    I don't understand how they're so picky but almost everything in their stores looks overly worn and beat up, especially their shoes

      Not for juniors items. Baby clothes yes. You'll get about the same amount if you do. Just make sure to take the right items to the right stores. I always have my items bought from these stores cuz I do research and I call ahead of time & ask them what they're looking for atm. Each store is different.

    About a year ago I went into Plato's Closet and tried selling name brand clothes (Roxy, Bilabong, Hollister) which were in excellent condition but they accepted nothing. I asked for the reason and was told "Oh, we only want the very latest and greatest fashions that are at the mall and within the last 6 months". Okay, I don't see very many people buying the "latest fashions at the mall" at FULL-PRICE then turning around and selling it at a VERY steep discount to Plato's Closet. Why would anyone in their right mind do that when so many places have lax return policies and someone could get their FULL money back?? The only reason I can come up with is that unless people are STEALING the "latest fashions at the mall" so that they can turn any sort of profit from Plato's Closet I really don't see how this place stays in business. Plato's Closet probably does not even realize how much of their product could be stolen merchandise LMAO. All I can say is that I'll never do business again with PC.

    They have to be picky, because what they buy goes into their store. The whole point of buying clothes from people is so they can resale it in their store for consumers to purchase. If something is out of style, faded, damaged or ruined nobody is going to buy it, then it's just going to sit there. The whole point is so they can make profit.

If they are expecting people to bring in new clothes what a waste look at poshmark or thredUP. Those are places for new/high end clothes. Plato’s closet is just one step up from goodwill. Even once upon a child takes used clothes.

    Like it wasn’t even the cute things from those stores. But like the velour from those stores that litter every Salvation Army 😂 like If I wanted Kmart and Walmart clothes I could have just gone to Kmart and Walmart, not Plato’s Closet.

    It’s so funny because when I went to the Plato’s Closet in my state I tried selling a Red Satin Bralette style type of crop top that was in perfectly new condition. I had bought it the month prior, never wore it, never took the tags off. I just changed my mind on the item and F21 wouldn’t take it back. Anyways, the girl at Plato’s tried to tell me they couldn’t take it because the item is more than a year old. I told her I purchased it the month before that I could show her my online order receipt. So then she said “it’s probably because it was worn and showed it on the clothing item” so I explained that I never wore it and it still has the tags so that’s impossible. So then she was like “oh then it’s cause we’re not really accepting clothing pieces of that style because it doesn’t really fit for what Plato’s Closet represents” (but when I was waiting for them to go through my bag I saw almost the exact top except black leather with a zipper sitting on a rack) lolllllll. The girl just tried to make up every excuse, mind you, she was the one who was going through my bag and she didn’t even have a solid answer. It was just annoying and shows how ridiculous they are. Also they offered me $7 for a pair of never worn Fashion Nova skinny jeans. Smfhhhhh lmfao

    Tried to sell my 90s Doc Martin's. Great condition. They told me nobody buys those anymore. Put them out for our garage sale and gave them to a homeless teenager who was so happy to get them. Much better than selling the them.

    I work at Plato's. Let me explain a few more things:
    For my place, we check the dates on the tags to see if it is within the last two years--if it has a date. If it is, then we can take it. Logos are also an indication of time.
    We don't take brands that are too mature for us, like NY&company, and we don't take expensive brands like Gucci. We stick with teens and twenties styles that are easier to verify.
    As for stains and stuff, sure mistakes in the sorting process happens, but when dozens of people try on clothes, they could accidently tear or stain it.
    Some clothes may seem like they would do great for us, but we try to keep styles as current as possible by studying what gets sold more and what doesnt, and what the common trend is for the clearance section.
    It also may look like that lady only took 10% of the clothes, that doesn't mean it's always the case. Sometimes we take everything, or a big majority, and we pay $150 or so for their clothes.
    This all may seem misleading, but we are trying our best.
    If you read this far congrats. You deserve a cookie. I know this vid is old, but if you have any questions, you know what to do.

      is it worth trying to bring in like target brand clothes? i have like a north face jacket and some pink clothes etc. and i think i will get money from them but im not sure about target and jcpenney brands. advice?

      @jordankaster6080 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. We take in those. But its hard to say unless we look at them whether or not we can take it. But Pink by vs is big, and we can pretty much take any north face.

    Plato’s closet isn’t goodwill, they don’t get clothes donated to them. And not all stores are like this, each Plato’s closet is individually owned and although they have a similar process of going through clothes you have to understand that nobody wants to buy worn, torn or stained clothing. If you don’t like the offer they give you then you can decline and leave. This video is also 10 years old and it’s bound to be different now and for every other clothes. There is no estimated amount in which you can generally be given, each item purchased has to be entered into the computer manually under a specific brand and quality. And if you aren’t pleased with the quote given to you then you can always sell it yourself at a garage sale or Facebook market place.

    My thoughts exactly. Common sense to retail workers: do not put tags on the fabric itself, but on the tag attached to the clothes. Also, I don't understand that whole "faded" nonsense either. I took in some really cute stuff in, made sure it looked like new and was in style. I walked out with my bag of stuff and $0.

    Hi there! We understand sometimes a small hole won't bother us. Unfortunately, to ensure that items in our store will sell, we cannot buy items with holes or spots. Since we are investing money in these items, it's sometimes risky to take the chance. Since we're a juniors store, we also don't have much luck selling woman's clothing since it's we cater to teens and young adults. Women's brands versus juniors brands size their items differently, which make them harder to sell. We hope that helps!

    I had close that still had tags on them that I just didn't want and I brought them in all from high end shops and I only got 11 dollars for every thing and then they told me they can't take all of it because it's out of date ? I had literally got them all with in a month from Banana Republic and old navy and aroepostol and a few from Hollister.... all with tags on them... I will never go back!

  • @tde2019

    Brought 8 bags and returned with 3 bags and a $150 check. Seems like they don't take Hollister and Abercrombie anymore as that is all that I was left with. Most of my Express and Guess stuff they took and I was expecting to get more because the stuff I brought from Express especially was in great condition and I paid a lot of money for it. All in all though I did get some extra cash and was able to clear some closet space in the process so you can't really go wrong.

  • @vgoth100
    @vgoth100 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yeah, Platos pretty much sucks big time for selling...I don't bother selling anymore unless I happen to have something I bought in the past year at the mall and never wore or ended up not liking for some reason, which is rare. I have sold to many other second hand stores (most local to me, not chain like Plato's) and its the same, they have to be choosy if they're a good store,, but Plato's is incredibly more picky. I know all the ins and outs (old styles, wear, rips/stains etc.) and still do NOT understand why I see so much crap on the racks at any given time....stuff that's ripped, worn, wrinkled, incredibly cheap (which it is in the mall too). I don't want your old ratty Hollister or Pink sweatpants.
    I still do shop there as I've found some decent deals on stuff I liked, when wading through a lot of junk. And their yearly dollar sale and grab bag sale are totally worth it.
    I don't have time right now to do online selling...and that can be a crapshoot too as the options are increasing so much now...so basically my apartment is starting to look like an episode of Hoarders....!
    I do like some stuff at Plato's, but their buy policy is fairly ridiculous.

    Depending on the overall demand of that style or brand, we may purchase an item that is a bit worn and just price it differently. But this varies between store location and season. Most of the time however, the faded items or those with holes, do not end up selling and can be a risky chance.

    its not just about stains or spots. they only take items that have been in the malls for less than 2 yrs... your lables in your clothes change, this in it self helps them in their buying process . now they may miss a hole here or there. sometimes it happens being after on the floor but when you touch a couple a hundred items you may miss something occasionally now i cant speak for every platos closet but ours here are great . back to the label comment for instant american eagle was large and block then round and cursive now anything from 2013 till now is a medium size type writer print. some labes will even have a date somewhere if your unsure.. just a little insight

    Hi Raquel! We understand that selling can be frustrating and can seem like we base it on our personal opinions but we do base it on what customers are looking for. Unfortunately, when a certain style, brand or item hasn't been selling well for us, it is an indicator that we should pass since we are spending money on each item. Although each Plato's is different (We're in CO + WY) so I would ask your local Plato's a specific reason why they passed on your items!

  • @melofacertainage
    @melofacertainage 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok, so if you ABSOLUTELY MUST SELL clothes to plato's or the other place buffalo something.
    This is what you do, you go to goodwill on dollar days, or go to savers' bins, then you call plato's and ask them what labels and items they're looking for, then look for those items at goodwill/savers, and take it to them to sell, and hope they buy a few things and you make a small profit, what you couldn't sell at one store try to sell it at the other store!!!

    We actually support several charitable organizations that give clothes to people that need them. Because of our stores, we are able to send hundreds of thousands of items to these organizations every year. We collect the items that we are not able to buy for our stores and we also donate the things that didn't sell for us. One of the organizations we work with, HELP International, fills containers of clothing and ships them all over the world wherever there is a need!

    Hello! Each store is different but some overall similarities are being extremely observant on the fit, construction, condition, length, brand, tag, stitching, age and demand of each item. It can seem daunting as first but it all comes naturally to you within time. Also, you'll be able to recognize what brands your friends are wearing just by looking at them. It's definitely an observant skill you take with you everywhere!

    That particular dress was an example of an item that is older than what we normally buy. There are some great vintage used clothing stores out there though!

    Our customers that are shopping with us, are looking for a value, so we price our things at around 70% off what they sell for new, and then are able to pay the seller 30-40% of what we're selling it for. So if something was $40 new, we'd sell it for around $12-14, and we'd be able to pay around $4-6 for it. We know it's a lot less than what was originally paid, but we are taking a risk that it will sell for us, and oftentimes we have to mark things down. Hope this help explain it!
