I'm not positive on the altitude, but I think the news helicopters must maintain an altitude of 1,500 feet while the police helicopters can maintain 1,000 feet and below. Years ago we had two news helicopters collide here in Phoenix. Nobody survived.

Those are TV guys from Phoenix Fox 10. They are NOT from Dallas. They report on chases from ANYWHERE they are allowed to show them. This chase took place in the Oak Cliff section in southwest Dallas County. They thought they were in Tarrant County which is where Fort Worth is. They couldn't name a single street on the chase! Dallas reporters would have known all of this. They made a statement at 3:30 "We're getting this from our sister station Fox 4 THERE in Dallas that the suspects may be robbers." An obvious statement that THEY are not in, or from Dallas, only using their video footage to broadcast this chase from Phoenix. The actual Phoenix city limit population is larger than Dallas. However, he says at 6:34 "but when you add Dallas with Fort Worth they are a larger metro area even larger than ours." When he says "ours" he is talking about the Phoenix metro area. Clearly these guys covering the chase are from Phoenix for their own programming, not Dallas. Again their own channel states they are from Phoenix. At one point they make reference to a chase they were very familiar with in Tempe their own neck of the woods. Don't blame this on Dallas coverage, the chase only took place in Dallas.
These reporters ignorance is amazing, guy has about 4" of clearance between the dash and the flipped up Hood to see out of. But, saying that he can't see makes it more sensational for the viewer's.
I love these officers . They are just men, dads, husbands trained so well to get the criminal. Impressive. The few that are not so good doesn’t take anything away from the majority.
Outrunning a cop on foot is even easier than in a car. Most are out of shape and can't burst a sprint for more than qp seconds. We used to do this regularly when younger.
As always I feel sorry for the owners of those vehicles especially so if the getaway car is not theirs. I also am bothered by the fact that when the suspects bail out of the moving vehicles and have no consideration as to the damage and injuries that the vehicle could do.
