I have found is that the electrode is the largest factor. I personally sharpen mine every 2-5 welds. So that I can get that consistent weld every time. If you do that then it is likely the power being too high. I am about 5-6 on 24AWG gold and silver jump rings. I only use solid gold jumps even when using GF chain. I found that it welds much better and looks better too. I hope that helps!
