    ^^ See this link for more info and tips on using jump rings.^^
    In this free jewelry making video I'll show you the correct way to open and close a jump ring. Jump rings are metal rings where the ends meet but are not welded or soldered together. Jump rings are the components used in making chainmaille, as well as for connecting jewelry components together such as attaching a clasp to a chain or cord.

    Very informative video! I always mess up when I have to close the jump ring because it never seems to close perfectly. After seeing your video, I now realize I need to wiggle it instead of squeezing it from the side, something that always spoils the shape of the jump ring. Now I know better, thanks to you! 😀

    Thank you for making this video. It shows very clearly how to open/close a ring. I have to go back to the store to buy more rings because I have one pack that's too small for the intended purpose (so I used them to practice your technique) and another pack that's the right size but made of stainless steel, which is too soft (bendy). Anyway, thanks again. I'm going to subscribe to your channel and watch more of your videos.

    Whoops! I've made several pairs of earrings and have been just putting the tips of a set of pliers in the ring and opening them up. Definitely trying this next time!!

    Are there hooks that can act as a Jump Ring? I bought earrings on clearance and the hook is too thick for the hole in my ear. I am planning on buying hooks and attaching the dangle design onto the hook. The dangle design is soldered shut.

    • @JewelryTutorialHQ
      @JewelryTutorialHQ  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! Most ear wires should have a way to attach to a ring like that that's soldered closed. For example - like these: th-cam.com/video/CNqtjKtpHEY/w-d-xo.html
      You can make them yourself or buy some like these. The loop at the bottom should be opened and closed just like a jump ring. Hope that helps!

    • @JewelryTutorialHQ
      @JewelryTutorialHQ  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Martine! Sorry for the late reply. I would suggest using thicker gauge jump rings if possible. The thicker the rings the stronger they are. Hope that helps@

    Thanks! I'm having problems with jump rings applied to a an earring finding leaving the earring facing forward and not sideways. Any remedies for this? thank you!

    • @JewelryTutorialHQ
      @JewelryTutorialHQ  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +sk8aholic Henderson Yes! You can either use another jump ring attached to the first one, or if you can twist the loop on the earring finding to the side that would fix it as well. Hope that helps, thanks so much for visiting!

    • @nancyh9125
      @nancyh9125 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I really detest working with jump rings and split rings - hard to connect 2 pieces of polymer clay.

    • @JewelryTutorialHQ
      @JewelryTutorialHQ  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +sk8aholic Henderson Do you ever embed the rings in the clay before baking? That might be easier than drilling if that's what you do, but then you'd also have a lot more rings between your links. Might be fun to play with though!

    • @nancyh9125
      @nancyh9125 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried embedding the rings in the clay only to have them come out very easily after baking!

    • @JewelryTutorialHQ
      @JewelryTutorialHQ  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +sk8aholic Henderson Dang, that's too bad! I'll let you know if I find a good solution that works.

    My jump rings keeps falling apart😞the bracelet keeps opening up

    • @JewelryTutorialHQ
      @JewelryTutorialHQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Charlene! It sounds like you probably need a thicker gauge jump ring, and possibly a smaller diameter too. The smaller / thicker rings are going to be much more sturdy. Hope that helps!
