      History The history of Hackintosh began back in 1988, with clones of Macintosh computers, as well as with hardware emulators for household computers, such as Amiga or Atari ST.

    Super surprised those old dogs work so well! I remember giving an old girlfriend a G3 I repaired and got dumped because it was so slow. That was nearly 20 years ago... now she has 3 kids to 3 different fathers, sometimes it pays being slow with family planning lol.

    Nice to see these systems still in action! Had no idea Rhapsody could run as a Hackintosh system, also very cool that you were able to modify a NextStep driver for Rhapsody! It also fits in with the design of the Toshiba, doesn’t look out of place. The rest are classic 2000s computing, the hardware and software might be old, but it doesn’t mean it’s obsolete!

    • @alextirrellRI
      @alextirrellRI ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rhapsody had an official x86 release, but I guess the supported hardware must have been pretty limited. My dad got a copy for working for an Apple Retailer but for some reason that x86 disc never worked. Not sure if it was a wacky format or just a defective disc.

    • @TheOriginalCollectorA1303
      @TheOriginalCollectorA1303 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, Rhapsody is a pretty unique OS to use, also not as common as Mac OS counterparts. Never used Rhapsody before and I don’t have much experience with similar era Mac OS versions, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Rhapsody itself causes some problems. Best way to check though would probably be to look at officially supported hardware, if any information is available.

    Cool to see. I've been wondering lately how well the early Hackintosh methods had been preserved. It'd be fun to run some of the older milestone OSes alongside a modern one but I guess drivers (especially graphics) is going to the be major factor.

    Apparently the HP Mini 311 is a worthwhile platform to hackintosh a bit because it's an Nvidia Ion platform same as the 2009 macs with the 9400M. same chipset and such. but a little birdie told me that with the latest Icelord unlocked BIOS it should be possible to BGA solder on an Atom 330, shim the CPU and nForce chip instead of using thermal pads, and get dualcore out of the platform PLUS 64-bit OS support.

    @dosdude1 thanks for the vid! Really enjoying snappiness of 10.6.8 on my UX using VaioHackandWin7 image, however there are some annoyances - wondering if you had them too and maybe found a way to address them:
    -mic monitoring being constantly on and causing an audio feedback loop when volume is high enough
    -brightness not adjustable and staying at levels last used on windows
    -trackpoint being super sensitive to press
    -screen turning white on all non-native resolutions
    -random occasional kernel panics on boot (proceeds fine if it boots up)
    also have you tried running a patched 10.7.2 on UX/TX?

    Do you have plans to figure out how to increase the RAM in the Sony UX to 2GB? My understanding from previous attempts is that it has been attempted.

    • @dosdude1
      @dosdude1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Vaio UX uses 8 1Gbit 16-bit memory chips. A single rank of memory must be made up of 64 data bits. The Intel 945 chipset it uses supports no larger than 1Gbit chips, regardless if they are 16-bit or 8-bit. If they used 16 8-bit 512 Mbit chips instead (where 8 8-bit chips made up a 64-bit rank instead of 4 16-bit chips), then you COULD upgrade to 2 GB, by way of using 16 1Gbit chips. But because they use 1Gbit chips already, you can't go any higher.

    You are a pure genius! I will try your modifications on the macbook 2011 i got as a present. I tried software solutions to disable the gpu but unfortunately not working. There is chime and the machine is loading but totally black screen. I will take that resistor which controls the voltoge to the gpu first and then i will apply those brightness patches. I would like to order your solution but unfortunately here in middle east we it wont be easy for me. And maybe i can apply some egpu solution after. I already bought ssd and 16 gigs ram for that macbook pro and waiting for the soldering machine i ordered online. I learnt a lot from your videos. Thank you very much! By the way if i also buy usb to hdmi cable for external monitor support, do you think it will work? since the hdmi output hardwired to the minidisplay-thunderbolt of that machine, maybe i thought i can use it in that way.
