Recently “downsized” to a 2024 Africa Twin ATAS after owning a 2023 Tiger 1200 RP. I miss the power of the Tiger but the ATAS is a much easier bike to live with everyday.

    • @soggywuffles882

@@craigfinnegan8534 difference in seat height is a noticeable one, the ATAS doesn’t feel as top heavy as the Tiger, and one of the big reasons I got rid of my Tiger was due to random stalling issues. Despite the dealer updating the ecu multiple times the bike would die randomly. Happened to me once on the freeway and once in a roundabout. They never could figure out what the cause was.
Also forgot to add, for me the Tiger seat was vastly more comfortable. ATAS turns into a torture device around the two hour mark.

@@craigfinnegan8534 funny you mention that, I just got done with a 1500 mile trip from NJ to Vermont and back today. The ATAS loaded with a duffle bag on the back seat and a 57L Givi top case wasn’t phased by it. Did it feel down on power compared to the Tiger yes, but it never felt overwhelmed by the changes in elevation. Averaged a surprising 54mpg, my old Tiger was in the 42-44mpg category.

    As ever, a cracking review!
Done over 20,000 miles on the GT Explorer version. Fantastic bike! When I am in the market for a new one I'll get the Rally variant. For me, they look fantastic (for an adventure bike). The new GS has fallen out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. The height of the bike is a plus point for me (6'2'') so don't use or need the lowering tech. You have convinced to go for a test ride.

I've been a Triumph Tiger 800 owner for ten years, Gen 1-3 and loved them, great bikes. Had a 2018 Explorer but it was a big heavy for me so was really looking forward to the new 1200 in 22. I really didn't like the first iteration of the T-plane engine. Coming from the old Triple the vibes were really noticeable.
This new version for 24 Rally Explorer is a big improvement in that dept. So much smoother and with a glorious howl on the pipe. What's great about owning one of these is that you are not just one of a crowd of people on GS, AT or Ducati's.
I think these are great bikes and underrated. Owned mine since April and already clocked up 6.5K
Had an issue with a front shock and my key fob failing but great support from my dealer Triumph West London and Triumph themselves.

Unfortunately I've just written off my 2023 GT Pro with 4000 miles (not my fault). So whereas I would have kept my bike for 5 years now I've lost about £4000. This depreciation is not helped by Triumph essentially saying the first TV plane was bad, the new one is so much better. You can see this in the second hand prices too and the Rally Pro's never sell very well as they are so tall, even with the lower seat. I loved the bike and honestly the vibes were never bad in my T Plane but Triumph are trying to chase after GS buyers and pander to existing riders who don't like change (the T plane). Because if this I'll think twice before buying Triumph again.

Whilst I believe you can still get gap insurance I'm not sure they'd simply pay out the original purchase price (maybe in the first year?), maybe they would, it's something I need to look into for the future. Potentially I could replace my bike with the offer amount, to get a bike if a similar age and mileage so you could argue the insurance has done it's job but my preference is to buy new, be the first owner and keep for 5 years (usually)

I’ve just returned from a tour around Southern France on my ‘22 GT Pro, for those that don’t know about French motorways the speed limit is about 79 mph in the dry, you can travel hundreds of miles at high speed because they’re free flowing……..
So let’s deal with this so called vibe issue, there isn’t one, it’s blown out of all proportion true you know it’s got an engine but for me I just don’t feel or experience it?
My 20 litre tank worked fine for me over long distance in a modern European country.
Negatives the Dash is rubbish, you simply can’t find information quickly enough unless you trawl through a bunch of menus, adaptive cruise control would be really useful.
The seat is horrible it’s hell bent on rolling you forwards into the tank and squashing your nuts, something addressed on the latest iteration
All the other stuff bikes are being loaded up with are a waste of time in my opinion, you simply find a setting you like (for me it’s Sports mode with road suspension and tc) set off and go.
The bike is exciting, handles like a dream and costs a darn sight less than a Ducati or a BMW, the ride height works well, enter a town button on, lower bike, ride out of town and go above 42mph I think and it’s back up to normal automatically.

    • @chello885
      @chello885 หลายเดือนก่อน

I also found that the seat pushed me forward onto the tank. I’ve set the seat on the high position at the front and the low position at the back and this has helped flatten the seat out. It has helped, you could try. Everything else has been great, the so called engine vibes don’t bother me at all.

Since owning a '23 Rally Explorer for a year and a half now, I've definitely learned that vibration affects people differently. I've cruised all day on my bike, and I honestly don't know what some people are on about with the vibes. I find it to be a very comfortable cruiser with more than enough tech. As far as adaptive cruise control is concerned, I don't really find it that useful. I'd rather be more engaged in riding. And with the experience I have with it, it has a difficult time identifying motorcycles ahead of you, making it useless on group rides. I've ridden the '24 and the only thing I like better about it is the shape of the new seat. The old seat is comfortable, but the new one is just a notch above. As far as resale value is concerned, it doesn't sound like a great market for any bike. '22 Pan Americas can be had for 50% of their original sale price right now. That's just one example of many.

    • @Kevimoto
      @Kevimoto หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@user-tw6my9tk8c for that kind of a discount, I would 100% jump on the Tiger. I think you'll find the long term cost of ownership is less than the BMW too. It appears that the new GS is having some teething problems. I wouldn't touch one of those for at least a year or two, while they iron the bugs. I would highly recommend taking the Tiger for a test ride first. Some people have said they can't ride the bike more than ten minutes without their hands going numb (I find that hard to believe), while others, like myself, ride in comfort all day. It seems to be a very personal thing.

So I got one, rally explorer 2024 in matt sandstorm... got 7k so for on it and I can tell you all some good points and some bad points.
    The GOOD:
    - suspension is sublime, poetic, the best one I've ever ridden.
    - engine below 4k RPM is something, after that it's something else, it pulls hard and it likes it. When cold you can hear the valve tappers but after 15 mins. it's OK.
    - the set is good, comfortable and indeed it helps with the long miles
    - the back warning radar - I was skeptical in the beginning but now yes, it's a must..
    - brakes are good but they squeak
    The BAD:
    - the horn, there is a micro second delay between my push of the horn button and the sound, I don't like it.
    - the turn signal is without any feedback or very little, i don't like it
    - and the most critical.... the dashboard. I cannot customize it the way I want it, no oil temperature, coolant temperature, instant fuel consumption, you cannot customize the info I want. At this price point this is embarrassing
PS. My previous bike was a Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 brand new - the latest model.
Overall it's good bike i think.

Low seats costing more is a particular bugbear of mine. Nothing but a con by the manufacturers to squeeze more money out of people. I mean, I’ve never been to a clothes shop where they’ve made me buy an XXL T shirt and then pay extra for an XL T shirt because that actually fits me. At the end of the day you only need one seat. You’re spending a lot of money for an adventure bike these days the right seat for you should come as standard.

Yes it is very competitive in its chosen niche. is far better looking than the hideous BMW GS1300 sAdventure futt-bugly cow-pattie on 2 wheels.
No question about it. This Triumph is better than the BMW. So few people really take these "Goldwing Lite" touring rigs off road. Shaft drive. Tubeless spoke wheels and superb looks make it highly desirable. More so than the Honda Afreaka Twin, the eyesore BMW (across the board but especially so the sAdventure version) and even the Harley and Multistrada.
Honestly, if I were in the market for a big SUV of a motorbike this Triumph would be it! There is nothing wrong with either SUVs or this genre of motorbike. These bikes are as I said, the new "Goldwing Lite", i.e., long distance TOURING RIGS. Harley could use a much larger tank model but instead they gave us an expe$ive paint job (CVO model). Stoopid of them.
The Multistrada V4 Rally is a great bike too but again, this Triumph is the One.

Triumph should have built a Tiger Sport 1200. I won't touch these adventure models. Triumph focused too much on the Rally and compromised the rest of the range. It's way too tall and should have stuck with the 17 19 wheel formula. The rear 18 looks like a biscuit, and the GT handles worse than the Rally on the road. You'd be silly to buy a brand new Triumph over the beemer when considering that secondhand Triumphs have very poor residual. Still a cool machine, I just think Triumph misread the market and created something too niche. Improve the electronics, make it more approachable for normal sized humans, and they might have something worth buying.

I ride a '23 GT Pro. To make my seat better, I have the front set to the high setting, rear to low. This flattens out the seat so I do not keep sliding forward. Thank god it does NOT add more tech. It is a friggin' motorcycle! The 'techy' bikes are just a car, minus the passenger side. Like others, I have to ask where are these horrible vibes? Maybe if I rode in the 7-9,000 rpm range instead of shifting ...

I bought a 23 GT Explorer back in March of this year and I love it. I do wish the electronics was easier to get around. The vibration is a problem, even though I installed weighted bar ends and Grip Puppies. I was wondering if the 24 model had a different handlebar mount that I could change to if it is different from my 23. That might make it a little better. My dealer says it is the same but I'm not sure about that.

I feel Triumph need to go the way Honda did with the Africa Twin. I love the look of this bike and as a 1200GS owner this is now the only option for me as I cannot get to terms with the new GS's looks, especially the GSA which I wanted but is now out of the question. I want this bike, if they really sorted out the vibes, but with smaller wheels but still spoked as I love spoked wheels even if not as practical. And I want it lower. Honda realised that and made their flag ship have smaller spoked wheels and lower to the ground. Some may say go with the GT, perhaps, but it does nto come with spoked wheels..This bike was always very beautiful but the vibes I read about put me off...What if Triumph put the old triple back into it as well and have that as the road orientated verison. So you can still have the T-plane if you want but in the taller, smaller tank i.e. more off-road version. And for street, the smooth triple, lowered stance and smaller spoked wheels for the look. I'd have that
