    It is not about relativity, though. If it was, you would have placed clave to different meters, right?

      It’s about the relative distance between the notes of the rhythm. As long as those distances stay constant relative to each other, then rhythm will sound the same. This allows for changes in tempo. However, to keep the relative distances the same , you have to use the same subdivision, which is why the claves is based on 16th notes.

      Yes precisely! As long as the relative spacing stays constant, the rhythm can be sped up and slowed down.
