This game literally introduced me to the concept of death. When I was about 4-5 after I killed Kline, I thought he would go back to normal. I was so upset and cried and my parents had to explain it to me. I battled from that day forth, for my homeboy Kline.
Fun Fact, This game never saw a true sequel because the creators thought it was too depressing. So they slapped Alundra 2 on a game that had nothing to do with Alundra.
Maybe so. It saves yourself a lot of disappointment. But Alundra is a good game all the same. I suggest you check it out if you can. The puzzles are great and difficult.
The source is Matrix Software. Alundra 2 did not star Alundra despite the namesake. It was also DRASTICALLY lighthearted compared to Alundra. The original interview with Staff of Matrix Software was lost when RPG Realm (Unsure if that's the actual website name as it has been lost) went down. They did not want a direct sequel to Alundra as the previous story was greatly disheartening and almost like a Greek tragedy. Instead what we got what was supposed to be a new IP. But in light of new franchises falling quickly, they decided to slap the Alundra namesake to it to boost interest and sales. Alundra 2 itself was lackluster and ill conceived story and plot. A sad bread and butter of sorts. The action/RPG element was bastardized. To top it off? Matrix Software took a backseat to the development process. Contrail (Legend of Legaia, Wild Arms 2) were given quite the leeway in the development. I am tempted to believe this is why we've not heard from them in a while. That and Matrix Software mostly develops throwaway titles for smart phones these days.
Alundra, bleibt auf ewig in erinnerung für die junge playstation generation, als ein meisterwerk im rollenspiel/abenteuer. starke rätsel, unterhaltende geschichte und für damals eines der spiele mit toller grafik/musik.
The game was cursed for me. Every time I got to the last boss battle or just after, there was a power surge or power outage that ended up killing my memory card, and I would have to start from the beginning again.
Alundra should be rebooted into the same philosophy of Zelda BOTW with an open world that the first game was in 2D on PS1. It would be glorious on PS5 and I will be there on day 1.
My friends recommended this thing to me, because it was just like Zelda ALTTP.... yadda yadda yadda This is the Dark Souls of the Action Adventures . To be serious. This game was difficult, but on a fair challenge. The artwork, concept, gameplay, story, music and sounds were great. I really, really recommend this to everyon, who likes action adventures/roleplaying games.
This game was so sick and so long.. I never managed to finish it.. but watching it now I remember was an open world full of places where to go, hidden bosses and that depressing vibe was making this game awesome. I think it's still playable it didn't age at all since indie studios are still making games like this
@@maenadvey4353 Depressing ? I don't think so, you still have some sad moment in the game (Jesse's death for example), but some places are so fun to play (Meia's dream, monkey's tree, Kline's dream...)

I think it's because he is very long lived and maybe beneath his stony outer body his inner body started to decay maybe? That's the impression I always got. Plus he's not human, he's an object of humans faith so maybe that's what they all looked like?
As someone who's currently paying Alundra (thanks to this video actually), I do think the lack of infuriating platforming is a major plus for the Zelda games, especially with the poor depth perception. I've lost count of the number of times I've jumped towards a block that looked like it was to my right, when it was really to my right and down, but also a block higher. Still, it does offer an interesting story. It's sad that so many people (Including me up to this point) had never heard of it.
( Pedro M ) better than zelda? sorry kid, but that's a long stretch even for a loser with sarcasm to boost... you should give thank to zelda for paving the way for these types of games to even become a possibility to making it in history.
@@arcaderkid8449 I guess he was referring to Zeldas of the time and older ones, which Alundra outmatch considerably... Not only for the history, also the puzzles were smarter and the mechanics and secrets were way superior that the ones you encounter in Zelda and I love ol' Zeldas but this is a factual argument, you just need to play both games to see it.
@@pepebotella1194 already have kid in my hayday. Good games. If I don't point it out than everybody be walking in a perfect shape. Which is impossible 🤪
GOOD GAME! BUT THE EARLY BOSSES WERE SO HARD ! TOOK SO MANY TIMES TO PUT THEM DOWN ! this end by the way, i renember this game were so lon, look only the boss rush took one hour!
Were they? I haven't played this, but he sure made them look easy. From my outsider's view it looked like he was just walking around and slashing blobs that did nothing but shuffle around? Was it the controls that made it hard?

lol for those deaths they reward you with a supreme ultimate sword
props for doing this at that age man
One of the best games on ps1 and one of my favorites. Big hug from Brazil.
Vamos se abraçar sim
Ah, Alundra. Such a good game!
I mean, I have a few notes.
It is and was. Ahh, if only my copy didnt destroyed in the rain one nite

Well it was depressing! Numerous people in the game died as the game played out, including some fan favorite characters.
Huh...I only played Alundra 2 (and enjoyed it). Maybe that's for the best, that I come to discover the truth in this fashion.

I feel your pain, once I beat this game I deleted the rom from my PC (good thing I didn't pay actual money for this game)
Maruko Chan 99 please inform me how to get this game for free. I miss it so.

I am glad people are still playing this game after 23 years...
The Best Zelda-like game. Heck, may be even better than some of the Zeldas themselves!

This was a great game on the PS1 and definitely one of the hidden gems. Shame I never got around to completing it but still got my disc somewhere.
Amazing game. PS4 needs to have gems like these on the store
"Reptilicus Maximus", huh? Let's pray it would be a name that is as cool as, "Bigus Dickus".
In a few words:
Embrace the hero's journey, understand the sacrifices made...oh, and there's boss battles.
Good times!
The hardest dungeon and boss for me was in Kline's dream.
My favourite ps1 game. I wish it was made available on all platforms and next gen. Would stil play it
Such an excellent game, especially if you like Zelda. The puzzles are usually a lot harder and the storyline it's fucking dark.

Great game, brilliant kinda scarey atmosphere, good music. Such a gem. Shame they don't make them like this anymore.
Puzzles are mindrotting
Hey shadowserg what would be your final boss rush in the future and would you stop doing them? I apologize if I came off as rude
Definitely better than Zelda.
Story, tone, artstyle and animation etc takes the edge over most 90s Zelda titles. Gameplaywise, not exactly
This game is like the PS1's Dark Souls.
Not really...

thanks for the awesome video!!,good memories with this game,i love it!.
Isn't Meia's " I spy a cutie guy" game kind of a boss fight too? but seriously that game brings so many memories, and it made me cry alot as a kid.

I was thinking of emulating some ps1 games, this one seems pretty cool.
First PS game I ever owned. In fact, I owned the game more than a year before I bought the system. I was a weird child.
my favorite game ps1

I still have no idea why Nirude fell apart whilst he was chasing you, to reveal a creepy looking flayed zombie giant beneath his stone skin?

Better than any Zelda, yet no one talk about it. Ok, i understand that one then is part of a cult never to be challenged.

I heard something like the final dungeon has a time limit, or you had to do certain actions at certain times to beat it?
No, there is no time limit.
The bosses can get quite scary.
Hero view like Landstalker, but game like The Story of Thor.
I played alundra2 first before knowing this exist, after played it im confused because nothing linked with the alundra2 game
This is the most tedious first boss I had ever seen
What does that have to do with the game's first fight looking dull? If he said it looked hard, then your response would make more sense.
EMagnificent do you even know meaning of the word "tedious"?
IIRC they boosted boss health pool for the US release.
never played this part but I did play the second alundra
Alundra have yellow hair ingame red hair in video wow
The same way Link had brown hair in the cartoon series.
Where's alundra 2?
It should remake on the PS4
fun game but i dont think i swore so much in my life or since then.
Is this game related to Landstalker?
Not at all, but some people consider Alundra a "spiritual successor" of Landstalker.
fight against a stone golem with a dagger 😜
This video must have been painful to make
Terranigma?
