    thanks for the video but I strongly recommend that you put the bi-pods on a soft surface and I'll bet you you'll get tighter groupings.

    I really enjoyed the video. the scenery is breathtaking!
    I bought a sako 85 finnlight in 300 win mag, and put a zeiss HD5 on it for long range. about to get it dialed in. might swap to a used swarovski Z5, if I can land it cheap.
    Mounts are a pain. I absolutely HATE the optilocks. Just HATE them. soooooo heavy, I don't like the all the moving parts, or the inserts. I ordered some Conetrol, but they were backed up for about a year. ready now, so I , may upgrade. I'm here in the USA, but my other option was to have the gun drilled for a regular mount too, like talley or DNZ.
    Thanks again for the video.

      Cameron Crivelli Thanks, enjoy your new Sako! the recoil of a light rifle like a Finnlight in .300 win mag must be something!

    UPDATE: I finally decided upon a 6.5 Creedmoor Browning X-Bolt Pro, very equivalent to the SAKO Carbonlight - except for the price, that is!

    Nice video !
    You have read my mind, Im on the same path as you now..
    Im going to buy a sako Syn SS but I dont like their barrel lenghts, maybe I'll change the barrel for a Proof CF. 26"
    I also have Blaser R93 and R8, and love them, but cant hunt with them in rough terrain...
    There are some CF stocks for the R93 it's a pitty they are so expensive...

      My 19.4" Sako barrel seems to work - have shot deer to 550m and targets past 1km.

    Imminently more sensible gentleman !
    Half the weight, half the price, just as accurate, serviceable in the field, more reliable feed system, and it will take the knocks in the field.
    But best of all ...... No one has to eat a bolt ! ;)

    • @PATHFilmsNZ
      @PATHFilmsNZ  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ace Precision Can't agree with all of that - except the weight!

    • @aceprecision1681
      @aceprecision1681 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      PATHFilmsNZ Yep, I completely undestand. I felt exactly the same way about my Blasers, till a friend had his 338 Lap discharge out of battery at the Little River range last year.
      He ate the bolt, and was still lucky enough to be able to talk about it.
      I'm now quite happy with Sako's and Tikka's.
      Cheers

    What is the product number for the Atlas Bipod Rail you mounted? Did you have a gunsmith drill the additional hole? Looking to do the same to my Sako 85. Thanks!

    I am currently looking into a Finnlight and have seen some people in forums discussing the durability of this rifle. Their argument is based on how the action is mounted to the stock and that overtime it can become an accuracy robber. Do you believe there is any validity to this argument? Or has Sako done their job?

    • @PATHFilmsNZ
      @PATHFilmsNZ  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tundra Taiga I haven't seen any issues of the sort.

    Great channel and videos! I recently purchased a Sako 85 260 no suppressor and about to start hand loading. Do you have a load you would recommend as a starting point. Quarry is Red and Fallow deer out to 400m. Cheers

      I recommend ADI 2209 (H4350) powder and a 140gr Amax/ELD or 143gr ELDX as a good combination. Work up to suit your rifle. Good luck!

    I am looking seriously at the this rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. Planning to top off the Finnlight with the Vortex Razor AMG, one of the lightest, long range, high quality scopes available. If I don't get it in 6.5 CM I'll wait until they make it in 6.5 PRC.
    Currently I have a VERY accurate Ruger American Predator in 6.5 CM but the damn bolt will not lock when loaded and on safe. I have lost two cartridges while carrying the RAP in my Kifaru Gun Bearer carrier when the RAP's bolt opened unnoticed. NOT a good design. In a conversation with Ruger Customer Service the company has no plans to correct this problem. I think I will be selling my upgraded RAP (Boyd's Classic laminated stock and Timney trigger) to get the Finnlight in 6.5 CM.
    I'm sure the Finnlight will give me every bit as much accuracy as the Ruger. I do love 3 lug bolt action rifles as attested by my .300 Win mag Browning A-Bolt and 6.5 CM Ruger Precision Rifle as well as the soon-to-be-sold 6.5 CM RAP.

    • @PATHFilmsNZ
      @PATHFilmsNZ  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the Finnlight is a much higher quality rifle than the Ruger. The safety locks the bolt also.

    • @ericb.4358
      @ericb.4358 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're keerect PATH, but lately Ruger has made some VERY accurate rifles with their cold hammer forged barrels. It's just amazing that I cannot 1/2" groups at 100 yards with my "el cheapo" 6.5 Creedmoor Ruger American Predator using Hornady match ammo. I'm sure Sako rifles are equally accurate.

    Hi there. I was wondering what the main motivation for the after market rail was. My Finnlight 260 with optilocks zero is near the top of the elevation turret with a tactical scope and I could benefit from a 20moa adjustment down. Just wondering if this was the same reason you went for the rail? Cheers

    • @PATHFilmsNZ
      @PATHFilmsNZ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Optilock 34mm rings are quite heavy, and don't allow downward cant. The S&B PMII requires 6.5mil of downward cant to have full elevation travel available.

    Is the Sako 85 drilled an tapped out of the box ?
    Or did a gunsmith some work on it ?
    And what can you tell me according to quality precision and general felling of the gun ?
    Iam struggling between a R8 and a Sako 85 with GRS Stock.
    Not for LR shooting. For hunting. Also a lot of driven game. What do you think ?
    Thx. all the best, Max (BCB)

    • @PATHFilmsNZ
      @PATHFilmsNZ  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BushcraftBear It's not drilled and tapped from the box, I had it done. It's an excellent rifle and significantly lighter than an R8

      Azzie Blankenship See film 17! consistently sub-moa for 5 shots, I have settled on a load with 140amax at 2700fps, does approx .6 to .7 moa for 5 shots consistently.

    Is it still possible to load a cartridge from the top when the picatinny rail is mounted directly on the action?

    • @PATHFilmsNZ

    Hi, Where did you get the 34 mm sako optilocks? I'm looking at purchasing the same scope for my Sako 85... Also do you get enough elevation from your turrets to shoot at longer ranges using the optilocks? Cheers.

    • @PATHFilmsNZ
      @PATHFilmsNZ  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Pwoorbastard Ordered through local store from Beretta NZ. They're insanely expensive. I'd recommend getting a Waitaki engineering canted rail and using some 34mm picatinny rings instead. I don't use the Optilocks having got a rail, but I didn't get enough adjustment with them.

    • @PATHFilmsNZ

    Do you still have your Sako 75? What are your initial thoughts on the 75 vs the 85?

    • @PATHFilmsNZ
      @PATHFilmsNZ  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Novak75b Yes, currently do still have it. They're much the same functionally, the 85 action has been slimmed down a little.

    • @Novak75b
      @Novak75b 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      PATHFilmsNZ Yeah, I've read that the "controlled round feed" of the 85 still functions much like a push feed. I've met a couple of guys that don't like the magazine latch design on the 85 (as compared to the 75). Have you found it to be adequate?

    • @PATHFilmsNZ
      @PATHFilmsNZ  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The controlled round feed is a non-issue to me, as long as it feeds (which it does...) as I'm not hunting dangerous game etc. The 85 magazine requires a little upward pressure before it will release - it's designed to prevent accidental release and loss. Can be removed with 10 seconds on the mag catch if you don't like it.... I don't mind it, I've never lost a mag but it also doesn't make it much slower to change them.
