With a loaded top box and 30 litres in the tank, my Rally Explorer is a real challenge to handle around manually. My GSA has a low boxer engine and my Super Adventure S has low fuel tanks. Still, The Triumph is the better bike for me.

Interesting but would have been better comparing both pro versions or both explorer versions.

After running the 900 Rally Pro for nearly two years and the only off roading I have done is getting to my camping space at the ABR festival, I would choose the GT pro or explorer (also because I am 5’6” and I cannot consider a seat higher than 850mm - 800 would suit me best)
The main reason I don’t go off road is that my skill level is non-existent and a heavy bike for a short guy nearing 60 is a disaster waiting to happen.
I have my fingers crossed that the new smaller off-road focused offering from triumph, when it does come out allows a lower seat option and lighter, that way I could maybe get one for fun off road and leave the longer journeys on the road to a more road focused alternative 🤔

At 5'6" (though a little younger than you) I had no issues riding the Rally Pro Explorer (though did end up ordering the Rally Pro instead as didn't want to pay for a 30litre take I didn't need). I am currently on the 900 Rally Pro (having decided to try a smaller bike but missed the shaft drive and electronics so going back up in size for me (when it arrives sometime in 2023). I do ride both on and off road having done 34000 miles on the last 1200 XCA and the new 1200 is a better balanced bike

Do try the 2022 KTM 390 Adventure. I too am nearing my 60s and had a Versys 650 for 3 years. I wanted to do the extreme, remote parts of the country (I am from India) and the Versys simply wasn't up for it.
And these 1200 cc Triumphs range from 249 kgs to 260 kgs? With luggage, 300 kgs plus? And when (not if) it tips over, and you are alone, without any help, what do you do?
I rode a friend's 1200 GS for 6 months. It was easily the best highway tourer ever. And, a buffalo pregnant with triplets in the rough.

@@mvjoshi both the KTM 390 (and 890) are good machines that I ride regularly off road. Even considered a 890 Adventure R as my own bike but there is only one bike I am willing to sit on for 10 hours across a German Autobhan and then ride off road in Eastern Europe and that is a Triumph

      Hi Jesse.
I havent picked it up yet, Sept 2nd is the day.
Here in Oz there is a wait time on some accessories (in my case panniers and rack ... 8 - 12 weeks).
But I'm gunna pick it up and get some Kms on it.
Still waiting on someone to release a tank bag for it.
Glad to read you're having a blast.

I went with the GT Pro because I’m over 60 and not as strong as I once was, the PRO I felt was more manageable for me. I added upper and lower bars plus a heated seat which the dealer threw in for a very competitive price all fitted. Best bike I’ve ever owned and I’ve had a few over the years.

  • @TheGeoffHill

Love the subtitles which claim they have 848bhp :) Both great bikes, although I preferred the GT Pro: lighter and more agile. The Rally Explorer is so tall that I dislocated both hips and a knee climbing aboard - and I'm 6ft 7ins.

What Jesse said, they come on the Explorer models, which are the top spec versions. So the GT Explorer (which is the road biased Tiger) and the Rally Explorer (off road)

  • @larrydoyle907
    @larrydoyle907 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think for me it would be the GT Explorer coming from a 1250GSA - my riding is more touring / road focussed although I do take the gsa on green lanes & forest trails so would want to continue to do that. It is unfortunate that Triumph were the only manufacturer at ABR 2022 to only allow UK riders take their bikes out on test so in the end I won't be buying one based on the fact they cannot afford the insurance (that was the excuse I was given) yet Moto Morini could??
I did get to test a friends bike for a short spin & thought it was a good bike so might take another look at it. Also got to ride the V4S at ABR and looking closely at the new V4S Rally as a 2023 winner.

@@nlwouter6161 definitely in 2022 they would only allow uk riders with a dvla code - they may have changed policy by 2023 due to negative feedback but I had lost interest by that time so didn’t bother to join the enormous queue
