    I cannot stress the burn-in enough. I had my headset far into the room away from harm.... I thought... but with summer approaching a low hanging sun was able to penetrate across the whole room and into the lenses. two nasty burn marks. I have a HP Reverb G2, and HP replaced the headset without question... The thing was, although it is abundantly clear in hindsight. The HP Reverb came with absolutely no warning about the hazard of lenses and sunlight. (I have triple checked my original packaging. including the plastic lens covers. there's no warnings about this)

      Wow! Sorry to hear that friend! Yeah normally companies like to overexaggerate safety precautions, but in this case it is absolutely true. Have you managed to get a replacement?

    • @PixelShade
      @PixelShade 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DiscoVRTetiana yes! I have, it was very quick and I am super happy. But HP could've also declined the replacement calling it a "user error" and I would've had to go through the legal system due to them not providing warnings (which honestly normal people don't have money or time for).

    Top battery saving tip. Always turn off the headset when you're not using it. This will do much more than micromanaging the battery charge. The real reason charging your battery to 80% extends battery life is simple. A rechargable battery has a set number of times it can be recharged. This number is the same if you fully or partially charge the battery. By not fully charging, you're slightly extending the potential lifespan of the unit but not the battery. It will still lose charge faster and not charge fully at the same point. The total hours of use will be the same, but the user is spreading it out over a longer period of time. A user replaceable battery would be ideal since the headset doesn't need to be waterproof, or being able to use an external battery as the main power source would be a great option later in the life of the device.

    • @stevenw4549
      @stevenw4549 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not sure how of what you said is true since I've seen others saying the opposite of what you said. Some said you can leave it plugged in all the time due to advanced battery protection technology.

    • @donovan1345
      @donovan1345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @@stevenw4549 Yea, there have been battery tests on the quest 2, they fully drained and fully charged it full over and over 100,000s of times and the battery life dropped less than half a percent. The second test was keeping it plugged in all the time. Still after 10,000 hours straight, less than a percent. The third test was overcharging by leaving it on charging overnight/all day. After 10,000 hours, less than a percent. So if your battery loses less than 1% over 10,000 hours (that's about 416 days straight) I'd think you'd be fine doing whatever you want, lol.

    • @DFX2KX
      @DFX2KX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@stevenw4549 basically, it's 'Advance battery protection technology' is a standard modern Cellphone BMC (Battery Management Circuit). The actual capacity and the 'shown' capacity aren't the same, there's built in headroom on both ends to account for battery wear, and to extend the usable life of the battery. So the headset itself isn't charging the battery to maximum voltage when it says 100%, and at 0% charge actually has a decent safety margin left.
      Also, you'll get far more 20%-80% cycles out of a lithium cell then charging/discharging 0%-100%, provided the cell is decent. Like 3x-4x as many (40,000 vs about 10,000) to drop to 80% total capacity.
      Even fully discharging for every single charge is 20,000 or so hours. Even those long term tests are only just starting to touch where the wear becomes visible to the user. Fortunately, the Q2 isn't too hard to get into either, so you *can* replace the cell when it invariably goes belly-up as they all ultimately do. You'll be wayyyyy out of warranty by then, though.

    Follow the same steps with charging your smart devices as cell phones and other electronics.
    I average about three days to four days on one charge.

  • @Aspartame69
    @Aspartame69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I think the guardian system needs a fundamental change. Im always clipping into warning range when im not really that close to the walls. Realistically, the guardian system knows where the hmd is, and it should have a very good idea of your maximum arm reach. So you should be able to swing your controllers right up to the guardian boundary without it drawing, as long as your headset is in such a location so as to make reaching beyond the boundary impossible.

    • @DiscoVRTetiana
      @DiscoVRTetiana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I completely agree. Here's another tip, you actually can reduce the guardian sensitivity in the settings. I usually have it reduced to the minimum so that I have as much space without seeing the guardian as I can. Dangit, should've included it in the video 😀

    I enjoyed this video a lot. Very informative. Yeah, I've been making the mistake of setting my Guardian too close to the TV and and to walls in the living room, so I accidentally with my hand hit the TV and hit the windows twice playing "Super Hot VR", and luckily they didn't get broken. As for charging my Quest, I can't afford to charge for anything less that 100% because 2 hours of battery life is just not going to cut it, and I have ordered the elite strap with battery pack, awaiting the delivery of it. I normally set the air condition to a higher cooling temperature when I play VR because of all the body movements, and depending on the intensity of the game, I might have to frequently wipe my face with a wet towel if I ever sweat.

    A major problem that I found with the Quest 2 is that it is completely unbalanced.
    The entire weight of the headset eventually rests on the bridge of my nose.
    A better strap, like the Elite strap is not the answer. What is really necessary is a counterweight at the back.
    A battery carried on the back of the strap helps - and extends the use time of the headset.

    Keeping the quest from sun light ain't no joke! I noticed artifacts on the LCD panels even within less than a minute of exposure to the sun indirectly. VR lens covers are a must & specially if going outside.

    hmmm I always leave it connected to link cable, I hope that's not bad for the battery. Thanks for the tip about the free upgrade to foam. I've never had a problem with the stock strap, didn't know it was an issue for people.

    Awesome vid! Besides the camera bags, is there a designated Quest 2 case that the Eyglo strap fits into? I originally got the Oculus case, but my new strap is way too tall for it.

    I have the vr wave lenses but because my prescription is quite high and the lenses are thicker. What face cover do you use? I find that the silicon one can be quite uncomfortable and fog the lenses.

    The VR Wave lenses are great if you share a headset but they stick out a little too much. The lenses Oculus sells from Frames Direct are much more comfortable.

    I just bought the Meta Quest 2 and haven’t opened the box. I am new to VR and am totally paranoid about the space I will need, breaking glass, falling, or even if I like being covered by a 1/2 helmet and not being able to see my surroundings (which are small). After this very informative video, I am definitely returning it. It’s just not for me.

    Love this channel, and this video is super helpful. Great series of tips. My Quest2 is currently in limbo and at the mercy of FedEx, but while I wait I’m learning a lot! It’s funny, until I saw this video it would have never occurred to me to try and use the headset outdoors. Do a lot of people really do that?

    My girl bought with silicone "shock" protection they mighr be good for normal play, but made her miss more boxes in beatsaber a bit more often on expert plus.
    So i would stay away from those it was for the controllers she bought. It now collects dust im somewhere.
    For beginners it might be a good thing

    I found that my elite strap broke where the rubber that touches your head connects to the back of the headstrap, also if you dont have too much money you can try putting a pillowcase down in place of a dedicated pad

    The production quality upfront DEMANDS a minimum 250K subs. Do the creator a favor and share this with that careless VR user in your life.

    If there are Cells in series installed in the Headset it is recomendet to charge the Headset to 100% and leave it at the Charger for a couple of hourse, 3 times a year or so, so the BMS(Battery management system) can balance the cells. The charging from 20 to 80 may bring a bit of lifetime but it is not worth because there is usually enough headroom in the management allready.

    Great video. The one question I have that nobody covers. All the replacement straps have big knobs on the back. One of my favorite things to do is lay down and watch videos. I have gotta think that knob would dig into the back of my head. Is there a good strap without a large knob on the back?

    • @DiscoVRTetiana
      @DiscoVRTetiana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that's a great question, and it's probably the only thing that the stock strap is good for - laying down. I would say probably elite strap is the least uncomfortable because the know on the back is flat and not as big as protruding as in the rest of the headstraps, but it's still not ideal of course. Thanks for commenting!

    Like the tips but saying that turning the base straps to knuckle straps is "pathetic" is a bit shock ing some people like it and there is not actually any differences between the shot rubber one you have and the safe base one

    Honestly there's no way I could ever follow Tip 5. I would rather replace my quest 2 in a few years than have to make sure my headset doesn't charge over 80, as I love to just leave my headset plugged in even after hitting 100%. What can I say.. I love that green light ;)

    What foam face mask is best for the lens covers? Mine has issues, with the www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08ND2K42B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 VR Cover mask. The lenses dig into my eyes and it makes it hard to find the "sweet spot". I ended up leaving the top part of the mask unseated, in order to make it perfect, but I would prefer a mask that is solid and not unseated. Someone had mentioned doing this in one of their videos and it worked for me too. The VR Cover masks almost need another 1/4-1/2" on the top half of the padding or the Quest just needs more adjustment points for the Quest 3.
