    Glad you like the Indian, I prefer HD. My review is of You. I don't see any ego in you but rather a soft-spoken man who is confident. Your way of instruction is honest and to the point and patient with no bullish or name calling like other's I have seen. Watching you is pleasant and lets me focus on the instruction. Others should take note of your manner. Good luck with the new bike, John

    I am a Harley rider but I like the Indian Challenger and Pursuit versions. The biggest thing I like about these New Indian bikes is their modern features such as full counterbalancing, no pushrods, full liquid cooling, single hole oil fill and drainage, no primary chain, and smooth no clunk shifting. HD is still playing catch-up.

    Vehicles come from the factory with delayed throttle response for older drivers/riders and less experienced operators. That delayed response is to give the operator a split second to react in case they accidentally gun the throttle or are overcommitted too early. It’s a safety feature that’s not really talked about

  • @MaxJW-ln4xm
    @MaxJW-ln4xm ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thank you for your honest review. I am an Indian owner, but of an earlier year 2019 Roadmaster Elite & very interested in the Challenger/Pursuit. Some suggestions for you from what I've researched:
    1. Forgot to mention 2 things, fairing vents close with the lever inside, H-D's dont & the electronic pre-load is a game changer.
    2. Your throttle lag is a common problem with these bikes. The Indian tune does nothing. Suggest looking up Lloyd'z, who is the speed guru for Victory & Indian. His tune will end the throttle lag immediately.
    3. Suggest a 2 into 1 exhaust as you will lose hp with a dual exhaust setup.
    4. For lights, if you are switching to Custom Dynamics, look at their adaptive headlight (I think it is brighter) & their Pro One series of tail lights or see if their module will allow the stock LED's to flash, run, stop, brake & I would (& did on my bike) add the module that converts the outside bag lights to do the same thing. Just some helpful hints I've picked up along the way.
    And Finess might be able to suggest some more stuff to get that that bike in peak operation.
    It doesn't need much, but trust, me do what you have to do to make the bike fit you.
    I'll keep watching

    I opens the lower vent and aimed it towards the engine on the exhaust side and it really helps with the heat. The tour pac will start closing easier once the seal breaks in. I completely agree on the fit of the tour pack.

      That's a nice pro tip about directing the lower on the exhaust side. I'll have to try that - though I've not experienced a lot of heat from the radiator.
      All the bags need a little extra love to get closed. Don't slam the lids, just click and love it a bit more and they close nicely and it does get easier with time.

    • @rogertodd38
      @rogertodd38 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nobody mentions that you can program the engine to turn off the rear cylinder when the bike is at idle to reduce the heat. Actually I think mine came programmed that way but I killed that feature because excessive heat is not an issue for me. He didn't mention the gear position indicator which is a really big deal for me although some people don't like it. He also didn't mention the computerized ride control system that I believe his bike came with, it is a wonderful feature. The author of this video is obviously a far more advanced rider than I am and I have the utmost respect for him but I thought I would mention a few of the features that he may have overlooked. The last thing he didn't mention was the price. This bike costs a lot of money but I believe that you get what you pay for and I don't believe you will find a better touring motorcycle on the market than the Indian Pursuit. As stated in the video this bike is not perfect but it comes very close.I hope the author keeps these videos coming!

  • @DarkHorseParatrooper
    @DarkHorseParatrooper ปีที่แล้ว +9

    You can use a motorcycle jack on it. I have a challenger, same build as a pursuit, I am a Indian tech, I do all my own maintenance at home, I use a motorcycle jack from harbor freight no issues. Looks just like the one you've shown in previous videos.
    Edit: you probably havent got the positioning down. You gotta put the part that holds the bike right up next to the kickstand. I always remove the seat and use tie downs to secure the bike also to the jack for extra safety.

    • @BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
      @BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was told by an Indian tech and the service manager that I could damage the break lines by using a motorcycle jack.

    • @scottquier929

    Here's a little heads up from a short guy who needed some help with the reach on my 2022 Pursuit Limited. KST now makes 4" pullback bars for the Challenger and Pursuit in polished stainless and blacked out. I put them on my bike, and it's made all of the difference in the world for me. I need to give credit where credit is due. I found these bars while following DMV Solorider. We are roughly the same height, around 5'6", so reaching the stock bars was extremely difficult. He had tried the Indian 2" pullback bars, and they still weren't long enough, so I held off until these came out. He was on a mission, and I knew it was just a matter of time before he found longer bars. Now, I can actually sit back on my backrest with my arms slightly bent. If you do decide to change bars, take your time getting the clutch side grip off, I destroyed mine trying to get it off, and a new heated grip is around $150. Indian used WAY, WAY too much grip glue. DMV Solorider and I have sent some comments back and forth along the way, and while he has the Indian highway pegs, he's not completely satisfied with them because they're too short for him. That being said, I mentioned the Kuryakyn adjustable highway peg mounts with boards. He seemed to think that would probably be a better fit for me as they have a longhorn style that would probably work better for me. Have a great time on your new Pursuit.

    6:40 "If you want me to like something, just put a light on it." says the retired Highway Patrolman. Figures.
    I have both the Harley Davidson Street Glide Special and the Indian Pursuit Limited Premium and my toughest decision I have each day is which one I want to ride to work. Both do have their pros and cons, and that's okay. Even though both bikes are some of the upper echelon in their series (excluding bikes with lots of aftermarket add-ons) they perform differently in different situations. The Street Glide is great in the city and the Pursuit is utter perfection on the highway.
    And as you said, most of what I think of these bikes is purely subjective, but I guess if you wanted to crunch just the numbers, the Pursuit would come out on top.
    Enjoyed your video!

    Recently experienced demo days at local Indian dealership. I rode the springfield, chieftain and the challenger. I skipped at the opportunity of the pursuit, had the kickstand up and in gear preloading and it just felt too top heavy for me (shorty here at 5'7"). I agree with your assessment of the pursuit/challenger. Big things for me is handle bar pull back on backorder and lack of aftermarket and not being able to lift the bike to do maintenance without a table. All three models felt like I was reaching with legs and arms, me thinking and looking at rk's now. I ride a metric now and will forever keep her.

    Rob, I also own a 2023 Pursuit and that was an accurate review as anyone can do. I just took a trip from Long Island to Sturgis. 5100 miles round trip. I think the longer you own it, the more you'll love it. This bike really thrives on the highway. Handles incredible for a large touring bike yet rides like a Cadillac. I think you'll find the heat issue gets better as it breaks in. At least mine did. I swapped out the bag lights for Custom Dynamics so now the brake and turn signals work in sync.. So much better! I also swapped out the bars. If I can give you a heads up; the KST Comanche bars have a tremendous amount of flex to them. Did not like them at all. Swapped them out for Siouxicide Choppers and problem solved. Good luck with the bike. Stay Safe!

    I loved your review. Honest, objective and very intelligent. FYI: I own a Pursuit Dark Horse Premium. I picked it up on 7 June, brought it in for its 500 mile service on 8 June and on 9 June embarked on a 5,670 mile ride through ten states and four mountain ranges. I had 25 pounds in the trunk and 25 pound on top of it. Bags were full. I dialed in the suspension on the ride command screen and was absolutely amazed by how responsive yet plush the suspension was… the bike tracked super smoothly through canyons, over mountain ranges and along interstates. I loved the ride command + CarPlay combo and used Apple Maps almost exclusively. Never failed me. This is an absolutely stonking bike. I am already planning a trip for next summer to the north east, and Appalachia.
    BTW: Not a single problem so far. The bike just goes and goes and goes.

      Some dealership have rental programs. I rented one for 8 hours for about $200. That was a deal changer for me and convinced me and (even more importantly) my wife that this was a very comfortable bike. I have had to change out the handlebars for what they call "exteded reach" to get the grips a little close to me (I'm a little short) and that made all the difference in the world.

    I have a 2022 Blue DH Pursuit with over 9500k miles. I have installed a stubby carbon fiber antenna and can still get the weather channels. I also have the reduced reach bars and those are a game changer now you do have to order them from witchdoctors to get them powdered coated black. As for the heat on the right side I have the vents pointed towards the motor on both sides, for me I line the outer edge of the lever up with the inner edge of the plastic that wraps around the highway bars. I have the Indian highway pegs also they are really comfortable and the powder coating is a perfect match to the highway bars.

    Great review man. Love my Pursuit Elite but have the same issues as you mentioned. The tour pack does get easier to close as it breaks in and I found a guy who makes risers that really make it close better. I do long distance (12K in 3 months so far) and don’t understand why Indian would not have an elite backrest. I don’t want plain black because it would not match the bronze stitching of the seat. The Metzler tires grip the road but wear out way too fast. I had to replace the rear already, it literally started falling apart. And the front end wobble was due to the front tire. New Michelins took care of the wobble. Keep the videos coming and thanks for your service!

Also disappointed with the lack of driver backrest and no option to buy a matching one. I am the passenger and would very much appreciate your wife's opinion of this bike. I would also like to share mine. Indian should be ashamed of the windshield that comes stock. For the passenger, even all the way up, the wind is too much. After riding over 40 mph for more than 30 minutes, I want to get off and stay off! Can barely hear the music. Have tried both full face and half helmet. Have ordered a different windshield so hopefully that will correct the issue. But for now I would rather not ride at all than be on this bike.

    A solution to heat from the Indian Pursuit engine!
    I got my 2023 Indian Pursuit about a year and a half ago and when summertime came I thought I was going to have to get rid of it because of the heat. I already had the catalytic converter removed but there is a lot of heat coming from the top of the cylinders especially the front one. In 95 degree plus heat it was almost unbearable to ride and dangerously hot to ride when around 100 degrees or more. I looked around for some airwings like those made for Honda's but found none that would work.
    I had Gustafsson Plastics custom make me some airwings. They do not make any mounting solutions so I had to buy some Honda airwings and use their mount for the custom airwings. The shape of the available airwings is not good enough to bring sufficient air onto the rider, so that is why I had some custom made. These custom make airwings made a big difference in shedding heat away from me. I would post a picture of them but there does not seem to be a way to do that.
    I also got the Indian heated and cooled seat. That also helps a lot and it actually gets cool to the touch although it does take several minutes to cool.

    Thank you so much for this awesome review Lt. Simmons.
    Jeez Polaris will always act like a corporate and try to save pennies on everything, my 2015 Victory Magnum (supposed to be top of the line at that time) came with a tour pack which usually comes with the cross country, and like you said exactly LT it feels like unfinished cheap plastic.
    Also your shifter is exactly the same as mine, I'm gonna check the compatibility and the price of the heel toe shifter for Victory and Indian, I swear to God if they're the same (with the same part number) and they're charging you more for it I'm gonna be furious and I promise I'll let you know.

    Nice honest review, I respect that, and just wanted to add a few comments. You mention it's hot, and I agree, but in my opinion ALL V-twin bikes are. I had an HD Sport Glide that was EXTREMELY hot on the right leg, and that was not fixable, I'm sure you were actually referring to the right side. My Pursuit is not nearly as hot as the HD was, but still can get uncomfortably hot at times, only on the right side. Pipes radiate heat, and that is mainly where you get the heat from, but that is partially fixable. Tab sells the Cat Delete which replaces the converter underneath the bike, and where a great deal of the heat is coming from. Easy to fix since you are replacing the pipes anyway. Of course you will likely need to re-tune it then. Custom Dynamics will solve your lighting issues, my Pursuit did not come with the saddlebag lights, and the CD ones are perfect. They are integrated into the turn signals as well. Not sure why Indian didn't make them that way. Yes, you need new bars, I installed the Folsom style on mine, and I love them! More height and reach. I am 5'9" so you have a nice advantage over me, and if I can set this bike up to fit me properly, you should have no issues. Good Luck with getting her properly setup, I know you will grow to appreciate it more as time goes on. She likes to go long distances, give that a try.
    Rick

      Oh, and get yourself a Freedom Shield windshield, they are perfect. I got the 9" one which has the flip and is so much nicer being able to see over it. My short stature was really an issue with that tall stock one. I had them engrave an Indian head from the Dream Catcher collection. Looks great! Take Care

    Once you get use to the Indian setup you will hit all controls without looking. Get a fuel Moto tuner for it and your throttle response can be tuned and fuel map. If you think that liquid cool gets hot you should try the Roadmaster being stock that cat in the pipes is the cause of it. Ditch the cat and get a TAB performance header for it. Once you get the tour pack broke in it closes easily.

    Great video Robert. Love that your willing to work with different manufacturers and models. I had a 22 Pursuit Limited Premium and immediately ordered the Pursuit Elite when the order banks opened. You point out a few of my gripes as well. I have the reduced reach handlebars ordered. The 22 Pursuit I had didn't have the "reduced reach" bars but the bars were closer to me. The Elite has more of a drag bar. Odd decision for a premium touring MC. I'll be changing out my saddle bag light for the Custom Dynamic so the have the brake light and turn signals integrated. The trunk is much easier to close if you just let it slam like a door. I was pushing down like you were and it took a lot of effort to get it to latch. The slam method makes it easier to securely close it.

    My FTR would absolutely burn me up after I had been riding more than 10 minutes. If I put it in sport mode it felt like I was seriously being burned. I guess it’s because of the water cooled setup but I’m not sure why. My new road glide has no heat issues yet. I traded my FTR for the road glide so I can’t do a side by side comparison and wouldn’t anyway because they’re vastly different bikes. I would love to do what you did and have a few different bikes in my stable but I don’t even have a garage.

    Beautiful machine... Indian is doing a great job. HD needs the competition. If my 3rd and current HD SG goes south, I am going to consider an Indian. My only concern is the lack of dealerships. I am sure that will improve over time. Is this a dry or wet oiling system? How does this suspension compare to the new CVO you rode? That charging plug should also be on all HDs. Not a floppy plug next to the saddlebag. The best part is the engine, which is water cooled. HD needs to pay attention. I don't like the HD kickstand. It always feels skeptical shy to me. It took a while to get used too. They make the throttle that way in sport mode so you can maintain control of the bike. The radiator fans are most likely blowing hot air onto you. My Kawasaki water cooled engine did the same thing. Great review. Thanks :-)

    Thank you for the in depth video! I’m a retired LEO motor and still riding my 2000 HD Road King Classic with 104,000 miles. I’m seriously considering purchasing a new, 2022 Pursuit Limited. The pricing at $23,000 given all of the creature comforts that are standard on the Indian, HD doesn’t even offer.
    I’m torn between the Pursuit Limited and the Ultra. I’m only 6’2”, but felt cramped on the Ultra. The steep seat had me in a further forward position and seemed as though I was darn near on top of the bottom edge of the tank. The lowers restricted me from sliding my feet further forward as I’m able to do on my Road King.
    Does the Pursuit seat make you sit further forward as I experienced with the Ultra and do the lowers allow for the rider to shift your foot position further forward or under the lowers?
    I did watch a video where the new owner discussed the excessive heat you mentioned. He said the heat issue eventually dissipated and cleared up on its own after the break in period. Hopefully it cleared up for you as well.
    Thank you for the great information, John. I’ve subscribed and look forward to seeing your other videos.

    At first, I started not to watch this video. Only because I know you're a Harley guy 😂. But know your background. I should at least listen. Living in the BX, we already know it's not many cruisers. I've nothing but Indian motorcycle. When I retired and moved to VA, is when I brought my first motorcycle. Wanted a Harley but customer service sXxk!! When and brought a Indian Roadmaster. Great motorcycle, but I couldn't take the heat!! Traded that in for a 2020 challenger. Never had an issue with heat unless it was super hot outside. With that being said, I ordered the lowers. Didn't realize the difference until the second week of July. It's so hot that I couldn't ride the bike over 80 degrees day. Took the lower off and a much better as far as heat. Coming from a Roadmaster, I was used to the tour pack. To keep a long too long. Everything you touch on is 1000% true. I hope Indian address these concerns

    Nice looking Indian bike and the Elite are the best for sure! I test rode both the Indian Challenger and the Indian Chieftain. I ended up with the Indian Chieftain as I felt better fitted on it. After talking to several people I would like to point out that many are saying if you are under 6' then the Indian Chieftain fits them better and if over 6' then the Challenger fits them better. I am 5'9" so probably why the Indian Chieftain fit me better. Either way, I love my 2024 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse but again yours looks awesome too! I think Indian motorcycles are jsut superior to the Harleys in so many ways.

But love the engine, trans, ride and handling. Not sure if the 2023's ECU has been cracked yet. But if it has look at getting the ECU flashed by Hoonies or Llyodz. Really adds to the over all performance of the bike. Nice color choice on that Challenger. In 2020 there were very limited color choices. Glad to see Indian did something about that. I'm sure you buy your bikes for your pleasure but also to make content for the channel, but there were a lot of things about the bike that you don't like so I'm surprise you purchase it. Keep saving lives bro

      Remember I started the video by saying none of the things that I wasn’t crazy about were deal breakers. The pros far outweigh the cons.

    Nice review.
    I ride a 2013 Vic XC. That bikes daddy!
    97k on it, probably a Persuit in my near future!

    Looking forward to what handlebars you end up getting. I switched to the Indian Mid rise and they still are not fully comfortable for small turns at slow speeds. Update us on what you end up getting with some links. Thanks for what you do as your videos help me ride more confident. Ride fast, yet safe!

    for my challenger i had to get the kst Lakota bars to bring them closer and they are also narrower than factory. a regular jack will lift it fine i use a harbor freight fine with it it just tilts to one side some people say u can crush the brake lines but they are above the frame level so you would have to miss the frame to hit them.

    The bike looks really nice but the fact about jacking it up is a major issue to me. Anyway as usual great video. Apparently that bike is limited as far as customizable .. looks like Harley's 2023 CVO copied the Indian..Thanks

    i am planning on purchasing in the near future. after seeing your review of the trunk (gaps and flip forward hinge), I may go with the challenger instead and go aftermarket for the trunk when the need arises.

    I really appreciate your overview of the bike. I watched your video on the wobble as well. I just picked up my bike on Friday. I'll be taking it in this Friday for the 500 mile service. I can't get my front wheel steering lock to work. I found an online webpage that says to turn the wheel fully to the left and then turn the steering wheel key counter clockwise to engage. Mine doesn't do anything. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

    Who ever told you that you can’t use a normal jack was wrong. Yes a 2x4 block on all corners is needed but like the Roadmaster you can lift the whole bike.

    This is my first time looking at your channel. I was looking at this motorcycle online and thought it looked really stunning, so went looking for reviews. I think I saw a thumbnail that you've sold it already, though, is that right? Did you find a better bike?
    Did you ever ride the Victory Vision? That was another stunning cruiser.

    Excellent review, very comprehensive - thank you! I'm looking at a new Pursuit or the new CVO Road Glide. One of the main things I want is to be able to lift the bike up for cleaning, and it appears this may be an issue for the Pursuit. I don't know about the CVO, and I don't think the CVO's are available for test rides either - understandable, but unfortunate. Looking forward to seeing your comparison of this to your new CVO!

    When you stated it’s a hot bike to ride, and heat management is poor, you reinforced my decision to buy a 2013 Honda Goldwing six speed. The Indian is a sharp looking ride but can’t perform like the wing. Fit and finish is a Harley specialty, but so is high costs.
