The reason you are unable to read the chip in circuit is because the entire board is covered with conformal coating to hold everything in place and help waterproof it. Enjoyed the video, nice work. Did have a question, how do you know the type of eeprom chip? Noticed you said that by experience you know what type of eeprom it was. Is the chip labeled or any reference material you can point me to? Thanks
So, all of the chips have numbers on them. If you google the numbers it will tell you what that chip is. Some 8 leg chips are eeprom. Some are mosfets. Some are can transceivers. So it takes some leg work to figure out what all the chips do. But eventually you’ll become familiar with the numbers.
If you want to just view it on a screen, I’m using an Eakins HDMI scope that can be plugged right into a monitor or tv If you want to film it, you’ll need a capture card to run it into a computer. I’m using an elgato camlink capture card to record it.

@@VoltageDropDiagnostics Thanks PJ, I am in Canada will keep Isaac # I wonder price deference between Canada an USA will check it and thanks for all the info u been sharing really much appreciated cheeeeers.
@@jgeorges3061 call him, and let him know that I sent you. He just said that sales between US and Canada aren’t region locked.
That's awesome man! Quick question for you tho.. where can a guy get a virgin bin file for a 9500 series eeprom chip out of a 08 aura BCM?
Could you change the vin with this 🤔
Is EEPROM data same on similar cars..?
This eeprom is similar on most other Toyota’s from this era.
Hi PJ. I have a problem with a Mercedes om501LA engine. No start. The engine controller is requesting a transponder code from the FR controller but the system does not work with a chip key. I'll be very grateful for any help.
Hi, i am wondering how you find the information, like which chip is for the im, ic900?
Tons and tons of research and googling lol
Awesome video !! This eeprom working is interesting . Any chance i can get the info on the camera set up your using to view the repair on the screen ?
If you want to just view it on a screen, I’m using an Eakins HDMI scope that can be plugged right into a monitor or tv
If you want to film it, you’ll need a capture card to run it into a computer.
I’m using an elgato camlink capture card to record it.
Anyone know if the ecm on a 2005 gmc canyon has a eeprom or if its inside the micro chip? And if it has a eeprom what the eeprom number would be? Gm only put house numbers on the chips and cant find a conversion chart.
hi sir please create video tutorial for eeprom program for rav4 2004 using obdstar.thank you
Sorry, i don’t have obdstar.
Why that extra work for solder "cleaning"?
Hi
This virgin file that you have, would that work for a Toyota Aygo? 🤔
Do you have a link to virginice, the ECU's?
I lost the key to my 06 Volvo can I get another hole and Mission switch from the junkyard
Would you be able to do this and use no key? I have a drift swap im doing and am missing the key I just want to use a button. Thanks in advance
Can you share your screen setup? Is that a camera attached to your magnifying glass?
Its an Eakins HDMI scope.
Great video, I have a im608 and I'm working on a 2002 highlander. I can clip on to the chip to read , getting all zeros. Any suggestions?
Doesnt sound like youre making perfect contact or the wrong chip style was selected
@@VoltageDropDiagnostics can i mail you my ecu it's t eeprom 1
2000 Toyota sienna xle i lost all the keys can u please do it for me i will PayPal or whatever how much $ u want
Thank you for the direct and to-the-point repair with just the right amount of diagnostic information, bravo.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome Pat! Would this be similar for newer toyotas? Where i live New Zealand there is now key reset or lost all keys function so all toyotas if the keys are lost it is an ecu replacement.
That’s a good question. Here in the US, all newer Toyota’s can be reset with a scan tool. We only needed this method up to about 2004 model years.
You might want to look into the autel im608. This has some cool features that might be able to save you from replacing the module on newer Toyota’s
@@VoltageDropDiagnostics Thanks! Will look into it. We can do 2 or 3 of these jobs a month so could be a worthwhile investment if works
@@MOTODANS i have another video using the autel im608 to go into a backdoor to program a key using a key emulator.
Might be what you guys need
@@VoltageDropDiagnostics Will check it out!
Pre 2004 Toyotas are eeprom like shown here, Then mostly programmed through the obd2 port until H chips came out which require quite a different process and special equipment. The Toyota proximity fobs require an emulator. So no is the answer. Ask a locksmith or get instacode.
Great video. Would you be able to answer my question. I have 98 3rd gen 4runner with all original keys missing. Right now I have one dumb key for the door and one for the engine and the security system is off. Can I get a new programable keys and reprogram one or will that BRICK (immobilize) the car? I believe that 98 3rd gen was the start of the immobilizer. I just want a key that I can remotely open and close the door and activate the security. Thx
Great video PJ! I’m looking into getting the im608 as well. How is the scanner part of the tool?
The diagnostic side of the IM608 is just as strong as the autel elite 908. It’s probably the best all around scan tool on the market in my opinion.
If you’re in the states, my buddy Isaac at NC auto rescue sells the IM608, and provides any necessary support with the tool.

@@VoltageDropDiagnostics hie .great works .does this work apply to any toyotas with 4c
Use sand paper to scratch off the glazing on the connectors so u can read it
Yeah, i started doing this! It has definitely helped!
Thanks!
Can you read keys and manually write them into the eeprom file with the XP400 ?
Yup, you can
I really love this video am new to eeprom and module programming I need a mentor I was wondering if you could be one.thanx
Do you offer work to the public. I have a 2jzgte vvti engine and was running it from a non immobilized ecu but I think the ECU died. I still have the oem immobilized ecu and would like to make it work. Can you help. Iv got $
Send me an email at voltagedropdiag@gmail.com
Excellent video. How do I create the file to virginize if I don't have it?
How do you add the chip/key when it's back in the car?
Have you ever done a brz or Toyota frs will you have to do the same thing to these vehicles?
Hi bro after you do that can the car start without transponder chip
No, i didn’t remove the immobilizer system. I just unlocked it so that it could go into automatic registration mode
Great video, PJ! Out of curiosity, what's your home soldering station of flavor (I'm guessing Hakko)?
So for automotive circuit boards where the components are relatively large, I use a Yihua 862BD thats in my amazon store. For smaller electronics like phones, I use a hakko microsoldering iron.
So how do we do this without having the "known good' copy of the codes that you had? Does that copy you had work for all of those chips across every brand? or is it just for Toyota?
How to know where the eprom is on the board
If I lost key and have an parts car can I take key switc and ecm in put in car
Nice work PJ. I don't think I would have the patience for this kind of work.
Haha. These components are relatively easy to work with. I bet if you gave it a shot, you’d get good at it fast.
I struggle with smaller components on cell phones and tablets.
Would you be able to help me with 2004 vw beetle tdi i lost the key and made a new one but wont start because of imobilizer
This is so god info, just bought the tool and trying to get as much info as possible! Thank you so much for sharing, this is awesome! Love from Sweden!
Awesome! Thank you! You're gonna love the tool!
I like the video will this work for Mitsubishi
how do you know what to look for and where to find the key info
What temperature & airflow speed do you use for the heater gun?
Finally you have done eeprom video.😀
Yeah! Finally!
By the way thank you for the eeprom video , I was able to make a key for 2001 Lexus GS 300 for my customer after I saw yours
Nice work!
excelent video, can you help me whit my corolla?, y need this virgen file
Hi ☺️ man great video
I want to do needle sweep on my cluster I have a Honda Fit. How do I find the byte on eeprom which I need to edit?
Hi pj can you reboot the eeprom in CAS in a mini cooper mine doesn't show that I put a key in any key and I've tried everything my BMW software doesn't even communicate with it and I just bought Abrites system for it and can not make that fix the car. mini ecu/dme went south and I've been trying to read and right to a used dme with Ktag before I owned Abrites and could never synchronize the Dme and CAS and the last time I sent Dme/Cas/Key toget repaired they stole my only working key this has been going on for a long time now. So my questions are can you rework the EEPROM to work in CAS and could you make a working key for a mini If I sent you my Cas ?
Honestly, I’m not super well versed in euros. Maybe head on over to super Mario diagnostics channel? He may be able to help you!
Plus, I’d like to learn from his answer as well.
@@VoltageDropDiagnostics thank's for getting back to me happy holidays
Or u can use a a DTC to usb and software to reprogramme the ic900 chip without taking out eeprom chip
Please elaborate - I have done this work without the soldering by getting the clam shell to connect to the chip on board, but I have not successfully found a path to leaving the EEprom in vehicle and programing through a USB. Its possible, I have done it with a multitude of wiring scenarios using the Autel G box with the XP 400, but never simply with a DTC to USB. which tool are you using? Because I need one.
Great Video PJ !!!
Really Enjoyed Watching !

Hi I have a 2006 Lexus GS300 3.0L AWD ECM#89666-30361 The ECM ,immobilizer ECU and the smart key computer were replaced The car cranks turns on and shuts off right away. The only code that I am getting is B2799 from the ECM. I have checked the two wires going from ECM to the immobilizer ECU and they are good. The ECM is from a junkyard i changed the Vin# and did a smart code reset with my Autel mi608 and I have tried to jump pin# 4 & 13 but no luck. So my question is can I Virginize the ECM like in the video if so can I use a 93c86 dump that I used to Virginized The smart key computer? I appreciate your help thank you
@@raycastillo3168 i haven’t done any eeprom work on newer Toyota’s. When you say that “the two wires are good” did you check them with an oscilloscope?
And how long did you jump the terminals? I usually jump them for 36 minutes
I jumped the pins for 30min then I tried for 45min multiple times with 2 different ECM’s
And the B2799 talks about 2 Cable’s from the immo pin#6 EFIO to the ECM pin#6 IMI and immo pin#5 EFII to the ECM pin#7 IMO are use the oscilloscope on the Autel Ultra
Try scraping Flux off of the pins for better connection. Its like a clear coat
I'm trying to enter this world of auto eeprom and I'm about to use your Amazon link for the Yihua 862BD. Are there any other useful tools you would advise for a beginner setup? Mainly starting with Toyota reflash & old Pacifica PIN reads then going to move into the BMW, Mercedes, VW world after getting comfortable with those.
