    The Party Thor and Star Lord episodes are my favorite because they make good use of the fun guest characters and they're the least serious.
    Because the writing in What If in general doesn't seem good enough to properly pull off serious storylines (also the truncated episode lengths). The whole thing feels a bit "Saturday morning cartoon" to me. It's almost like because it's animated they felt they had to make it a bit more appealing to/appropriate for children, which isn't a bad thing, but it does sorta limit how invested I can get.

  • @SpirusOfH
    @SpirusOfH 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    The Thor episode was the only one that knew what it was. All the others tried to be both serious and humorous and they generally took themselves too seriously. The Thor episode knew that it was a fun, animated, 30-minute episode to fuck around with the characters in alternate scenarios. That's why I think it's the only one that really worked for me.

    Best part was Uatu's flip out: WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?! That needs to be the new meme.
    Also Killmonger is a Villain Sue (villain version of a Mary/Gary Stu, those do exist). The writing has to dumb everyone down to make his plans happen at all. Tony Stark should have been in the final battle since in the main, live action earth Tony did create Ultron.
    Having an alternative Tony react to another universe version of himself made a murder bot would have been a shock to the system for him. That was a big missed opportunity.

    6:15 the reason the criticism is there (for me) is because even in his timeline he couldn’t even convince Killmonger to step outside of his mindset so you want me to believe the much older set in his ways character, Thanos, who killed his daughter for his convictions was convinced by THIS guy, with even less experience in life, to stop his ways. This is also the same T’challa who with a Wakandan army couldn’t stop Thanos’s forces out right. Like T’challa is a great leader, but this episode makes him a Gary Stu when he wasn’t that before

    9: Zombies (weird tone, nothing felt important or fulfilled, the most unconnected from film events)
    8: Captain Carter (Just Captain America, but with weird little Steve sidekick)
    7: Thor (cool fight, but terrible, embarrassing stakes,..... they were trying to KILL Thor, right?)
    6: Killmonger (Changed a lot and interesting concept, but unfulfilling)
    5: T'challa (Fun romp/ heist, cool change of character for Starlord, but why do Thanos like that?)
    4: Mightiest heroes lost (good murder mystery, nice straightforward changes, and cool ending)
    3: The Watcher (most heroes unnecessary except Doctor Strange, enjoyable fight nonetheless)
    2: Doctor Strange (great story, fight, time loop, and ending, but not believable that he'd do it for love)

  • @comicalpeculiarity6174
    @comicalpeculiarity6174 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Alright, since you asked at the end. I think that this show has some bad writing overall
    1. Avengers Murder Mystery: The BEST in my humble opinion. It made perfect sense considering Hank Pym’s opinion of the Avengers in Ant-Man and how he could efficiently execute them systematically if he so pleased. Showed how unstoppable Ant-Man could be if he tried. Good developments and it was viable considering that it’s confirmed that all the movies it pulls from occurred in the space of a week. Not to mention it’s memorable ending of take over but a possibility at fighting back with a still unfrozen Captain America and Captain Marvel. Overall, it’s a chef’s kiss episode
    2. Killmonger saves Tony Stark: Liked this one a lot. It’s viable, the chain effect makes sense and it unravels rather interestingly. I liked Killmonger’s dynamic with Tony and the episode just proved how much of a downright evil person Killmonger is. Every revelation and death made me like it even more, how badly the universe devolves from one minuscule change
    3. Ultron wins: I both really like and don’t like this episode. It gives good Ultron representation, I as an Ultron fan was pleased to see him tear ass through the universe but there were SOOOOO many writing issues that brought me out of it. How did Hawkeye and Black Widow survive in an irradiated wasteland? Why did Ultron go the long way to exterminate all life instead of just doing it from the get go with one definitive snap? How did the Infinity Stones work outside their home universe? This one got an answer but said answer is also stupid so I won’t even acknowledge it. It was just perfectly balanced with the stuff I liked and didn’t like, as all things shouldn’t be
    4. Party Thor: Ok, fun but it made me constantly question why characters were there. The idea doesn’t make sense because even in the MCU, Thor is a rambunctious and cocky punk after growing up with Loki. The concept should’ve been what if Thor was a party animal which, as a Norse God, he practically already is. Action is fun and there’s some neat interactions but that’s it
    5. Guardians of the Multi-verse: Average. Characters quickly accept this mind boggling situation and get to it. Their chemistry doesn’t feel earned because the team interacts so little and the assortment is random at best. Strange Supreme does all the work and is the best on this team but the rest feel like dead weight. Killmonger doesn’t contribute at all to the victory aside from attacking Ultron a little and he ultimately betrays the team. The Watcher should’ve had the foresight to keep him off given that he watched the events of Killmonger’s universe unravel prior. Black Panther Star-Lord, Captain Carter and even Party Thor felt so useless on this team and I had to remind myself it was a Tv show in order not to say ‘why didn’t the Watcher enlist those guys from the comics? They’d pretty easily solve this.’ It did conclude the other plot threads from the other episodes neatly so I’ll give it that
    6. Strange Supreme: It’s just the time machine. Dudes fiancé dies so they find means to go back in time but are unable to circumvent it causing said fiancé to die continuously. It’s interesting visually and Strange Supreme is very charismatic and fun to see on screen, no doubt due to his performance. However it introduces more inane rules that conflict with other MCU rules. Splitting timelines but keeping them in the same universe and absolute points in time are garbage ideas and I despise them. It’s fun but not great, far from it
    7. Marvel Zombies: Terrible tonal consistency to what makes this episode lesser. It couldn’t balance darker themes with its comedic elements and that really hampered any effect it could’ve had. There was a neat scene or two but it was by all means average, I appreciate it way more though for the FIRST UNCLE BEN MENTION! JESUS, the MCU treats it like it’s the plague and feigned it for so long that a god damn animated spin-off beat them to it
    8. Captain Carter: Bad. It’s not terrible but it’s a beat for beat retelling of First Avenger with minor variables rearranged. I don’t like how Howard Stark made the Hydra Stomper, didn’t really make sense to me due to the setting. If he had the Tesseract, why not implement into standard warfare like Hydra did in the main timeline? It also feels like the Hydra Stomper would be very susceptible to regular artillery, even with the power source. It had some nice action but the ending bogs it down for me because in the span of ten seconds this woman from the forties just up and accepts that she’s been whisked decades into the future. First Avenger’s ending is so iconic because you can say the confusion on Steve as he struggles to understand the world around him before making a remark that stuck with him out of disbelief. Milk toast man, it isn’t that special of an idea
    9. Blank Panther as Star-Lord: The worst by far for me. Respect to Chadwick for giving a good performance but I despise this episode. T’challa is an utter Mary Sue that just solves all the problems in the universe by himself and it feels like the story is continually praising him. This is to the point of mocking Peter Quill’s character excessively to the point of saying everything would be objectively better if he wasn’t Star-Lord. As Nando v Movies put it, fuck Peter for bearing trauma over his mother contracting cancer and dad abandoning him at an early age before getting abducted by Yondu who was objectively more aggressive and hostile towards him growing up. It just left a sour taste in my mouth simply put

    I’m gonna admit I didn’t really enjoy this series as a whole. The ending was enjoyable but overall it was pretty poorly paced, and had some weird and unsatisfying arcs. I don’t know if it was due to pressure from producers to just cram stuff in but a lot of the stories clearly didn’t fit properly within half and hour episodes. They should have either cut stuff or made the episodes longer.The only episodes I though were actually, genuinely good was the Dr. Strange episode and the Party Thor episode, even though they’re kind of opposites. They were weld told stories with memorable moments and were pretty well paced. The murder mystery one was by far the worst though.

    Even though there's lack luster stuff in what if, and it didn't go as crazy as I wanted for every concept. The final 2 episodes are everything I wanted out of this series. That's a fully realized MCU Ultron, and its glorious.
