I've had my PS5 for just over a year and I still learned something new with this video! Had no idea I set up the stand incorrectly. Also, didn't realize I could dim the controller lights. Thank you Spawn Wave!

I signed up and got the invite to buy from playstation direct last December.
Then, roughly a month later in January, I spotted an Xbox Series X hiding in the locked case behind the electronics counter at a Meijer.
It does not feel like it's been a year with these consoles. More like a few months. It took several months of owning them before it even started to feel real to me. LOL. Even though a couple people at work already got a PS5, one at launch and the other in the first year at least.
I was just clickbaited out of curiosity, if there's something I don't know about the system, and/or should be concerned about.
And/or? I have yet to watch that show.

The vertical stand is best. I have the PS4 and PS3 vertical also. Heat rises to and escapes out the top end and back of the system. They can stand a few inches apart from each other. If they were horizontal, there would have to be shelves between them, and that takes more space and reduces air circulation.

I ended up a generation behind during grad school and it has made the hobby so much more financially tenable. Can't wait till the ps6 is announced so I can finally get one of these. :)

Be careful with your USB type A ports. Some people have had the blue plastic break off. Don’t over use them. I’ve had mine for almost 2 years with a problem.
I didn't get a PS5, but my wife did get me my first Nintendo Switch. It's OLED Model. From everything we seen that seems like it was the best to get. I know everyone else already had a Switch, but I'm really excited about it. The last console I've had before this is the GameCube. I'm really enjoying my Switch. It's so much faster and looks way better than my GameCube. I'm finally playing BOTW. Btw the Zelda series of games are my all time favorite games. I've been wanting to play that game ever since it came out. It's so different than my favorite Zelda game OoT. It's a lot of fun so far.

During the ps+ section of this video, I'm surprised there was no mention of planning your renewal around black Friday/holiday season. I've literally never paid $60 for Plus.

I did not expect to get a ps5 at all! And I would have been fine with that, as I was setting my eyes on a Steam Deck, since I was looking for a new gameplay experience and simply saw the ps5 as a fancier PS4 but no major changes. Lo and behold, my brother and mom both got me one, lol! am pretty excited to get games for it. God of War Ragnarok and Elden Ring here I come!
Just got mine. I can't stress enough how awesome the controller is for the system. Just WOW! Playing God of War or Gran Turismo 7 with this controller is some "S" tier stuff. It's tough to go back to a controller of yesteryear after playing the new PS5 controller.

A deep drive into the PS5 UI and menues+ a deeper look at settings would be a welcome addition, since so few people show the UI and just keep physically opening up the PS5 and showing the same ports and ssd slot everyone else has already talked about.
great recommendations, Got my PS5 around launch from sheer luck in the PS Direct queue. I second the stand and possibly a spare dual sense if you can manage it... I have not had an issue game interruption from a dead controller battery since that point. I also love the fact that Sony went the route of the NVME drive instead of a proprietary storage option, storage costs just keep getting cheaper.
A point I'd just like to bring up. Try to get the PS App on your phone and sync up to your PS5. I have had countless moments when I was away from my house and I found a crazy deal on the PS Store, purchased it, and set the download remotely (While my PS5 was in Rest mode). Came home to see the game downloaded and waiting.
It used to be that putting the console into rest mode 'might' cause the console to crash and force a start up... but I haven't seen that happen in almost half a year now. I think Sony patched a fix for it.
The only problem I had with the PS5’s NVME drive port was that it has to be a pcie 4.0 drive :/ when a 3.0 drive would work really fine as well. You still can’t use any other external drive for ps5 games, so unfortunately in a way it’s somewhat proprietary. Many PCs give you the option for pcie 3.0 and the games run as good, so there really is no need to lock people out in playing ps5 games using pcie 3.0 or an external ssd/hdd

@@EddyOver9000 i've used hdd's for external memory on my laptops. Good options and relatively cost effective, but they are demonstrably slower. Could the lack of speed be the issue or reason why Sony went 4.0?

One thing you forgot to mention about the PS4 games being backwards compatible with the PS5, 'some' of these games (emphasis on some) come with a free upgrade to the PS5 version. If it's disc based, it will tell you on the box to the game itself (usually on the front but it can be on the back too) that a free upgrade to the PS5 is available.
I bought my PS5 in July 2021, but still watched the video as a refresher. Great stuff.
I have two big gripes with the PS5. One is PS5 saves. If the PS5 game uses the native PS5 save system, you probably cannot delete, move, or copy individual saves for a selected game. In games like Ghost of Tsushima or Demon's Souls, any save you create in-game is permanent unless you delete your entire game save. The only way around this is to backup and restore your saves from the cloud before you created it in-game. Simply put, the PS5 native save system is inadequate and a large regression.
My second annoyance is not being able to copy PS5 saves to USB. Your only option for PS5 specific saves (not PS4) is the cloud. If you're offline, or you don't pay for Plus, you're out of luck. The 'workaround' here is that you can backup your entire Saved Data folder through the system menu. There are other annoyances like not being able to use any themes or change any colour schemes etc. but they don't bother me as much.
I have a ps5 already and know how to use it. I just love the entire Spawn cast. So I'm watching to support always. 🙂❤️
I just came home two hours ago from Target. Almost three years I waited, glad I did actually-even got the God of War included for $509!

If you have yet to play ghosts of Tsushima, definitely get it for the ps5! It’s a fantastic game with a great story and plenty to do
1:50: Kensington lock mainly for in store display purpose and people who might need there equipment to stay secure imcase of small ground trembles/ mini earthquakes.

I have to also point out that (to save storage) turn off trophy and challenge video saving. It was on by default for me and eats up storage without you noticing. I also download the ps4 version bc the ps5 controller hurts my small hands and I prefer ps4 controller because of it.
Imagine losing out on PS5 enhancements and Dualsense features because of small hands lol

Ooof I’ve always been a fan of the size of PlayStations controller size. I hope DualSense isn’t too much bigger . Xbox controller size has been a big turn off for me too.
@@I-O-I- i'm 6'1" but my hands are on the smaller side, for sure. Never had any trouble using any of the controllers for any system I can recall. The original Xbox controls were veritable tanks in size, haha.

I got mine last week and man, I thought it was broken. I put the disc in the “traditional way” And it didn’t work. I said to myself “ WTH Sony!?!!” But then a friend of mine said to flip it and out worked. lol, I felt so awkward afterwards. But I’m loving it so far

Finally started playing Days Gone.... That game is FANTASTIC.... The dialog and voice acting comes across as completely natural...

I actually had a friend of mine who returned his console because he thought it was broken when he laid it horizontal and had the disk drive on the top. He couldn't figure out why he couldn't get the disk to go in. Does show you that he didn't read the instructions cause he only thought the stand was for if it was vertical only
Being used to the XSX, I definitely placed the disc in backwards to start lol

Going from my 2017 PS4 Pro to my PS5 has been a dream. Load times are almost non-existent, Demon's Souls on fidelity mode is blowing my fucking mind on my brand new 4k tv as well, and best of all: THE PS5 IS QUIET AS HELL.

I got my PS5 just a month and a half ago and I am happy with it. I am on the PS Premium tier, I will switch to the middle tier as you recommend because of PS3 Emulation in my case. What I wish the PS5 could have is to copy the game saves to an USB drive and in the dashboard I was able to see the friends game activity and trophies, both features from the PS4 are not on PS5 at least not yet. The usb-c port is for the new psvr2 so can’t necessarily be used for external drives if VR games are on it

I love this channel and the way he makes videos. Just got my pe5 and I just learn what I needed whit this info.
I was in a Gamestop on Christmas Eve for a giftcard and to renew Power-Up Rewards. As I stood in the line, a cashier walked to the back at least 3 times to get PS5's. Lady in front of me asked for a PS4 (??) and said "ok, that's fine" when the cashier said they only had the $330 bundle. When it was my turn, I got the second register. I asked the guy if they had any systems, he says "PS5, but only the $500 one". They also had Series S, standalone and bundles. This brought me to two conclusions.
A. No one asks questions anymore.
B. STOP SENDING PEOPLE TO THE STORE WITH A VAGUE LIST!!!! Someone in tx is going to be pissed when they realize the store had PS5's. I know everyone is in a different situation, but no one where I live would go to the mall on the 24th for a PS4 (unless it was for southern relatives, but even then...) when there are two other GS stores and a Target in a less than half a mile radius. It took her longer to park than wait in line, and the wait was long enough to hit all three stores. And yes, I am the type of person that had to check and see if the other stores had PS4's, which they did.

Mine's supposed to be arriving today! :D The biggest question I have right now though:
Which game do I go for first out of:
1) Ratchet & Clank (something fun and simple to dive into)
2) Horizon Forbidden West (massive open world, real PS5 showcase material)
3) God of War Ragnorok (bigger than R&C, smaller than HFW, incredible story to look forward to)
R&C and GOW you can finish them then finally take your time in the open world of HFW, but main thing is.. congrats! on getting a PS5, hope you enjoy it to the fullest.

Another youtuber, John Glasscock, warned not to blow compressed air into those holes. As it could push dust further in to the system. Thus harder to remove without doing a deeper tear down of the outer shell. Also, I think he was implying that the dust being pushed deeper into the system could be damaging.
He suggested only vacuuming them.
I was AMAZED to walk in to Target the other day and see a PS5 in the case! This is seriously the first time since its release that I've seen one in the wild... Of course, I sourced one through Sony last spring, so I left it for someone else.

For me the controller charge stand is the #1 accessory you cannot skip out on. These controllers have a TERRIBLE battery life.
When they are charging if you have two controllers it allows you to swap them out if you run out of battery life. You shouldn’t run into issues ever in this scenario. But if you don’t have the charge stand i can guarantee, if you’re a gamer at all, you will run into problems
if possible play with charger in controller
Sony are terrible this generation. Very Anti Consumer. The real reason the battery life sucks is so you buy a second controller and alternate while one charges. Dirty tricks at play.
You can go into your controller settings and turn the controller lights to dim, which helps a bit. It’s still not great battery life, but it’s significantly better with them at their bright setting, which is default for some reason😂
@@WillieJasinski good tip, I will turn mine down to dim. As far as I'm aware the lights on the controller are only used for VR.
@@benbritton1984 no it’s talking about the blue light around the track pad, you can click the home button, click the controller icon where it shows your battery, and then controller settings, and you can change it to dim👍🏼 it dims that light, so hopefully that helps🙏🏼

I had that problem with which way the disc goes the first time I got my PS5. It said insert disc and we'll install the game while you finish setting up and then it wasn't installed at all cause I put the wrong way the first time 💀
I remember the first time I played alien isolation on the PS4. I was hiding in a closet from the Xenomorph. My wife came into the room to ask me a question. And I didn’t realize that the microphone on the controller was set to on by default. Well the Xenomorph heard her. And immediately killed me. 🤣🤷🏻♂️ 9:40

Yes I had no idea what way the game went. It was a 50/50 chance. I got it wrong the first time and then once I flipped it, I was up and running. I don’t have many physical games but when I do load a disc game, I forget and it’s a chance scenario once again
It took me a few times for it to register.
One thing I ran into was I directly moved my usb slow external hard drive to the ps5 for cold storage. My ps4 was not happy I wond up factory resetting it. I probably would have just gotten a new drive if I thought that would happen and just redownloaded the games

Got one for my bday a couple weeks ago and the disc thing really messed with me. I figured it out quickly but it shocked me that the silver side was away from the console.

Yep, I have noticed this at well. I wonder what kind of long term affect it will have on the disc. The PS5 is a space heater.
Always have problems getting those plates back on after I take them off.
I just recently gifted my PS5 some aftermarket red panels + a red dual sense controller Merry Xmas to my PS5...🤗
I’ve had the PS5 since November and would honestly never have place disks with the reflective side facing the right side of the console vertically, as I’ve only had digital versions of games played on it. The only physical disk I have for anything at this point is the PS4 version of TLOU remastered

I was finally able to get a PS5 earlier last week on my birthday, and I wasn't able to get the disc orientation right the first time, lmao. It makes sense when the console is on its side, which was the way I had to set it up in my entertainment center, but is definitely trippy when the PS5 is stood upright. Feels counterintuitive
why? ps4 and ps3 did it same way?
