- In this video, i Teardown an 8 speed Transmission that basically stopped moving, The P2 Planet that splines onto the output shaft broke away from splines, Did the overhaul and worked real nice

Wow that’s impressive. Like a surgeon on the operating table. Found this video because I have a 528 with a 8hp45 that is giving a p0890 code. Started after jumping someone off. When the code goes away it drives perfect for 4 days then it comes back. Stinks because I never know when it’s gonna happen and I end up stranded. All the shops want to do is replace the transmission which will cost me more than car is worth.
what is the definition of the code?
@@GaryFerraro the p0890 is TCM Power Relay Sense Circuit Low. The transmission code is 420531 output stages voltages supply: short circuit to ground.

Do you mind telling me how you remove the split-rings in general, because when I read through the ZF-Repair-manual for the 5hp24 for example, they always mention a mandrel-press and Special-tools, so I was wondering how you do it? Anyway, very helpful and absolutely informative! Keep it up
I have a press and i found different size steel plates around the shop.

Thank you. My car shakes a lot when im driv8ng very slowly going up the hill. When i press the brake i feel something disengaging and the shaking stops. Could that be the lock-up clutch in the torque converter?

It had a 12345 code which is interesting because that is the same code to get into my luggage. Awesome video I was waiting for this transmission.

some dealers do and some do not, they probably think much easier to install a reman, dealers around here do trans work

Why did you sent the torque converter to converter shop?Leakage? Stator problem ? TC clutches problem?😊
I had the converter overhauled, part of the rebuilding process

Hi Gary, thanks for the video. I have an enquiry about my ZF8HP45 automatic transmission. The transmission oil was changed on 100,000 miles, and now the vehicle is on 139,000 miles. Recently, when the car shifts down from 6 to 5 and from 3rd to 2nd gear is kicking. I went to an automatic transmission specialist, and he ran a diagnostic. He checked for a leak, but no leaks or faults came up. What do you suggest I do next? Thanks in advance. Regards

Hi Gary great videos! You are very generous with your knowledge and time….kind of rare these days. I have a zf6hp26 on a 4.4l Land Rover 2006 that shifts perfectly and no codes but the 2 to 1 downshift thump on slowdown is driving me crazy. Would a valve body overhaul fix this? Truck has done about 150k miles
The 2-1 downshift bump, do you feel that when the car is hot?

@@user-xc6ry4bv2p That may be a valvebody problem, either the solenoid reg valve or lube reg valve can be worn, Transgo has a kit for that. Will have to ream out the bore for oversized valve.
Thanks Gary for the advice. Assume changing solenoids, bridge seal etc would not help as the transmission is operating as designed (other than the car behind bumping me every time I come to a stop 😅😅)

Including at the flexplate - as for inside the zf8hp45 ? What part number and what is the part name inside the trans ?

I'm aware that the zf8hp70 is to handle more torque to mate onto the V8 hemi...
Can I swap my zf8hp45 for a zf8hp70 ?

Hi Gary, have you ever had to tear down a 8hp45 or 8hp70 that someone had mistakenly refilled with ATF+4?
I have not, just have to try your best to get the fluid out and refill with lifeguard 8

should really apply around 50 psi, if you use to much you may not see a leak if there is one
Hi Gary, I have a 2005 Land Rover LR3 4.4l. The transmission won't go into 1st gear, it's stuck at 4th gear per my scanner. I can't move it w/o shutting it off, starting it back on and shifting to 'D' right away to move the SUV, ten to 15 seconds later, it will not move again. Am I looking at a solenoid issue? Thank you.
Has the car been scanned for codes?
Hi Gary, sorry for the late response and thank you for responding. My mechanic did not keep the old codes. They have basically swapped the transfer case module with a known good one in hopes of solving the issue, not sure what this would actually do?
I scanned with my AutelBt906, the codes I was able to pull are p2789-00 Clutch adaptive at its limit (intermittent) and u1a35-4a Vin Data (permanent).

Great video but I believe that's te not a zf the te845hp are made in America while the zf is German made , you can tell by the casing. Internals are all the same but I thought I'd point that out anyway.

That piece that you take out at minute 9:45 I want to know what it's called, what function it performs and what its function is. Can you help me on this issue by explaining it to me please?
That part you will only find on Start/stop applications, This is known as the H.I.S Pump (Hydraulic Impulse Storage) Pump. When you come to a red light and the engine shuts off, this pump keeps the clutch packs charged with oil so when the engine starts up again there will be no delay on take off
@@GaryFerraro Haaa that's fine I understand. But I would like to know if I put power to that pump, does it work? Or is it its function or how do you know if that pump has a problem?
You're going to excuse me because I have a lot of doubts because I don't know how to know if that piece doesn't work. That part can cause problems when changing gears. My BMW has knocks, the 2-3 gear from there runs fine. then I slow down and 3-2 makes the hit. What could it be, can you guide or help me? and in the scanner I don't get any errors

Trans is full of fluid? Have you tried clearing the code?

My 2014 328i is giving me a transmission not in park error message and right before that the car is stalling. I had recently changed the Mechantronics that came with new solenoids as the car was hard shift over 2k rpm’s. The new one fixed that issue but now the car is giving me that stalling issue then giving me the transmission not in park message and can’t change gears anymore. Any thoughts on what that could be?

@@GaryFerraro I have a check engine for mass airflow sensors but I replaced and it still has check engine light. Need to go check again. Is there a different way to check codes?

hook up a scanner and select transmission, have your key on and engine off, Do you have a scanner or know someone that does. Some cheap scanners may not be able to scan TCM@@CarlosGuzman-bs1vi

ive also been told : engine running; hot; (chock wheels); run slowly through R D S L back to parkP; check level
