I have the briefly made Eliminator ii in 3-10×40. Actually very much enjoy owning it - lives on my 17hmr. Very nice to see the exact range and the auto holdover really makes a difference on small targets like rabbits. Does have its limitations - appalling in the twilight with much internal flaring.
Excellent review mate, love the no bs attitude. You deserve stacks more views stick at it mate, helping your fellow Aussies to get an Aussie perspective and experience, feels a lot more relevant 👍🏻
Really good review, it's more or less what I expected, I must say I was surprised at the performance ( or lack of it ) from the Burris scope. I do, however, agree that the Sako demands that you spend almost as much for the optic too. I have a Tikka T3 Lite, and this is about where I want to be with a good shooting rifle. Sako is more gun than I would use, as primarily I collect and target shoot. I always look forward to your reviews, I have to tell you, because I know that even though you're shooting on what looks to be farm land, there's no BS in your reviews. Cheers
+Reg Sparkes Thanks Reg, I pride myself on doing honest but fair reviews and I don't get paid by companies for favourable reviews etc, so I value my independence as it is what I feel has built my credibility since starting my channel...
Thanks for the review, really interesting. As for the accuracy, I have found Sako rifles are quite sensitive when it comes to types of ammunition used. Find the right combo and it will shoot sub MOA all day, use the wrong combo and it can get quite ugly. keep up the good work.
Choice is endless... however I'd be looking at a lightweight setup because you're not going to be wanting to lug a heavy varmint or long range rifle around when stalking game. So something in a hunting configuration with a 1" lightweight scope. I high recommend the Trijicon 3-9x40 accupoint for this...
Like you sort of mentioned, a piece of gear like that needs something like a Zeiss 6-24x50 or a Swarovski Z6i 5-30x50 with pre-set range turrets on them instead of that Burris. And premium ammo of course. Thank you for an unbiased review and the video of a somewhat rare beast of a rifle. Greetings from Finland! :)
I don’t like the caliber specific turrets as if it’s 20° cooler or warmer than when they made them, they’re not accurate. If the air pressure that day is slightly off, they’re not right. If your ammo was sitting in the sun or is colder than that day, they’re off. It’s better to just get regular Mil turrets or moa turrets, have a little card that says what you dial in for, and then if conditions are not the same you can just change a couple of clicks. It also dramatically increases the resale value of the scope if you ever sell it. I think a 5.5-22 Nightforce NXS would look beautiful on this rifle but that’s my opinion and I’m partial to Nightforce. I never really liked the Swarovski’s I looked through and Ziess has good glass but poor turrets and the Swarovski has nice glass but it looked weird and the turrets don’t feel like they’ll be repeatable. Schmidt is nice, but my eyes liked the Nightforce better. Some eyes have different opinions though, many people prefer the Schmidt glass.
has about a $1,600 msrp here in the US! Definitely a great rifle! :D a winchester model 70 is still my dream gun. Thank you for your videos, you inspired me to visit Australia one day! (:
Good honest review. I've had similar issues with rangefinders when it comes to accurately detecting objects at their labelled/suggested max ranges. As for the rifle I have a mate who bought the Sako XL long range in 338LM & he has a S&B PMII 5-25x56mm on it & I can say I expected more from the accuracy but it did tighten up considerably when he put more work on the load. I tend to find with my own TRG that my groups are a consistent 100m). It starts to come into it's own at longer distances.
+MrSakoTRG Thanks for the info mate, I appreciate that... it interesting to hear that because that is similar to how I found it to be. That scope (the S&B PMII 5-25x56mm) is exactly the type of quality that I would be putting on such a fine rifle if I owned one personally...
+Babay Bluegill Thanks buddy, I greatly appreciate the feedback... I will never bash companies, I will simply point out the positives and negatives of any product on exactly how it has performed for me. I believe that this is what has built my credibility so far and I aim to continue doing just that... thanks again for your comment!
A friend of mine hunts with that Burris scope. He basically said the same thing. It's good for about 700 yards. After that it just doesn't work that good. But he's got his load dialled right on, and makes first round kills out to 700 yards with that set up. And he loves it. It's not really a long range target scope. But for hunting I've seen him take some huge elk with one shot, right to the vitals out past 5-600 yards. And it's fast to set the shot up.
Imo it speaks highly of the scope with all that info they have prepared and provide the owner with all the relevant info for what they want/need is also really cool of them to do. Cinda like the safty feature on the bolt on the gun. And the distance and wind speed is really cool the scope can do that. Thought that was a thing video games made up. Maby the range finding part of the scope have trouble with grater distances? Could also be the time of day and/or weather with how much or little light there is. And in well lit area or shaded?
Good review mate can't wait to see you get your hands on a black wolf 🤞 I love the idea of this scope, to my understanding Swarovski are doing a version of this scope which should be awesome!
great review please do more of the same long rang shooting was awesome been waiting to see a review on the sako long range. how about some remington rifles next
A bypod off of a plywood table might be the 100 yard accuracy problem with a high recoil rifle . Have a crack with a front sand bag while shooting off of the table. I've always had issues with bypods and big recoil rifle on hard surfaces. Nice results at 500 . Cheers
So my good wife bought me a Sako 85s in 243 for my 50th last week. I’m looking at a Zeiss Victory HT 3-12x56 with ret #60 illuminated. I mostly spotlight for bunnies, cats and foxes and will use the rifle during the day on the Hay plains for longer shots. Can I have your thoughts on this scope and do you recommend others? Your reviews really leave the others seriously wanting! 👍🏻🍺
Great video mate, appreciate it, but if I could make a suggestion. For the price of a few rounds of that 300 Win. you could purchase a high quality fur windscreen for your microphone. It will make a huge difference recording during breezy conditions.
I have the tikka t3 super varmint in 300winmag with no muzzle break and the Burris Eliminator 3 using remington 150gr corelock factory loads. It will shoot better than i can with sub inch groups at 200yds and coke can accuracy at 600yds off the bench. You should also note the range finding ability is stated at 750yds max and thats obviously under perfect conditions. It is also a medium range hunting scope not a long range target scope. The twist rate is also better suited to heavier bullet weights but more time behind the trigger would have been better for groups.
Have you consid doing groups @ 200 yards instead of 100? Sometimes 100 yds isn't th best indicator in my experience. I have a 308 that has shot sub moa @ 2&300 yds, where as it shoots 1" @ 100. Great video
I was looking for one and salesman ask me what you going to shoot? I said a rabbit! Hehe good review mate well done. I just wonder is it big recoil on 338 lapua magnum?
Really odd, I run a Swarovski Z3 on my Sako 85 and with federal .308 I grouped 1/2 inch at 100 yards quite easily. It must be the scope letting you down.
I’m looking for a scope for my 85s in 243 mostly for spotlighting but I will take longer shots in daylight. Is the swaro a 30mm tube? I’m leaning toward Zeiss Victory 3-12x56. Thoughts?
Another great honest review! A little off the topic but what was the recoil like with that muzzle break? I have a tikka t3 super light in 300wm and considering a muzzle break!
+Evan McGrillen Yeah I could understand why you'd be considering one mate :), the recoil was fine, more like a 308 to be honest, maybe even less, I was expecting a lot more put it that way, but they have made the rifle well in that regard, it was a pleasure to shoot!
thank you, very good video , I'm thinking of buying this model , however I've been researching the Legendary Arms Works , Professional, same caliber 300WM , what about this brand ?
In theory if your group was 1.5in at 100yds, it should be 7.5in at 500yds but that 500yd group looked fantastic. Only one slightly to the left. Do you know roughly what the group size at 500yds was? Perhaps the 100yd group didn't do the rifle justice.
+tilley3rar No mate, that gong was a large 800m gong so it's a little deceiving on film (it was a new STS target that I had received just for the review), the group was over 5-6" roughly...
ozziereviews I have found that the weak point with the Sako's is the Optilock mounting system. Specifically, magnum calibers with heavy scopes. Mine was shooting terribly. I tried various rings, multiple trips to the gunsmith, and every type of ammunition I could find. I even sent the scope (NXS 3.5X15) back to Nightforce. Upon NF's recommendation, I had the receiver drilled and tapped for standard mount and rings. Since then, the rifle shoots less than 1 MOA with any ammo I've tried. Not saying that's what was going on here, but it seems possible. Like you, I certainly expected more from a Sako. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of the Optilock mounts. But I still love Sako rifles. P.S. Great reviews. Love the channel.
Nice review Ozzie.Just a quick question if you dont mind ,I'm considering trading my sauer101 for the sako finlight. Do you know if the finlight is a good rifle as iv never had a sako.I just thought i would ask your opinion as I think you have some credibility. Thanks.Mick
+kaistigerboy I've never used the finlight but I have used a couple of Sako 85s now and I find them very high quality, but honestly, why would you want to sell your Sauer? Surely it's accurate??
ozziereviews fantastic thanks mate. I read on a few forums and have seen on a few videos an upward motion making the casing clash against the scope tube and it was worrying me a little. Maybe they sorted this out already.
+Jayden Mallinson No, a firearm capable of chambering a 50BMG in QLD is a Cat R firearm. Check the Weapons Regulations 1996. Of course a chamber that was cut 1mm shorter on the neck so it couldn't chamber 50BMG but could only chamber specially made 50 wildcat cartridges would be legal. QLD weapons licensing is a bit funny about approving PTA's for higher caliber rifles though, there are a few ranges that have the profiles to shoot them though that can provide the justification.
I have this in the 338 lapua , got it for $2,199.99 .... I havent even shot it yet because I have to zero it with the scope and the way ammo is hard to find right now I dont want to waste any... Damn shame
I have the eliminator 2, absolutely hate it the weight of it and the reticle. Only gun it’s actually cool on is the .22. Where it gives the hold over out till about 170m or so. But to put it on any centrefire just ruins the gun
I bought this exact model rifle and it was defective. The problem is that the rear dovetail is not aligned with the front one, I found this out when I tried mounting my sig scope. I’m sending it in next week so it can be fixed. Has anyone else had the same problem?
I do own 2 Sako 85 rifles, the Bavarian version in 8x57JS with a swarovski Z4i 2,5-10x56 and the Finnlight in 6,5x55 with a swarovski z6i 1,7-10x42. If I ever had groups like this I would have sold them right away.....So there is something terribly wrong with your setup. My 8mm goes for 16mm groups with handloads/ 19mm with factory ammo (Brenneke TAG) and the 6,5x55 goys around the same groups. I feel like blaming this on this Burris "Scope"....
I sent it back to Beretta Australia and even they couldn't get it to group to the MOA guarantee with that Sako ammo I was using, but they said they could do it fine with other Sako ammo. Still for me that's not good enough, when you're spending this amount on a setup it should be shooting with the results that you're talking about...
I noticed that when you shoot, you immediately release your trigger finger after the shot. That is a bad habit for accurate shooting. Try to relax and keep the finger where it is after the shot for about a second and you will see your groups will be a lot tighter. Just a well meant tip, not criticizing.
great review me and a few of my mate have used sako factory ammo its rubbish compared to the aussie ammo . Sako is just another name brand compared to others. a few of my mates own Howa 308 varmint they shoot .5 inch groups with factory rounds at a 1/4 the price of Sako.i don't see the value of sako but a name. just my opinion
Thanks for the honesty. I have just decided not to buy this rifle. A 2000 USD rifle that shoots 1.7moa at 100 yards with premium ammunition? hell no...
Get a Steyer pro Varmit in 223 it's at cleavers but it's listed as a Steyer Pro Hunter Varmit it would be a pro hunter sypher0101itch a Varmit barrel and bolt
Yeah I don't mind them, but if I'm asked what is the best, I say Schmidt & Bender. I have a few of them and the glass quality and precision is first class, although Khales and Swarovski as also very good...
Face it, that Sako 85 did not shoot well. Don't blame the scope or speculate on what it might do with a better scope, stick to the data you have. You have reviewed a number of Sako 85's in various configurations now, and mostly you have to find excuses for how disappointing they are, given their price and boasts. My 85 Finnlight in 7mm08 doesn't shoot well either. It is very nice to handle, the bolt is smooth as silk, but it cannot group below 1inch in my hands with all the many factory and hand loads I have tried.
Honestly one of the nastiest looking scopes i have ever seen haha would love to see a high quality scope on this Sako it deserves it.
Yes I don't like the scope...
why you dont like scope?
I have the 338 long range..topped it with a schmidt 3-27×56. Whatever u spend on your rifle, times 2 on the glass
Maybe because Sako is known for ejecting casings into the scope. So why put the best one on it?
Unless this particular rifle doesn’t do that.

I like your reviews it's obvious you don't fudge anything. Keep up the good work.
It upsets some people but that's the way it goes. The product gets reviewed exactly the way it is when I use it, cheers
Great review as always Ozzie. For a moment I thought I was watching Hunt for Red October seeing that submarine on top of that Sako!
Yeah I'm not a fan of it personally...
Scope or rifle?

Sure no problem
for over 4grand it should shoot a fly off a shit at 500yards with handloads

+samin8ter lol cool, it's a great Country for many reasons, we just need to sort our ridiculous gun laws out and we will be a lot better off!

great review please do more of the same long rang shooting was awesome been waiting to see a review on the sako long range. how about some remington rifles next
+Mark Marafioti I've done the Savage 308... I'll get some more done when I can...
Great review. Disappointed in the match of rifle to optic. Thanks Oz.
I️ can’t believe you put a Burris on that rifle. That thing deserves better
I didn't, that's the way it came from Beretta Australia and as I said in my wrap up, it's not something I'd do either...
A bypod off of a plywood table might be the 100 yard accuracy problem with a high recoil rifle . Have a crack with a front sand bag while shooting off of the table. I've always had issues with bypods and big recoil rifle on hard surfaces. Nice results at 500 . Cheers

You should try the new eliminator 6 same thing but looks like an ordinary scope
Great video mate, appreciate it, but if I could make a suggestion. For the price of a few rounds of that 300 Win. you could purchase a high quality fur windscreen for your microphone. It will make a huge difference recording during breezy conditions.
+jcotteri I'm looking at some new mics soon, I agree, I need to cut the wind out....
Great video
Thanks for the review. Its answered some questions I had regarding that scope.
+Les The Great No problem Les
Fantastic review as usual. Keep up the great work. It's appreciated!
+Mike Dee Thanks buddy
I was looking for one and salesman ask me what you going to shoot?
I said a rabbit!
Hehe good review mate well done.
I just wonder is it big recoil on 338 lapua magnum?
Yes the 338 has very heavy recoil hence why you will see 90% of those rifles with a muzzle brake...
Good video mate!
Well done!
+Mike Dee Thanks mate

great review not to much of B. S. talking I really liked it congratulations and greetings from Canada :)

thank you, very good video , I'm thinking of buying this model , however I've been researching the Legendary Arms Works , Professional, same caliber 300WM , what about this brand ?

Did you ever get it to group better? I was very displeased when I saw the group sizes. I know the gun should be capable of much better.
No, it should be capable of much better but it couldn't achieve the Sako MOA guarantee using the Sako ammunition...
ozziereviews I have found that the weak point with the Sako's is the Optilock mounting system. Specifically, magnum calibers with heavy scopes.

+ozziereviews Thanks
+kaistigerboy it's called the finnlight
nice review mate. did you consider Sako TRG in 300wm?
+Tod Orp No, this was what Beretta Australia had on offer to review...
Music killed this vid pretty quick. Cheers
Did you notice any issue with the ejector sending the spent cases right up into the scope instead of sideways out of the receiver?
No not at all
ozziereviews fantastic thanks mate. I read on a few forums and have seen on a few videos an upward motion making the casing clash against the scope tube and it was worrying me a little. Maybe they sorted this out already.
Pretty poor if it was considering the price, but I honestly didn't suffer that issue...
nice review mate :)
Thanks mate but I'm disappointed that it didn't perform within the 1 moa guarantee that Sako offer with their rifles and ammo combination...
mmm, what loads were you using? Says a lot for Burris haha.
You inspired me to make reviews btw :)
What loads? The exact ammo shown in the review...
I am curious what this gun can do with some handloads and a scope you like
I'm sure it'd be a whole different story...
I have one in 338 lapua . And it was roughly 2200 US dollars for me
Is 50 BMG legal in Queensland I know it's legal in NSW
+Jayden Mallinson No, a firearm capable of chambering a 50BMG in QLD is a Cat R firearm. Check the Weapons Regulations 1996.

Scope let you down mate... would be good if baretta could give you a decent scope to review the 85 with!
+Red Quoll Yeah, I like the concept but the scope wouldn't be my choice personally...
Still for me that's not good enough, when you're spending this amount on a setup it should be shooting with the results that you're talking about...
why not a nightforce nxs?
+nuggz4president Sure...
A 2000 USD rifle that shoots 1.7moa at 100 yards with premium ammunition? hell no...
Those puny bases - and the scope itself seem pretty dodgy, to be honest.
Get a Steyer pro Varmit in 223 it's at cleavers but it's listed as a Steyer Pro Hunter Varmit it would be a pro hunter sypher0101itch a Varmit barrel and bolt
Schultz and Larsen. Made in Denmark.
oh no... I need to change my underwear...
skip the musik please
Try NightForce scopes. Best scopes on the market.
Jesus, my!!! Tikka T3 Hunter shoots better! Leupold ftw.
