I’m so happy a found your videos, I’m a 71 years old female, having surgery two weeks from today and watching your journey really settle my nerves. Was so scared and now I’m waiting patiently and relax for that day. God bless you, will keep learning day by day!!
@Estrella Moulin I'm glad the videos have been helpful! Surgery and the entire recovery process is definitely long and can make people, including me, apprehensive about the process. Your healthcare team believes you are a good candidate for surgery, which is why they offered it to you. That's a huge endorsement! Follow their plan, be consistent, and stay positive. You will come out of this being better. Since you are preparing for surgery, here is a video I created after my surgery with many tips. Best of wishes on your surgery and keep us updated! th-cam.com/video/_ir4_uy9MU8/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for these videos. There are a lot of shoulder surgery videos out there but I really relate to yours because I am a 66 year old man that is still very vigorous and wants to return to active activities. I had three full thickness tears that were successfully repaired last week. My surgeon is conservative about full tears so no real PT until I complete 6 weeks in the sling. After one week I am allowed to take off the sling as long as I am in a safe environment to allow me to do un weighted curls. I’m walking every day, now my challenge is to find some safe ab workouts because I am definitely losing tone. Thanks again!
Day 7 for me and my pain towards evening is really bad. Sleeping is my worse with pain through the night. Thanks for all your guidance through this recovery. My supraspinatus and biceps were repaired
We had similar repairs. Sorry to hear about your pain. The good news is it gets better. So does the sleep. You are most welcome. I’m glad the videos have been helpful. Best wishes with your recovery.
your videos are a great help for pre surgery. mine is this June 22nd. so I am nervous and other emotions but watching you helps calm me. thank you for your help in videoing your progress.

Love this !!! I’m on week 5 and everything said especially about tensing up , I was doing that so much and when I let go it seemed to settle down. Love watching your journey !
Mine settled down a ton. It’s amazing how much pain I was inflicting on myself without knowing it. It sounds like you have remedied your tensing as well. That’s great. We will get there!
Thank you ver much for all the info its really helping me! This my 3rd day going to gym for 20 min bike now im going to add abs! This monday i start my PT, im doing some PT excercises at home that my doctor recomend, thank you!! ❤
You are most welcome! I’m glad the videos are helping. It sounds like you are doing well…awesome! Follow your healthcare teams directions, but if you need some additional information, I made 31 videos covering all phases of recovery. Best wishes with your recovery!
I am on day seven also and I would say my experience is exactly the same as yours. Very little pain not much swelling and the daily physical therapy is a bit of a challenge, but it’s coming along. I believe it’s important to not push it but to let it happen over the six week. Thanks for your efforts.
Very good , I wouldn’t be too much concerned about doing anything other than what the physiotherapist would suggest , but less is very much more . I found & my surgeon as was my physiotherapist was surprised at the progress given that I’m 62 , I’m use Superslow , 5-10 seconds each way when using an exercise some complete control so no tension , main exercise was the leg press , where the fatigue overspill really assists healing more than anything , I visited Physiotherapy once a month did physiotherapy on my own every other day , but not if (NHS , UK ) don’t be too much in a rush , that muscle to bone really needs no disturbance while healing , it was a full thickness 3cm tear . Within 9 months I was back at work pushing ladders up. I found doing less & working around really helped. & the surgeons here don’t use the abduction sling at all ! So it doesn’t give your supraspinatus a shock when goes into its normal position, that helped too . Don’t worry about the cardio , leg press will do that ! Good video , encouraging.
Your videos are helpful. Day 7 for me today. I find those little things i been trying to do with my hands ache later as well. Sleeping is hard. I have no recliners so pillows i am trying to prop myself with. I also had a rt rotator cuff tear repaired. I had this tear since 2019 and did not want to do surgery. Could no longer avoid it.
I'm so glad to hear the videos are helpful. I had the same thing happen doing the little things. I found limiting my movements helped significantly with pain and recovery. Only moving my shoulder for my passive range of motion exercises. While I had a recliner and it did help, especially for relaxing, my sleep came best from finding the right combination of pillows propped around me, like building a nest. I had to experiment a lot, but found the right positions for me. After, I slept better, but in chunks. I got it where I could, including naps. I talk about that in other videos. Here is the playlist. Hope it helps! th-cam.com/play/PLQSf5JL3jJjSHFX3dxy1_j9Hxyv-jKAoo.html&si=otpWEj-cgjV-cSGr
Greetings from Germany. I am on day 7 post surgery (supraspinatus tear). I was so afraid doing too much or being too active, but once i see what you are doing I am really relaxed. :)) As you said, once i stopped to guard my arm on day3 it got way better! I only need pain medicine before night. Last but not least I started PT on day 3 and it helps so much, even if it is kind of painful.
First of all thank you for your videos they're awesome. I just had my labrum repaired and my rotator cuff repaired in three different places yesterday. Pain has been pretty significant treating with celebrex and Tylenol. I have a question during your pre-op and post-op surgery did you experience any pain in your bicep where your elbow is? I'm having a lot of pain in the bend in my elbow at the bottom of my bicep. I didn't tear my bicep tendon however I don't know if he had to attach the upper part or not. I go and find out on the 21st to look at the pictures. Just curious if you had any pain in that region during your pre or post-op surgery. Thanks again for your videos they've been a great help and what to expect thank you
Thank you! I’m glad the videos have. Den helpful. I had a bicep tenodesis (BT). I did have some pain and discomfort around my elbow region during recovery. It sounds like you had a BT as well. Definitely verify that. There are things you can do to alleviate or at least mitigate the pain.
Yes, that can be normal. I found that standing and moving around helped. That is as long as I kept my involved shoulder and arm immobile. Also passive range of motion with a partner or PT helped me a lot. Tylenol and ice was a tremendous help. NSAIDS helped also once my surgeon OK'd their usage.
Hi I been watching all your videos and I am sure by the time you receive this message you are doing well. I am going to have subacromial decompression and rotator cuff surgery and I will be fitted with the same brace as you have with the pillow in July 2023. I have a question I need to purchase a shower mesh shower sling to keep my shoulder not to move. I looked at amazon however I do not understand how will I get my arm in the shower sling that are latched at the wrist. Which sling mesh for shower would you recommend. If you can provide me with the product name with the one you purchase I would be really appreciated. Thank you for all your video and your help with the mesh sling for shower. 🇨🇦🇱🇷
Apologies for the late reply. Hopefully this will still help. There are a lot of slings that will work, but below is what I used. TODDOBRA Mesh Arm Shoulder Sling - Medical Shoulder Immobilizer for Shower Having someone help you get into the sling is easiest, but you can also use a similar technique as putting on a shirt if you are doing it by yourself. I’ll link that video in another message.

@Madalyn V I got my sling off on Week 6. I couldn't do much desk work until a few weeks after. I was able to start typing for longer periods around Week 8. It just improved from there. Around Week 10-12 is when it got more normal again. Here is the link to the Week 8 video, specifically at the portion of things I could start doing that week, including the desk work. th-cam.com/video/omSD79JWwgg/w-d-xo.html
I assure you my experiences are not fake. I worked out at a very high-level right before going into the surgery. Literally the day before. I found it hard to not work out for an entire week. I finally did on day seven after my surgery. If you watch future episodes, you will see my physical therapist, and Physician wife told me I shouldn’t be doing what I did on day seven. I explained that on my day 10 video. This was 100% real!
