait, what happened with them?
@@I0NE007 he died

Connor01 is currently making a new video btw
There’s also Abyssoft. He’s pretty entertaining and informative as well
I like the piano versions of the stage themes...Will you upload these too? 🎉
They will be going up on my Patreon tomorrow (unless something happens) and they will be on my channel Bismuth Music sometime in December.
It's so funny when he mentions one of the slower parts of some of the earlier runs is when the runner kept dying in the Donkey Kong arcade game
Its brilliant that you use your own music for these. Love your videos.
Znernicus is also one of the Portal 2 GOATS
Oh my gosh! That cliffhanger at the end with the piano! This is a peak speedrun documentary! Excited to see the next part!
your piano trills are amazing, i just wanted to tell you that 💛

Not what I expected to come out on Thanksgiving, but a welcome surprise
Spectacular as always, man. It's always a joy to hear your piano renditions of the game's tracks. Looking forward to part 2!
My favorite part of Bismuth videos is that all the music is self-made🎶
YOU NEED TO WARN US WHEN YOU DO THIS
I did though
Me: "oh a video I haven't seen yet, must be an older one"

OSHI-
Another 1 hour long DK64 video from Bismuth
*Instant Bookmarked*
I still love the piano covers of the music from the game, great video Bismuth!
Congrats on the leagues sponsor! I was just about to go play that just like I did last year. Thanks for the video (in advance haven't watched it in full yet) Bismuth, I love me some DK64!
Finished it now, can't wait for part 2. Great video as expected!

Your edit didn't help
Mom look bismuth is back and he got us a Video
I have to add, as a German, your pronunciation of Deutsch and Über are very clean. Good job
aw hell yeah. i watched the dk 64 tas explained video for months to help me sleep. the sequel i didn't know i needed.

Once again, I would love to see you cover the Banjo-Kazooie speedrun. There are a lot of wild clips and shenanigans in the WR progression.
"Im done, I dont care what the finish time is im done with this category:
Bismuth: "The next week, he got a..."
no way i just rewatched ur other dk64 video last night!

NEW BISMUTH MUSIC LETS GO
I remember being on gamefaqs when the Uberchallenge got made. Can't believe it got a mention here
I think I still have a printed copy of the challenge somewhere
@@garagedoor0pener if its of the OoT uberchallenge, then that print copy would be older than me
i’m sick rn and that first opening minute felt like a straight up fever dream
You and SummoningSalt are doing the best work. Thank you!
101% was my introduction to speedrunning, I am glad that the category exists and that so many people care about the game
the cheeky scroll past your own name on the leaderboard told me everything i needed about the ending i was in for.
Something about that " It was me!" That I found so funny for some reason maybe lack of sleep.
Oh my god. Amazing history video here! Can not wait to see part 2!!
Sees new Bismuth video:
Me: Oooh
Sees new Bismuth video is about a game that is famously super glitchy:

Banger video to watch on thanksgiving
Shoutout to all the Aussies who were trailblazers of early 2000s speedrunning, especially Karl Jobst @ 5:29 🤘
Lol of course it all starts with Alex Penev.
New Bismuth is great, but what's more is new Bismuth piano covers!
would be neat to see an osrs videos from Bismuth every now and then
didnt know we needed an hour documentary on dk64, but glad we have it
Hell yeah I often get myself back to your previous dk64 video and now I have more to look forward! Thank you!
Incredible job as always. Can't wait for part 2!
That's funny, I was just looking at your channel last night thinking it had been a while since your last video, lo and behold your uploaded like 12 hours later. ❤
Finally! Another dk64 video of yours to fall asleep to. Monkey smash is permanently in my brain from the last video.
After an ending like that, if there's an episode 2. I'd watch it immediately
"...some new speedrunner named Bismuth..." haha
I have been waiting for more DK64 videos! Can't wait to watch
Gros Perdu took me offguard lol
It startled me and I had to rewind asking myself "tabarnak c'était quoi ça?" lol
5 seconds in and I'm most excited for the DK piano covers, excellent work as always

I wouldn't call the past attitude towards glitches a "fundamental misunderstanding". They knew what they were doing and that comes of as a little condescending. It's more like a difference of philosophy.
I've run Banjo-Kazooie several times and Banjo-Tooie once, but DK64 is on another level.
