Wow that’s impressive. Like a surgeon on the operating table. Found this video because I have a 528 with a 8hp45 that is giving a p0890 code. Started after jumping someone off. When the code goes away it drives perfect for 4 days then it comes back. Stinks because I never know when it’s gonna happen and I end up stranded. All the shops want to do is replace the transmission which will cost me more than car is worth.

That part you will only find on Start/stop applications, This is known as the H.I.S Pump (Hydraulic Impulse Storage) Pump. When you come to a red light and the engine shuts off, this pump keeps the clutch packs charged with oil so when the engine starts up again there will be no delay on take off

You're going to excuse me because I have a lot of doubts because I don't know how to know if that piece doesn't work. That part can cause problems when changing gears. My BMW has knocks, the 2-3 gear from there runs fine. then I slow down and 3-2 makes the hit. What could it be, can you guide or help me? and in the scanner I don't get any errors
Good evening Gary, I'm back with an update. So I ran some testing on my 8HP45 in my 3 series BMW, with code 420641 "Parking Lock Defectively engaged". ISTA said replace mechatronics, so I just swapped out the mechatronics and installed a known working unit, and got it coded to my car Whelp, after all that, I'm still getting the same exact single code, and still cannot shift out of park. Every time I try D, N, or R it just kicks right back to P. I read it could maybe be an issue with the parking pawl, but some suggested that if that was my issue, I wouldn't be able to put it into park, whereas my issue is the opposite and I can't get it out of park. Any suggestions? Thanks! - Shane

What part number and what is the part name inside the trans ? Also, since you may answer, one more... Question; after a couple comments... my truck has the pentastar 3.6 with obviously the zf8hp45, I'm aware that the zf8hp70 is to handle more torque to mate onto the V8 hemi... Hi Gary, thanks for the video. I have an enquiry about my ZF8HP45 automatic transmission. The transmission oil was changed on 100,000 miles, and now the vehicle is on 139,000 miles. Recently, when the car shifts down from 6 to 5 and from 3rd to 2nd gear is kicking. I went to an automatic transmission specialist, and he ran a diagnostic. Have been following your videos for a while now and love them. I got a g30 530d, and there’s a strange problem. Car drives fine, but I get a P position not available error every time i park. Car physically goes into park (doesn’t roll as checked on an incline too). But still there’s the error, and the car can’t be locked remotely. Where do you suggest i look?
Hi there. I have a zf6hp-28 on a Jaguar and im getting p2704 friction element e apply time. It only happens after half an hour of driving. We have already replaced the E Clutches and bushes and accumulators. Any suggestions please ? as im at a lost. Many thanks.
you have 1 of 2 problems, either your rear stator bushing is worn or solenoids mechanically clogged. Being the fact that it happens when warm, i would think the rear stator bushing is your problem
Great video thank you. The 8HP in my 2014 Ram has started to slip and feels like it is trying to downshift briefly in any gear whenever the engine rpm is below 2000 ish and low load. If I manual downshift it engages fine and no real issues. No error codes. Any thoughts?
@@davidj5188 well, before you start going crazy with this, maybe try a shift adapt reset, may make the trans shift bad in beginning but as you drive it it should adapt, see if anything chages

I have a zf6hp26 on a 4.4l Land Rover 2006 that shifts perfectly and no codes but the 2 to 1 downshift thump on slowdown is driving me crazy. Would a valve body overhaul fix this? Truck has done about 150k miles
@@RobertDeWet-o1z That may be a valvebody problem, either the solenoid reg valve or lube reg valve can be worn, Transgo has a kit for that. Will have to ream out the bore for oversized valve.
Thanks Gary for the advice. Assume changing solenoids, bridge seal etc would not help as the transmission is operating as designed (other than the car behind bumping me every time I come to a stop 😅😅)

Hi Gary, I have a 2005 Land Rover LR3 4.4l. The transmission won't go into 1st gear, it's stuck at 4th gear per my scanner. I can't move it w/o shutting it off, starting it back on and shifting to 'D' right away to move the SUV, ten to 15 seconds later, it will not move again. Am I looking at a solenoid issue? Thank you.
Hi Gary, sorry for the late response and thank you for responding. My mechanic did not keep the old codes. They have basically swapped the transfer case module with a known good one in hopes of solving the issue, not sure what this would actually do? I scanned with my AutelBt906, the codes I was able to pull are p2789-00 Clutch adaptive at its limit (intermittent) and u1a35-4a Vin Data (permanent).
My ZF 8hp45 in my F30 335i is giving me one single code, 420641. It won't leave park, no matter if I try R, N, or D, it just automatically goes back to P. I ran it through ISTA and there was a test that had me turn the car on and off 10 times, and in between these cycles I'd have to attempt to put it in neutral. The final result was "replace mechatronics". Does this sound accurate? I figured if it was my mechatronics I'd be getting a lot more codes other than "420641 - Parking lock defectively engaged: plausibility, driver's command/sensor feedback". Figured I'd ask as you seem to know your stuff. Thanks!
@@GaryFerraro perfect, will do, thank you! That's where the mechatronic sleeve is, correct? I've read that often times fluid can bypass that sleeve and get into the actual connection part and mess things up, but wasn't sure if that was strictly with the 6HP's, or if the 8HP's were also prone to that. @@GaryFerraro Ok cool, I'll run out now and check that out. I did just swap the pan/filter and also fluid, along with following the proper procedure for fluid fill with getting it up to temp and whatnot. For further context, when this shifting problem started a few weeks ago, I got the car home and drained the fluid and it looked like a light colored chocolate milk. Further diag showed that the trans cooler/heat exchanger failed and I got coolant/ATF mixed together inside the trans. That's when I swapped out the parts/fluid and now that I have it all back together I'm still getting that same single code, and same transmission behavior. Hoping it's just maybe something simple like that sleeve, but it's just unfortunate as nobody that posts this error code typically follows up with what fixed their issue. Glad you are fast at responding though, I appreciate that.
@@GaryFerraro Just hopped under there real quick to take a peak, and it doesn't appear to be leaking from that sleeve. I read that mostly that's an indicator, is that you'll see a leak coming down the side of the trans right there. =/

The new one fixed that issue but now the car is giving me that stalling issue then giving me the transmission not in park message and can’t change gears anymore. Any thoughts on what that could be?

what is the definition of the code?
@@GaryFerraro the p0890 is TCM Power Relay Sense Circuit Low. The transmission code is 420531 output stages voltages supply: short circuit to ground.

It had a 12345 code which is interesting because that is the same code to get into my luggage. Awesome video I was waiting for this transmission.

I have not, just have to try your best to get the fluid out and refill with lifeguard 8
Why did you sent the torque converter to converter shop?Leakage? Stator problem ? TC clutches problem?😊

Yes the error code is 420636 - position sensor - electrical fault at L4

The 2-1 downshift bump, do you feel that when the car is hot?

Only thing you can do is check the fluid level and check your electrical connection at the transmission

Trans is full of fluid? Have you tried clearing the code?

It's giving a very strong smell of ATF in the cabin. Motor is putting out 600whp 550wtq
No other symptoms

The blue vent area is dry. Trans and motor are currently removed
