- recently i've been playing all the mainline mario karts and the booster course pass, (mostly the booster course pass,) and i realized how tired i became of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's roster- so i got the idea to make a roster for the next mainline game!

Honestly thanks for not being the kind of person to turn the game into Smash Kart. I love crossovers, but I don't think Mario Kart needs that. I'd rather if they had to do that, they make a separate, deeper racing game with the whole Nintendo cast and fitting guest stars like Sonic, with more personalized stats and special abilities. That being said I doubt it'd ever happen mostly due to the fact it will for sure sell worse than normal Mario Kart, lol.
I feel like they'll just make Crossover characters DLC, just like in the original MK8
I honestly really like this roster, and I definitely appreciate the Monty Mole representation. As a side idea, though, why not introduce a WarioWare character? I know you’re avoiding other franchise characters, but, hey, Donkey Kong characters are on the roster, so there’s no harm in another Mario-adjacent series getting representation. Most people would say Ashley would work best, but personally, I’m thinking Jimmy T. or Orbulon would make for a tasteful addition to the roster.
hmm, personally was never a fan of the warioware designs, but looking at orbulon's design, it's really something we've never seen in mario kart and it seems simple and clean enough to star alongside other racers in mario kart!

I would of accepted Big Bully only if Spike (the mario enemy, not the guy from Wrecking Crew) was in the rooster too. My man needs more representation: other than the two Mario games no one plays, Mario Party 10 and Mario Tennis Aces, my man has never appeared as a playable character, and I think he deserves it. Other than that, I think this rooster is pretty good.
Now that you mention it I think Foreman Spike should return as well, he is going to be in the Mario movie so why not
1:42 I really hope for this too! I think it'd be neat if they used a lot of the designs they made for Mario Kart Tour as alternate costumes since the designs already exist and some of them look pretty nice. And since they're just extra costumes it shouldn't take up any slots.
5:00 I agree and I honestly want Paratroopa back. It was really cool playing as a koopa with wings and Paratroopa was my main in Mario Kart Double Dash along with Toadette ^^

The good news is that a lot of these newcomers are actually already in Mario Kart Tour which is developed partly by the main Mario Kart team, so anyone in that game is definitely on their radar (Pauline, Nabbit, Dixie Kong, Kamek, King Bob-omb, etc. to name a few). Not to mention already bringing back fan favorites like Funky Kong and Petey Piranha.
Also I find it interesting that you keep saying how the game needs more elderly reps but don't suggest Cranky Kong

I really liked your take on this!! The characters were diverse, but all mesh well together in the mario universe. And I loved the idea of having all these unlockable characters and costumes because it would add so much more unique replayability!! This was a really nice watch!
This is a really good roster and I agreed with a lot of the picks! With that being said, I feel like a few more enemies could have been added. The ones I have in mind are hammer bro, spike, and piranha plant. Hammer bro would have the option to switch to his boomerang, fire, or ice costume. Also, if piranha plant is able to fit perfectly in as a fighter in Smash, then I think a Mario Kart inclusion would be perfectly fine. Also, one more thing... the piantas from Super Mario Sunshine should 100% be added to Mario Kart (and it would be funny if they had costumes that changed them to the mafia suits from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door)!!!
The mario 64 "miracle" sound effect playing after an incredibly specific trigger then unlocking Lakithunder is absolutely genius, it'd feel special and I'd care about the character if that was his entrance

First place as Bowser in Bowsers Castle unlocks Dry Bowser
First as Mario in Mario Circuit unlocks Metal Mario
The only thing I would honestly change about your selected roster would be for Waluigi and Daisy to be available from the start, since 10 contestants per race would be a perfect middle ground between the traditional stability of the 8-position races most titles in the series and the 12-position chaos of MKW/ MK8.
As for the requirements for the unlock-able characters, I’ve got some ideas of how you’d go around getting them:
Waluigi - As Wario, collect at least 50 coins in a single race and get a podium position.
Metal Mario - Knock off or drive as Mario from the track into liquid metal.
King Boo - Steal an item from Luigi via the Boo item.
Dry Bowser - Knock off or drive as Bowser from the track into lava.
Petey Piranha - Run into 6 consecutive racers with the Piranha Plant item in a single race.
Funky Kong - Glide in the air for at least 10 seconds in a single race.
Dixie Kong - Knock down at least 5 consecutive obstacles with the Raccoon Leaf item in a single race.
Mii - Unlock every other character and place 1st with at least an A Rank in all 150cc cups
Baby characters - As Mario, Luigi, Peach or Daisy, get hit with the Lightning item 5 times in any cup to unlock that respective character’s baby counterpart.
Although you didn’t delve too much into the topic, I’ve also got some concepts for the unlock-able outfits each racer would have (8 for each character):
Mario: Classic, Fire Flower, Famicom Grand Prix, NES Open Tournament Golf, Mario’s Picross, Super Mario 64 model, Post-Game Complete Super Mario Sunshine outfit, Super Mario Maker.
Luigi: Classic, Fire Flower, Famicom Grand Prix, NES Open Tournament Golf, Luigi’s Mansion, Super Mario Galaxy model, Penguin Suit, Gooigi model.
Wario: Monochrome, SML3, WarioWare, Master Of Disguise, Mario Strikers, WarioWare Snapped, WarioWare DIY, Mario Tennis Aces.
Bowser: Classic, DiC, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario 64, Luigi’s Mansion, Dark Bowser (M&L: TIS), N3DS Kisekae Plate outfit, Fury Bowser (BF).
In total, this is a great video especially from such a small channel.
i actually really love the metal mario and dry bowser ones- knocking off a CPU Bowser/Mario into nearby Lava/Liquid Metal will yield you with their respective characters. driving off course as either bowser or mario into lava/metal i feel is way too easy.

The only problem with the 8 starting racers is that, when you play with CPUs when you first get the game, then there cant be 12 racers, only 8. And this could bring an advantage to the player during gameplay. But I do still like your idea!
Yeah, Daisy, Waluigi and shy guy/toadette/baby mario should definitely have been starting characters, and koopa should’ve returned to be the 4th starter.

I would love to add NPCs from main games, like Piantas, the Wood guys from Galaxy and their funny sounds and all the new NPC species from Odyssey, I would leave stuff like red bobombs as an skin for the king bobomb.

I really enjoyed your ideas for the unlock mechanic, it was one of my favorite parts of games like smash melee and mario kart wii. Modern spinoffs, while fun, have nothing in terms of discovery which is something I really liked with the older games.

I myself am a big Koopaling fan, so seeing them here is nice, but a idea for the Koopalings, maybe they are all one characters, like the inkling's or Link, I feel like that would be the best way to handle them as many people still appreciate and like them. That way they only take up one slot instead of 7. Also, I find it funny how some of these characters like monty mole, chargin chuck, and hammer bro are in tour, and Kamek is in 8 now, so many of these could acually happen in the next game. Good video. Loved it.

Always loved bruiser but I haven’t thought about some of those NSMB bosses in a while, thanks for reminding me to replay it.
Also love the idea of unique challenges to unlock characters. Hated how unlocking was simplified in 8 and all but removed in Deluxe. Maybe for bruiser you would have to bump a racer lighter than you enough times in one race then finish in 1st.

This is a great list, however there is one character that I’ve always wanted, Lubba from Super Mario Galaxy 2.
It would be cool to see a lubba themed alt for luma.

I popped off when I heard E.Gadd and Toadsworth (guess I like playing as old people) so I'm gonna give them unlock conditions just because.
E.Gadd: Play as Luigi and defeat 3 boos in 1 race, boos would come from a Luigi's Mansion stage like the one in Mario Kart 8. They could be obstacles in the stage that you could defeat by using a star. Or the single player mode could have a mission level in the Luigi's Mansion stage where the goal is defeating a portrait boss and beating the stage unlocks E.Gadd.
Toadsworth: Play as toad and use the triple mushroom to give princess peach a boost, this would only work in single player since we don't want people throwing online/co-op games just to unlock a character.

I‘d love Plessie to be in to join Yoshi and Birdo as another dino-like. Another one would be Captain Syrup from WarioLand 1&2 as female villains are sorely lacking in most Mario rosters. Also she’s a cool pirate! But the other choices all include my other choices. Those being mainly Pauline, E Gadd, the Sprixies and Nabbit.
i was actually looking into captain syrup as a potential member of the roster since i always hear a mention of her in other people's fan rosters, but i decided against it as i feel like her character design has a little overlap with modern pauline imo, the same "vibe," if you will.
This is acctually a really cool roster, kinda sad there wasn't any warioware representation tho
Thanks for including Monty Mole as a playable character in the fanmade Mario Kart 9 roster. Monty Mole technically did become a playable character in a Mario Kart in the mobile spinoff Mario Kart Tour so it does make sense on why they could be added since Mario Kart Tour did give them some love. Monty Mole was playable all the way back in 2005-2008 with Mario Superstar Baseball as well as Mario Strikers Charged and Mario Super Sluggers as well. They did take a decade long break from being playable until 2018 with Super Mario Party of you were wondering. Also, it would be cool to see like the Monty Tank tank like as an unlockable since it would be a great callback. Rocky Wrench could also be a Monty Mole costume since they also are a part of the same species and were in Mario Kart as well in Airship Fortress. One small thing to note, the render you unused for Monty Tank was fan art but that is kind of a minor nitpick.
I think I would be so cool to have sonic the hedgehog as a character but as like dlc, he would have his own weight class and wouldn't have a cart and would just run beside the carts :) sonic is really cool

I like that you've chosen characters that celebrate obscure branches of the mario series, like fawful. I think Captain Syrup would be a really good choice in line with this. She's sort of Wario's only recurring villain, and she's generally an under-utilised character.
I like this roster a lot! One thing: I'd think the roster would start with 12 characters, seeing as there's 12 racers per race in most modern MK games. Also, now that the Mario Movie is huge, maybe Cranky Kong or Spike DO deserve some rep?

used to have 8, sold it for 8 deluxe, dont remember many differences from the og but APPARENTLY they had you battle on normal tracks, which would be perfect for intense battles or hide and seek

you could have some characters be unlocked by completing missions in a mission mode
you could like have a challenge against them and completing it unlocks them
some could even be boss battles like big bully and king Bob-omb
nice roster overall! i especially love the inclusion of fawful, i've always thought the mario rpg characters deserve representation before all those wild super smash kart ideas. like... we already have smash bros, i'd rather see some love for the niche mario characters out there. personally i've always wanted vivian, her design is really unique and she'd do a much better job at representing paper mario than a paper version of an already existing character or an enemy with a cool hat. also she'd be way easier to adapt into 3D than other fan favorites like bleck or dimentio
A challenge to get funky kong could be to do a certain amount of tricks during a race or hit a enemy with any type of item while doing a trick off a ramp or something

not enough RPG characters that 2 people know about, where's my girl goombella??? great roster picks tho! if mk9 was on the switch (it wont be i know) you could unlock cappy like how you unlocked rosa in mkwii by having an odyssey savefile.
also i LOVE what you did with the mkwii background footage at 1:10 (and other spots). what sort of effects do you use for that? it looks so trippy and i really dig it
honestly, was never really a fan on how they handled rosalina being unlocked in mkwii. i probably wouldn't want that here.
as for the footage, i used a combination of gaussian blur, wave warp, and i went crazy on the HLS color spectrum ! i used adobe pro premiere :) have fun !

I’d say Koopa Freerunner from Mario Odyssey would be a better pick for a new unique Koopa. Also I’d like to mention my most wanted character that wasn’t on this roster. Penguin from Super Mario 64, but specifically one with a swim cap which exists in Super Mario Galaxy

Get hit by the background enemies 7 times.
To unlock Walugi beat Mushroom cup on 100cc as Wario.
To unlock funky kong play as DK and hit 7 bananas on any DK themed track.
To unlock charging chuck
Pick a super heavy character and mow down all racers with the bullet bill.
To unlock toads worth play as toad and stay in last place until the last lap and win first place.
While I think this hypothetical roster has a few too many literally who characters, I appreciate the Mario characters only roster, even though adding DKC characters undermines this sentiment a little bit. I'm definitely maining Nabbit.

IMO I definitely feel like it’s fair for DKC characters to be an exception. DK characters have always been in Mario Kart, from DK Junior in the original to DKC Donkey Kong in every following installment. Meanwhile Non-DKC/Mario Characters is only a thing in 8 (and Arcade versions and probably tour too)

If you happen to hit a Goomba in anyway, you unlock Goomboss.
hmmm, i feel like that wouldn't be too challenging- just run into a goomba and there. maybe hitting a goomba in the racetrack with a bullet bill or green shell would unlock goomboss.
You unlock funky Kong by taking all of the shortcuts in one cup
I have some ideas for those wacky missions:
Petey piranha: bite 5 people with 1 piranha plant
Nabbit: steal a triple mushroom with the boo item
Koopa the quick: get 3 stars on 200cc
Baby Peach: win your first cup in 100cc
Baby Luigi: win your first cup in 150cc
Baby Daisy: win your first cup in mirror mode
Baby Mario: win your first cup in 200cc
King goomba or whatever he's called i forgor: kill a goomba
Bully: knock someone off the track
King boo: become 1st place while still in your boo form
Waluigi: have 3 stars on all cups, 100cc
Diddy Kong: break a banana
King bob omb: break a bob omb
Boom Boom: knock someone off the track 5 times
Dixie Kong: break 10 bananas
King K. Rool: break 50 bananas
