    Switched from HD to a Chieftain dark horse. Very similar to this bike. Same engine, frame and suspension. You are right on about this bike in every way. Feels good to hear some one brag on my bike. Thanks for reviewing it!❤

    I ride a Roadmaster Dark Horse which is functionally and ergonomically the same bike with lower fairings and a trunk, including the 116. I call it my 2 wheel Cadillac. I love the ride, commuting and all day rides. It's even comfortable in the Tennessee winters.

  • @jordanjoestar8839
    @jordanjoestar8839 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    The OEM Fox shock, strong brakes, forged aluminum chassis and balance make these feel much lighter than the Street Glide. With the cammed 116ci these things fly. Crazy how much you get right off the lot. These can be ridden very hard and they shift smooth and handle intense riding (I ride sportbikes so I beat the piss out of the Indians when I ride them). They are definitely able to be pushed very hard right out of the box and they love it. Lots of Harleys being traded in for the Indians here in SD, the home of Sturgis.

    • @lovablevietboy
      @lovablevietboy ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a lie, I work in SD and that's not true at all. Barely, people trade in Harley's for Indians, its the opposite actually.

    I love what Indian's doing with their bikes. I've got a Scout and wanna add a touring bike (Challenger) to the stable, but I wish they made a liquid cooled version with a windscreen instead of a touring fairing, like how they have the Springfield for the air cooled lineup. Unfortunately, they'd need a gas tank with an odometer, which they don't have for the liquid cooled baggers yet.

      Despite my negative thoughts and comments on the Indian reviewed here you are 100% right in that each individual can have a good time on their preferred machine regardless of what it is. I do draw the line at scooters though :) I would also agree that it’s a good thing to have different style of bikes reviewed. Some people are even lucky enough to have a good time on any style of bike. I should perhaps try to be less narrow minded.

    I'm on a 2011 Victory Crossroads. The power, comfort, and top-end are excellent. The shifting is very clunky and I've even added an aftermarket shifting link. I think Polaris took all the good from Victory, and fixed the bad. The new Indians are the new standard.

  • @echevarriawilson
    @echevarriawilson ปีที่แล้ว +10

    What I noticed when I rode that bike is that it has a longer wheel base then the street glide Harley frame. It is capable of technical maneuvers because it does depend on the rider, however you are at a disadvantage at a competitive cone course with the Indian because there is less room to play with in a technical pattern. This was made more for long trips and comfort than it was for competitive cone courses. Just a different tool for the job and I can say I was really impressed with what is offered as standard equipment.

    • @PotatoeJoe69
      @PotatoeJoe69 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      People who buy touring bikes aren't buying them to handle; they buy them because they wanna look cool, or they wanna actually tour.
      If you want a bike that handles better but you could tour on, the Super Chief is there

    • @echevarriawilson
      @echevarriawilson ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PotatoeJoe69 I wouldn't blanket statement that by saying they don't get them to handle. The Electra glide and street glide have been known in the police course as being very good contenders that Donnie Williams have used and they are touring machines. I've ridden the super chief and even though it is great at handling, it has no lean angle for a competitive course. But like I said before, different tools for different uses. I'm not saying one is better then the other. I'm just pointing out the difference with what I've ridden and seen. Indian makes a great bike and I would love to have one for those long rides.

    Don't like how that navigation screen is showing you moving from right to left rather than bottom to top. That can get confusing if you're used to using a Garmin type. Don't know if that's something that can be changed with the touch of a button?

    • @multibusa
      @multibusa ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not a nitpick in my opinion. A bike like that and price should definitely have heated grips as standard. I recently bought a gen 3 Hayabusa which despite being described as a hyper sport tourer doesn’t come standard with heated grips either which is pants given the steep cost of the bike. At the time of purchase I enquired about having OEM heated grips fitted. After I fell over at the price [about £350 I think] I decided to fit some after market grips manufactured by Oxford. In colder weather I think h/grips essential as very cold hands are slow and unresponsive to act such as a time an emergency stop might be needed.

      @@thomasjoseph9224 which one A street glide or road glide? Do you like the single headlight look on a SG or the dual on a RG? I love the chieftain because it’s old school with the air cooled engine but new technology. BUT the water cooled challenger is so nice to ride. I currently ride my 2021 Vintage Dark Horse (Air cooled) around town and for longer rides the Challenger all the way.
      I’ve ridden Harley Baggers and they still vibrate like crazy in comparison to the Indians. I’m not a huge power/speed demon but I noticed a big difference over the Hd’s I’ve ridden.
      My son and I came across 3 Harley’s one night at a gas station. All younger kids in their 20’s. I was on my Dark Horse and they were pointing out all the ways my Indian was better than their Harleys 😂. I was surprised but it was very interesting coming from them. Harleys are nice especially CVO’s but they’ve got to catch up to Indian’s in my opinion.

      @@TRaider66 great review and story! Looking at the street glide for Harley. I haven’t ridden a road glide but not so sure I like the shark nose. I was looking at a chieftain elite for the Indian. I’m going to ride both again and make a decision soon…

    what are the specific items that come ONLY on the elite over the limited? So far, I can only tell that its the different shaped screen, rear speakers, adaptive headlight, and some engine trim pieces. Anything else?

    I went to test ride the challenger a few days ago and was ready to buy it, but after the ride, I didn't love it. Felt really bulky and the faring was too big for my liking. I was disheartened and left without riding any other bike. But from what I've been hearing about the chieftain, I think I'm going in Monday and test riding this. If I like it, I'm definitely buying it.

      need to learn how and practice and its doable, but I'm much more comfortable on smaller bikes... I'm shorter than you, and I rode a friends big Harley similar to this, and dropped it twice (scuffed the bars some). No way I could pick it up though, so I wouldn't want to ride it alone. If it was mine I'd have to make some serious adjustments to the seating, foot controls, bars, levers, and stuff, as it was made for someone larger... then after making it fit me, and practicing a while, I'd probably feel just fine with it.

    • @HangTimeSolutions
      @HangTimeSolutions ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should be fine it's well balanced and good to ride at slow speed when your height will matter they offer reduced reach handlebars. If needed and come standard with low seat height if your inseam is 28" or more you should be able to flat foot at a stop. I have a 30" inseam and can stand up off the seat I'm 5'7" and my friend is 5'5" and both of us have no problem with handling this bike. The weight feels like it disappears and handles like a smaller bike. I prefer the Challenger or Pursuit but you can't go wrong with either Indian Touring or Bagger.

    • @HangTimeSolutions
      @HangTimeSolutions ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AyaWetts The bigger Harley Davidson bike are more top heavy on slower speeds than Indian Motorcycle. So if your technique is not good you are more prone to a drop. Practice more and it won't matter. You can also lift the bike by yourself with proper technique. Look for a Pro Rider class in your area for instruction. Women 5'0" can ride and lift these bike
