Nexus is fascinating. Yuval has given us a timely gift - not giving power to a party who doesn’t intend to give it back is key to the 2024 US elections

It is. But his message is rational conversation in a democracy. No one person has all the answers. We need many smart people like Yuval with many perspectives reasonably discussing things to get closer to what is true while maintaining peace.

Naivety is a great way to frame the ignorance towards information technology, this is such an important message. Where would progressive, liberal minded types be without this man's insight and brilliance... and this conversation was a delight to listen to, the interviewer did a fantastic job of exploring the ideas and asking great questions. I nearly didn't click on this video due to the cheesy channel name... Harari won my click, and this is one of the best interviews I've seen.

Order is created by maximising the focus on a particular idea. As technology changes the status quo method of doing this changes, but it only replaced by the next new thing. We didn’t sink because we held onto the wood, we then used the wood to build a boat, we then worked out that we could use the wind to have a say in the direction we headed, we then found out we could use an engines to negate nature and just power through in any direction we want. What’s faster than the speed of light, the thing directing the focus

The idea that the world is moving away from democracy back to dictatorships may be more frightening than AI taking over. The masses are swayed by information not knowing what it’ll lead to. Simplicity should be key, if a person feels like she/he wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, don’t wish for much change in that place.

Harari is one of the smartest people of our times. I liked the very smooth remark that he said about Marvel or whatever superheroes movies today, that they are "easy" to make is stead of saying they are fast movies and don't even need actors for it, that's how stupid they are.

I would love hear Mr. Harari speak about the role and power of corporations and powerful groups (like Hamas, Isis) within countries and regions. History still seems to organize itself country by country, but many corporations feel like occupying enemy forces, with no concern for the citizens of the countries they invade and influence.

The America I grew up in, in the 80s and 90s, taught me about the world, other peoples, other cultures, other religions, and other ways of thinking. My students, today, tell me that they no longer receive that education. But then again, all these students do today is look at themselves, memes, and animations online, held in their palms, with very short attention spans, shorter than ours were in the 80s and 90s. And their parents are selfish and arrogant, either in their not-knowing, or in their knowing, otherwise.

Yes, the individual rights were reinforced but the central state cohersion was reinforced as well on the basis of the expenses of the local communities power. Well. We can easily deduce that the power of the state ever increases on the expenses of the other two powers.
I remember that there were tribal horizontal societies, complex aocieties, which were organized not as empires before the invasion of the Asian warriors... They are exception to centralised imperial societies? Maybe. However, the general thesis of Harari is established under the previously creed of the absence of power except as a mean to gain general concordance and hierarchical command to mitigate the.general scarcity. To Harari power does not exist de per se, it is a mean to get cooperation through narratives and to increase productivity or wealth while solving complex economical, political or societal problems. Certainly all the evolutionary psychology as well as the intrinsic properties of power were discharged forever...

i see compassion , but not of any divine revelation. Unless one makes the pantheistic blunder. And there are different kinds. His diagnosis is correct as others. We see this. His revisionisms are his own inventions. But a book needs some distinction to sell. And he is concerned and thinks he has something to say. I respect that. And will listen, too.

@@air2z What is the basis for his characterization of AI as possessing agency? He is a graduate of Philosophy. He should know the deeper nuance of agency itself. Aside from that, what's the point of such apocalyptic prediction? If humans are doomed to be overwhelmed by super AI, what's the point of pessimism? And why treat AI as completely independent from us instead of extending our body and surpass out limitations? That's the fundamental role of technology.
Most importantly, why does he view humans as useless as compared to Super AI if such really exists? Doesn't it make the tech giants diffuse responsibility to non-human entity providing justification for ?unemployment and doesn't it justify intellectual dishonesty as data mining and the lack of protection of privacy results to the constant stealing of original research considered as the creation of ChatGPT ?
? And I want to go back to the philosophical ramifications of his claim that AI is conscious and has freedom. What is consciousness? Have we finally understood the complexity of the human brain?
And to be objective, I want to cite Noam Chomsky's assertion that AI is merely am engineering output whose failure to provide new knowledge concerning the world is an outright exemplification of its epic failure. Chomsky's expertise on Generative Grammar and his role in the development of AI provides us objective knowledge from the insider of AI development itself. Compared to Chomsky, what qualifies Harrari to predict the future of AI?
Unless you can express you a legitimate rebuttal to the contentions I raised, you don't have the right to consider my points as mere " mouthpiece of haters of AI".. You can response if you have intellectual capacity. Yeah, you can ask ChatGPT, hahaha 😂

Yes. But AI is not the answer.. and has no independence from the information fed into it, and much is theories and models and dubious in fact. And if it communicates as a machine, " Error, Error." We will be treated as machines. And we better get our sentience right. To begin with. In short, I dont trust human nature with our imaginations and inventions of enterprise. Meanwhile, entropy continues unraveling from the far reaches of the Universe inward. Fortunately, we are not in charge. The divine is not in entropy, this being a creation beyond our philosophies that no words can embrace or take fully hold of at all. As we " investigate". Hey maybe this, no that. This way, then that. All is vanity outside the sovereignty and stewardship of God. He went nowhere, where did we go? What is seen in the light is not seen in the darkness. Pride of mind, complexity of explanation, doesn't make for truth. And there is much to stay away from here. He's to smart for his own good. Wise in his own eyes. Using moral maxims to say other's are stupid for not listening is a failure to listen to self. He has it right on the methods towards personal achievement. Stalin would have killed him, the educational community would utilize him and commercial interests in the west a time not long past. Socialist policy brooks no personal aggrandisements beyond the utility of the materialistic pantheism of the " many". And Capitolism seeks personal and social profit without interference from heaven above or hell beneath. The devil must have his share. Kind of reminds one of the Storm of the Century by Stephen King. With less commotion.

" YOUR COMING. CLOTHES OR NO CLOTHES. You got caught like Emperor without his clothes on." LOL . If only I were younger. Au Revior. Thank for sharing.

Publishers like independent but thought provoking stories and essays long or short of many kinds. Dissertations they like in some quarters. Secrets from espionage. The latest esoteric writings they like. People crave the strange and the new. Beats entropy

The people of God who are called by his name according to his foreknowledge and purpose of election will never bow down the knee to the god of this world and his one world government. They will overcome him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they love not their lives unto the death. Glory to the Lamb of God who was slain before the foundation of the world.

Romans 9:18, “Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden."
This reflects the idea that God can influence a person’s heart or will.
      Jeremiah 10:23,
“Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps."
This implies that people are not fully in control of their actions or fate.

he is absolutely so clueless as to what is really going on technology/algorithm wise and or politician or what the current media is selling him. I think one day he will ook back and see how naive he was being and too eager to regurgitate what appears to him as his own digested knowledge when they have been curated for him.

Harari reminds me of the Bible story about the serpents lie , he is the serpent. Don’t fall for the temptation , you can not be like God

Bible stories were written to oppress by people who lacked Harari’s intelligence and insights, that much is obvious. Religion is dead, as far as I’m concerned. I hope that people aren’t stupid enough to feed AI with fantasy stories
