    I'm in peri-menopause. I had sleep problems that were really severe. I gained a lot of weight. I got a fitbit, and realized I wasn't getting that many steps. Getting 12,000 steps a day really helped. Weight training helped me lose inches. The weight is still there, but I care more about inches than weight.

      Hey Carolynn!! Thanks for sharing! Glad that increasing your daily step count have helped and weight training too - I'm even more happy to hear that you now care more about inches than weight! Well done!!

      @@MichelleRoots at 49 I also want to build as much bone density as I can before menopause. Lifting heavy is supposed to do that. Need food to have the energy to lift.

    As far as sleep goes, I invested in a Dyson fan that lives by my bedside. Just that bit of breeze helped my hot-flash self immensely.

    Your ideas make sense..I have gained 40 pounds since I was 40 yrs and I am now 73 yrs.
    I ve been starting to walk in the mall and it does help. I need help so much cause I was thin for my first 40 years and I feel like a bag of garbage now. It makes me sad and life issues have dragged me down. Help!!
    I am from winnipeg in Canada. Bad weather sure doesn't help, cold outside and icy 6 months 🤪

    You didn't mention estrogen dominance, which leads to belly fat. I have trained my entire life, but it wasn't working anymore. In fact, working out had the opposite effect. If you are in menopause, too much exercise can cause inflammation. Never had a stomach until menopause (not during peri-menopause) and it's infuriating. I eat well, sleep well, and have good routines all the way around. Nothing I can change - AT ALL....There is simply not enough research on this subject. All of the research on exercise and nutrition is for young women or men. HRT caused me to gain 10 kilos really fast so stopped taking it. Now on herbal supplement only. Bottom line, is there is no trick to fighting mother nature here. All you can do is ensure all the things you mentioned - sleep, eating healthy food, etc.

    Recently found your channel and I’m loving it! I was hoping to watch the video about cortisol but it says it’s unavailable so I’m curious if you have another video that addresses cortisol. Thank you so much for all the great information I’ve gotten from you so far.

    Very informative video. I am in peri menopause and before this change I never had to worry about my weight. I was always thin even after having 3 children. But darn it, menopause started coming in like a bitch! I put on so much weight and even though I have always been active and watch what I eat, for the life of me I can’t seem to lose this weight. It’s frustrating to say the least. I workout 5-7 days a week and I strength train 5-6 days with cardio in between. I do not lift heavy but I stick with 15 lbs weights. I do see a little definition in my body but the scale is still the same not moving up nor down. 😢

    Great advice. Stress is also a huge factor and too much cardio can stress your system and elevate your cortisol. I was always doing some kind of cardio and eating well but I started getting a huge fat belly late 40ies and was wondering why. Went to see my GP (younger than me) and she had no idea about it, was not educated on menopause and how to combat its symptoms. Weight lifting and upping my protein has been the biggest help for me. I have lost 6 % bodyfat (most important indicator) and 10 pounds.

    Thanks for this video. It's really discouraging to find that all the steps I used before my 50s are not working to move this stubborn belly fat. I'm learning so much from your channel and now I see the main ingredient I'm missing these days is patience.

    Thank you Michelle 👏Just spot on for me. I'm wondering if you could explain about protein and carbs intake approach if we want to lose fat. Sometimes I see personal trainers recommend higher carbs when others higher protein intake.. Especially for women who entered their 50's. Are your plans you have mentioned ok for women at their 50's?

    I take estrogen as HRT and run three times a week and lift once a week. Doing all this has meant I don’t pack on the weight as easily as it was. I would say HRT alone is not a magic pill. I still packed on belly fat just doing this. I also used to lift weights twice a week and that was still not effective without calorie restriction. What changed me the most was running. Since taking up running three years ago my set point has gone down two stone. So I still put it on over the holidays etc but not so much and from a lower base weight. Zone two running is the best. It retrains your muscle cells to burn fat and grows those energy burning cells. Steady state long distance cardio is the real secret in my experience. I takes time but it will lengthen your life by many years as well as keeping you lean.

      I’m 51 and I run EVERYDAY and strength train 4x per week. I’ll never give up running. ❤️

    • @MichelleRoots
      @MichelleRoots  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you love running go for it! Zone 2 cardio is great for health and fat loss, strength training is also important for bone density, muscle mass and longevity etc. If you are enjoying both keep doing what you are doing :)
