The skills that can be learned in the video carry over into other parts of life, which I find refreshing after finding mostly "Do these 10 things and you're amazing!" that is found on the web. Telling people to watch and evaluate their gameplay is such a good tip to give to people trying to improve. I play a lot of Tekken as well as Apex, and its helped me so much to identify my mistakes in both games.
I am glad i watched this, i am stuck in plat and felt demotivated to even play ranked because i knew i sucked. I got a totally different mindset right now when i go into ranked. Like you said i got nothing to lose, and it's the best place to practise !
Great advice about playing so you’re getting punished for your mistakes, exposing weaknesses. I play pubs 99% of the time and I’m wondering why I’m not progressing as quickly as I could. I’ll be playing ranked more now 😄

Thanks for the coaching Nihil. I’ve followed many of your pointers for warm up even to include an aim warm up in the range for just a few minutes before I play. I’m on console and sticks are hard, but it works. Upping my sens because I’m getting quicker in game and being consistent has helped a ton! As a result I’m seeing my KD go up and my average damage per round go up and my win % going up too. Thanks for the tips and keep them coming!!

I love watching your videos so much! Such a nice and relaxing voice and way of talking while explaining incredible in depth knowledge about the game. All the while promoting to always be polite and helpful to your teammates no matter how bad they are :) amazing!
That mindset shift of how we view ranked is key. When I play pubs, I realise that the team element just is not there. People leave even when downed, people not coordinating as a team. Even in ranked playing solo, there's a lot more coordination. And I'm realising that if I get stuck at the bottom of a tier for a while, it's worth changing legends to see if a different legend suits the new required play style for that tier.

I was at diamond and i didnt play ranked for 2 splits, and im stuck there for 2 days after starting ranked again, i want to be as good as the old me. Thanks for this🙏
6 months ago, i moved from pc to ps4, since my pc died and my cousin let me use his ps4, it was my first time playing on console, so first thing i did was to get used to movement in controller and find a good layout, after doing it, i spend like 1 hour in firing range every time i play, if i'm not sastified with my sens, then i would go to firing range and see in what i lack (flicking and tracking), i started with classic 3-3, then steady 5-4 then 5-5, and after that i used Alc, after 2 months of using it, i started to feel like my tracking is not on point, but my flicks were good, so i moved to classic 6-5 2 weeks ago, i saw that my tracking was better, but i could no flick well, 3 days ago, my back button attachment came, so it was time to change the layout and yesterday i got 3,548 damage (the highest i've ever gotten), i still feel that my long range weapons like g7 and longbow were not as good as before, so i'm thinking in changing something.
Could you please create a video where you talk about the mental/psychological challanges you face when trying to improve and really become your best, such as managing tilt, anxiety, frustration and the dissapointment it all brings when failing alot

Hammerpoints are amazing, I've always loved the mozam even back when it was a complete meme but hammerpoints, now the four round mag and I've only realized an hour ago that its apparently full auto (When'd that happen?)

Like I do with toxic player: pick up their banners, never res them, so they can`t quit (10 mins penalty) , neither can play. Also the problem is: randoms play pubs like ranked (go to the edge of the map) and ranked like pubs (perform hotdrops in 3-or-more teams clutch). So I take ranked seriosly, they not. That's the reason I play ranked solo-like: insta block all communication if team is making stupid things. It was hard for me to learn to not repeat stupid idiotic bullshit tricks my team is performing and expecting me to follow them. I mean, I agree with you on that you must play ranked to practice on proper level of skill, but there`s more to it why ppl aint play ranked than you mentioned. Apex is my first FPS ever, I`m in my 30s, I spent maybe 1500h in it and it`s mostly pubs. I'm taught myself programming (C++) and my last project was AAA game in Ubisoft. I mean, I know someting about how to learn. And I can say you can do develop your skill in pubs - at least first 1500-2000h in Apex, I can say nowadays pubs are strong, so if you`re plat or lower you can play hotdrops to practice clutches and if you rulled out the clutch and made few killz next you can start to depelop mid-game, end-game strategy by focusing on winning. If you're dimond or higher: your skill will probably degrade if you aint put few hours in ranked every day. The main thing: put out all randomness from your game. Make a decision, fail, learn. If you`re about to do someting stupid - be aware of it and do it for fun :) About reviewing the game: it`s maybe boring, but if you choose the game you ALMOST won it can be very fun. I mean, don't forget about motivation behind it: people want to improve, but unlike you, they may be bored and had burnout if they take it to seriosly. Thanks!
After referring your videos for many months,i am pretty good at decision making,flanking,positioning, etc.... But still i fail because of several reasons,like bad aim,bad teammates etc... everytime i down someone,i will be like 30hp or something...the second guy immediately down me,and my teammates will be around chilling like nothing is happening there.... coming to my aim ,I am very good in firing range, but in game, i miss almost 80% of the mag ammo.... most of the time i get knocked while i hit enemies for 130-140 damage.... and if they strafe well,i can't even hit them for 100 damage😕
Ive prefer playing ranked over qp for a while because it serves to me as a more "realistic expectation" to my end goal and punishes me harder than qp would because people (usually) play more consistently.
Possible time saver for ShadowPlay users: Set a hotkey to save the previous 3-5 minutes of gameplay and hit it after every lost fight. This way you don't end up with 4+ hours of vods per day to go through.
Yeah this is something I recommend in circumstances of mental fatigue or very, very time-limited schedules (say 1 hour or less per day), but it does really skip a lot of macro plays and won fights that should be peeked at. Topic for the vod review episode :D
I was going to try to go for masters this season but me and my teammate mostly camp buildings and third party only when needed. Should i wait and try for a higher rank later and focus on getting better now or should i contine to try to grind for a higher rank?
Recently been in a huge Apex slump. I've been losing all my 1v1s and getting more scared to solo queue because I keep getting punished. Been stuck at Plat IV and have noticed my skill getting lower. I'm here in hopes I could find a way to get better.
Is there a common element to what is contributing to you losing your fights suddenly? Are you often caught unaware, out of position, missing crucial shots, away from teammates, etc? We can't solve a "slump", step 1 is identifying the common problem. Also make sure to differentiate between lower RESULTS vs lower SKILL. Other factors such as matchmaking, playstyle and teammates are more directly impactful on your results in the short term. Skill will skew the entire set of stats up in the longer term.
This is a great video. However, when it comes to ranked about 80% of ranked play is based on TEAM play. So yea you can do well solo queueing but its next to impossible without team play from platt 1 up.

You have to forget about the big picture for a sec, ignore immediate results and focus on one thing at a time. Something that’s easy to keep focussing on improving and practice it until it doesnt take much effort to do anymore, that’s when you can move on to the next thing. If everything you try to do takes a lot of focus, it’s way too much mental effort to sustain
@@jsnicks7189 well those are still very broad topics, you can easily split awareness into “keeping track of all 3 enemy’s positions” or decision making into “I won’t push until I have a strong advantage” or “I’m going to keep better track of my teammates today and be there if they need backup”

if you are a pusher.. then push as u rank up. my mistake was being too timid, but i said fuck it i got nothing to lose and kept pushing in plat.. ending up with more RP. also like he said record your gameplay and biggie - force yourself to watch mistakes. it will suck, but ull learn right away what u did wrong.. 1500 hours in still see stupid mistakes (like going over a box instead of peeking it for no reason at all today) got clapped by 2 squads same time.
"Your team mates will be taking things more seriously" I'd like to have those team mates please, I've seen some of them stare into a lootbox for half an eternity and then suddenly murder two thirds of an enemy team only to go back into staring at the loot boxes again. Am I missing something? Are the lootboxes whispering the secrets to genocide or something?
You don't hear the voices because they come from the inside, your teammates have seen some sh*t man. Every time they stand and stare at that box, they're reliving the nightmare of being W-keyed by a triple mastiff pred deathsquad for breakfast. Flashbacks of a pathfinder flying, 360 hipfiring for 50+ damage. How does he hit so much and I only hit for 13s? It can't be my fault, it has to be the game's fault.. Or they're on controller.

Specifically aiming at Apex hitboxes and strafing, it helps so much and wraiths are still the freaking worst to shoot when strafing fast LOL Oftentimes I end up hipfiring wraiths for being too aggro and making myself hard to hit too, bangalore speed boost ftw
Interesting you should mention Quake Champions. I played that for a while, but the skill gap was soooo huge in that game. The thing I loved about it was the constant action, you are basically constantly fighting. I really, really wish there was an equivalent game mode in Apex since it would give you the ability to really maximize time spent practicing fights, rather than running around looting for several minutes, and spending time in the lobby and loading screens as we do in Apex. Die, boom, respawn, fight would be so beneficial to improving skills. We need an Arena mode for Apex! Please @Respawn!

I would play more often, but every time I jump on, I'm afraid it will screw up my muscle memory for Apex. That and I have to remember how to strafe hop again. LOL. Glad you're having fun though! Wish Epic would finish UE Tournament too, that's even better than Q:C IMHO. (I'm an OG Arena game player from back in the day).
Yo coach how can I help my gf get better? Whenever we play on my main we get preds in pubs but when I play ranked with her on my second account I feel like I’m building bad habits. What should I do?
You can play with her as warm up before hopping into your own more challenging lobbies and try to set something you can practice even in easier lobbies such as working on your headshot accuracy, corner peeks or grenade usage. You can also try to explain to her why you play a certain way or try to play supportive around her to prevent yourself from just depending on outskilling the enemies Ultimately, to improve you both need to play on your own level. Playing with her could always just serve the purpose of being fun or a teaching experience while you practice for yourself on your own ^^
Coach Nihil yea using the time I play with her to work on certain skills is a good idea. She mostly needs to work on awareness and aim since she’s kinda new to fps games. Thanks

Yes, higher kdr players will have easier lobbies than 1.1-1.5 kdr players. I have tested this with 2 accounts
Possible time saver for ShadowPlay users: Set a hotkey to save the previous 3-5 minutes of gameplay and hit it after every lost fight. This way you don't end up with 4+ hours of vods per day to go through.
Yeah this is something I recommend in circumstances of mental fatigue or very, very time-limited schedules (say 1 hour or less per day), but it does really skip a lot of macro plays and won fights that should be peeked at. Topic for the vod review episode :D

Recently been in a huge Apex slump. I've been losing all my 1v1s and getting more scared to solo queue because I keep getting punished. Been stuck at Plat IV and have noticed my skill getting lower. I'm here in hopes I could find a way to get better.
Is there a common element to what is contributing to you losing your fights suddenly? Are you often caught unaware, out of position, missing crucial shots, away from teammates, etc?
We can't solve a "slump", step 1 is identifying the common problem.
Also make sure to differentiate between lower RESULTS vs lower SKILL. Other factors such as matchmaking, playstyle and teammates are more directly impactful on your results in the short term. Skill will skew the entire set of stats up in the longer term.

This is a great video. However, when it comes to ranked about 80% of ranked play is based on TEAM play. So yea you can do well solo queueing but its next to impossible without team play from platt 1 up.
I've solo queued several accounts to D3 and above every season with no issue, keep practicing

I have a hard time executing all those lessons from a year ago I can’t handle the overload what do I do? I try to improve decision making I watch a lot of vids but I still feel trash
You have to forget about the big picture for a sec, ignore immediate results and focus on one thing at a time. Something that’s easy to keep focussing on improving and practice it until it doesnt take much effort to do anymore, that’s when you can move on to the next thing.
If everything you try to do takes a lot of focus, it’s way too much mental effort to sustain

@@jsnicks7189 well those are still very broad topics, you can easily split awareness into “keeping track of all 3 enemy’s positions” or decision making into “I won’t push until I have a strong advantage” or “I’m going to keep better track of my teammates today and be there if they need backup”

if you are a pusher.. then push as u rank up. my mistake was being too timid, but i said fuck it i got nothing to lose and kept pushing in plat.. ending up with more RP. also like he said record your gameplay and biggie - force yourself to watch mistakes. it will suck, but ull learn right away what u did wrong.. 1500 hours in still see stupid mistakes (like going over a box instead of peeking it for no reason at all today) got clapped by 2 squads same time.

Interesting you should mention Quake Champions. I played that for a while, but the skill gap was soooo huge in that game. The thing I loved about it was the constant action, you are basically constantly fighting. I really, really wish there was an equivalent game mode in Apex since it would give you the ability to really maximize time spent practicing fights, rather than running around looting for several minutes, and spending time in the lobby and loading screens as we do in Apex. Die, boom, respawn, fight would be so beneficial to improving skills. We need an Arena mode for Apex! Please @Respawn!
@@jasonhurdlow6607 my laptop came a week ago and I've stopped playing apex on my ps4 ever since. I'm having sooo much fun playing quake, it's unreal. Apex was getting too boring for me and quake feels like a breath of fresh air. I hope more people jump on to the game

I would play more often, but every time I jump on, I'm afraid it will screw up my muscle memory for Apex. That and I have to remember how to strafe hop again. LOL. Glad you're having fun though! Wish Epic would finish UE Tournament too, that's even better than Q:C IMHO. (I'm an OG Arena game player from back in the day).

Yo coach how can I help my gf get better? Whenever we play on my main we get preds in pubs but when I play ranked with her on my second account I feel like I’m building bad habits. What should I do?
You can play with her as warm up before hopping into your own more challenging lobbies and try to set something you can practice even in easier lobbies such as working on your headshot accuracy, corner peeks or grenade usage. You can also try to explain to her why you play a certain way or try to play supportive around her to prevent yourself from just depending on outskilling the enemies
Ultimately, to improve you both need to play on your own level. Playing with her could always just serve the purpose of being fun or a teaching experience while you practice for yourself on your own ^^
Coach Nihil yea using the time I play with her to work on certain skills is a good idea. She mostly needs to work on awareness and aim since she’s kinda new to fps games. Thanks
