I had the 5088 trans code on my 2004 X5 e53. My gearbox is a ZFHP26. I replaced the transmission switch by removing the spot welds that connect the browm transmission switch to the TCM. I then found a used mechatronics unit from ebay for £100. I cut off the transmission swotch sensor (brown unit) and soldered it on to my TCM. All working fine now. Fixed for £100.
@@TechnoMonkeyFarm Unfortunately there was no online procedure for whar i did. My switch was spot welded so it needed to be cut. I have seen some switches with actual connectors. I can only assume thst the newer units have connectors instead of spot welds. Hope this helps
@@SFMSpecialist Hi, in my case I did not need to program the TCM, maybe because it was from the same type of car. However, there are many videos on youtube explaining how to do it if you need to. Good luck!
@@SFMSpecialist I had previously replaced the sleeves and cleaned the filter in the pan but when doing the TCM I didn't replace anything but I would recommend that if it solves your problem you replace the fluid later.
Hi, I have a problem with a BMW e60 3.0d 6hp26 gearbox, the car shifts perfectly except that when for example I get to the traffic light despite having my foot on the brake the car starts to force itself as if to move forward and to vibrate, I put it in N then in D and it starts again same thing also by putting my foot on the brake in R but it starts to force and vibrate, I washed and serviced the gearbox hoping it will be resolved but nothing, I repeat, the car shifts perfectly and it didn't give me any warning lights relating to it, putting on the diagnosis it gave me such as error 005088 and P0705
Hello. I have a problem with my 530i e60. I already changed fluid , filter with pann , bridge seal and the 4 tubular sleeves. On highway when engine temperature is at 90 it gets stuck on 3-rd gear and i get error message "gearbox failure". Thinking in changing the same part plus solenoids. What's your advice? Thanks
I also have the same problem with my E60 525i -03 with ZF6HP19 gearbox. Error code 5088 Transmission switch L1-L4. Already tried to change the shifter mechanism with a used one, but it did not help.
Thanks for the tip and now it finally seems to work. I bought a pre-programmed remanufactured TCM from China from a Ebay seller called idea-autoparts. It cost me 475$ and I did the labour myself.
Beniamin Palaghia I was able to find them as part of the valve body on eBay, unfortunately you probably have to buy the whole valve body to get the piece that you need. Hope this helps

Change the tcm and have it programed to match your vin

Also if you get lucky and find the exact same year and same model, it should just work for tcm.

There are 4 Transistors inside encapsulate and I suppose one went bad.
HiI have two errors 5089 and 5087 my gear shifter is stuck in park mode and it does not move it to any other mode.
