Probably they did but was editted away. A lot is editted away from these videos.
Funny how they didnt use layman language when asking about her margin. Honestly, both sides were complete opposites, like oil and water trying to mix. Her expression was that of a brick wall when asked her margin. Seeing that, you'd think they would have reworded to just ask, "how much did it cost to make your supply, and how much do you sell it for? How much does the company cost to keep running?" And do a quick calculation. But instead battered her with business language she didnt understand while each dragon enjoyed dangling the lifeline of a mentor in her obviously desperate face until she broke down. After that, she went on autopilot and did what the world has taught her works for most women, crying and a manipulative plea of "help me save my children from repeating my own broke past!". It looked to me like the dragons were some very bored cats playing with a very vulnerable mouse caught between them all. She did go on to continue building the company and make money, and it's too bad Covid shut the company down in the end.

It annoys me that she (and presumably many other people) thinks that Apple (and Steve Jobs in particular, even though he wasn't an engineer) invented the concept of a phone that plays music.

This is why it's important to pitch with at least two people. That way, it's highly unlikely that they both have mental blocks at the same time

Completely agree. There's one thing having an emotional story to help drive you on. And there's another having a sob story to try and earn some pitty. This seemed like the latter, for sure.

Absolutely. People who really fight for their kids and struggle to succeed cry AFTER they get what they wanted or needed (Think about will smith in pursuit of happiness) and not BEFORE. And psychology aside, showing how needy you are plainly and simply puts you in the worst negotiating position you could be, in which your potential partner knows he can squeeze you because you really need to make a deal.
Unfortunately for these sympathy cravers, that tactic REALLY doesn’t work in business.
People in these comments really be telling on themselves with how callous they are.
People are allowed to have emotions; and if you think those emotions are fake it says more about you than it does about them ;)

Deborah seems the toughest one, but I worked with an infinite amount of leading business women that are like her, I can tell you for sure: Women like her are the best in business. Because they combine the impossible: thick skin and and empathy at the same time. I really really love her.
She's also very smart and good at drilling down to the facts, she's always the ones that goes over any contracts or other documents they have and finds what she needs to find.
I married a woman like Deborah, bloody glad I did.

It's the equivalent of the amazing ideas you have when you're half asleep and you think they're worth billions, and you're sure of it, except when you're awake and actually conscious to put them in more definite terms, you realise it was moronic. Except she's half asleep all the time - in her mind when she doesn't have to define and actually spell them out, the numbers are great.... seemingly, to her.

Well, the waterworks are what her parents and world in general have taught her works in situations of need, and I agree, despicable. Her expression was genuine desperation when a dragon mentioned she needed someone to walk her through big business, which is exactly what drove her there with out considering everything they were going to hit her with if she was to be successful at finding a mentor in that room. Her expression was that of a brick wall on her face when Deborah asked her about margins. You could see she didn't understand the question at all. I dont think she actually went over her numbers before going into the den, or maybe ever. Because anyone paying attention to their numbers can at least say "I spent this much on manufacturing the product, this much product sold, this much on the logistics and company, and we cleared this much from it all in the end of that fiscal year."
I actually fully expected her to claim she was about to faint for a last ditch attempt at sympathy and attention lol
This is one of the few shows where that doesn't work. And I love it.

As someone who lives in the American southeast, this crap is entirely too common. I blame it on the government supporting them just for having kids. One lady came in my store and had literally 2,000 dollars worth of food stamps. All for having kids. No job, no marketable skills, just a baby factory.
Meanwhile as a single male with no kids, I get taxed to hell and back, and couldn’t get any form of help when my doctor took me out of work for 6 months to do surgery on my hands.

Stress is hell of a drug. I sometimes struggle to tell my name for a few seconds because only thing i could think of is that i need to think things other than having to think other things.
Now that's how you use examples. Talking about the number of rooms when you sell a house expains very well what the most relevant facts are when selling a business model.

The look on her face spoke a libraries worth of words. That open mouth, confused, lost and desperate looking over into blank space as if she had just been asked to solve Newtons 3rd law of thermodynamics using nothing but some pebbles and a length of string was the end of it for me.
She isn't just out of her depth, she is drowning before she ever got into the pool, she is looking at the sign telling her the pool is 5 miles away and instantly thinking "OMG I'M DROWNING HELP HELP SOMEONE SAVE ME" and the other people on the bus are looking at each other sideways wondering what loony bin she just came from.

The main difference is simply the clothes they are wearing. They are all wearing black in front of the dragons which is a slimming colour.

Exactly. A sob story about not being educated isn't going to cut it in business, neither are tears. Educate yourself on those basic numbers and how to calculate them! It's gob smacking how time and time again people walk into the Den thinking they don't need those basic numbers, and Deborah shuts them down. Every. Single. Time. (and rightly so).

There's just no way she made any profit, and certainly no way near the turnover she claimed. This woman's company was running for barely one year before being struck off. And I don't believe her at all when she claimed to have such celebrity endorsements. She probably spent a ton sending these celebrities this product and before she realised it, she had no money left to run the business.
you can't step onto this show with an ego. That's why I like it so much it's not just a test if you have all the sales and numbers its judgement for if you have the characteristsics developed to manage the business through adversity
I also imagine it has something to do with figuring out profitability, a lot of nonsense figures are revealed through the number questions.
Is there a rule against bringing in documents that have all the figures? Because I don't understand why so many go in relying on their memory whilst they're under pressure.
I'd imagine they're not allowed to read from a script that way they slip up more thus making the show better to the producers
Think she knew damn well what her year two figures were. Turning over that much money you simply have to know or bills won’t be paid. Her profit in year two was probably crap and she didn’t want to say. OR she has no intention of agreeing an investment and she’s just after publicity. Just not throwing straight dice is my instinct.

Why don't people do their homework by watching this programme BEFORE they enter the Den. I think it is fair to say that none of the Dragon's are interested in a 5% stake in anything and why would they?
I is shocking to see how many people turn blank if they are asked about the figures. If you do business you've got to know how many you are producing, how many you sell, what they sell for, and most of all you have to know how much money is going into and out of your bank account. Best of all, they go and ask for an investment, and do so without preparing properly.

Didn't have the priviledge of education !? Pff.. I drove trucks to support my family, now I got my own company since 11 years. I googled and asked whoever I could to not make bad mistakes and get my business going. No-one helped me either and I don't cry people a river about that. My job, my responsibility, my problem... and my numbers, that I should know about ;-)

The pitch was really good tbf, maybe she had a brain freeze or was hiding something. The way she told the story made it investable and the way she brought in the models I thought was timed right - not too lengthy. Pity she didn't have her figures straight.

Performance fabrics can be great. I have sun sleeves I wear in 45+C heat that I can then take off indoors and they're far cooler to wear than any normal fabrics I own. That said, there is no fabric in the world that is going to boost collagen and elastin that's just a lie.
