3:30 Something interesting about this is that I have a 7 month old daughter. She’s currently in the process of learning how to sit and crawl and all that. I was just thinking recently about how we always try to protect our falls with our hands and legs. I was thinking about it because she DOESNT do that. She doesn’t have that instinct to protect her falls. She just hits her head. Which is fascinating to me because that has to be a learned response. Like, most people would say it’s instinctual, but we can observe the fact that it’s not because babies don’t have this instinct. It likely becomes a learned behavior by all the times we fall as kids.
There is a reflex called the parachute reflex, also called forward parachute reaction (FPR), that children should develop between 5-9 months, where babies will instinctively reach their arms out when they realize they’re falling. There is a study that showed that 21% of infants do not show a complete maturity of the FPR and that this also correlates to how fast they learn to walk. (I’m not saying anything is wrong with your child or anyone’s who doesn’t do this, but you should at least bring it up to your pediatrician if you haven’t already. [Development of the forward parachute reaction and the age of walking in near term infants: a longitudinal observational study Domenico MM Romeo, Matteo Cioni, Mariacristina Scoto, Filippo Palermo, Alessandra Pizzardi, Anna Sorge, and Mario G Romeo]
babies and toddlers don’t have their motor skills tuned yet. so it may not be fair to say they don’t have the instincts- they could have it and just be inaccurate performing it. doctors do test babies for something called the Moro reflex, where they’re checking to see if the baby reacts to the feeling of falling. it’s present in all newborns
4:58 when I was 14 they said my blood pressure was so high they wanted me to cut out all salt and see them a month later. When I came back it was still incredibly high. The doctor seemed confused and asked what I had been eating. I had also slimmed down because sports had started up again so it seemed that it should be fine but was alarmingly high. Then he paused and asked what color was the blood pressure cuff. The nurse had used a pediatric cuff and I had stopped growing at 13 and was an absolutely massive 14 year old who was far too big for a pediatric blood pressure cuff.
Growing up mom always told me “If you can move it it isn’t broken” I have since learned that this is not the case 😂 I broke my wrist a few years ago and didn’t go to the doctors for several months. I’m sorry Dr. Mike 😭

I am so glad that Dr. Mike is saying it's important to take blood pressure correctly because I had an assistant get mad at me when she was taking my blood pressure and I told her she shouldn't be asking me rapidfire questions and moving me while she's taking my blood pressure. I said can we wait a second and she was like "it doesn't matter" and then she got all petty and took it again and said "your pressure is even higher now" and I was like OF COURSE IT IS YOU'RE PISSING ME OFF.
As someone who was diagnosed with hypertension after having several high BP readings at drs,, the medications given always made me feel faint every single day, I hated it! I finally convinced them after several weeks of not high BP home readings to do a 24 hr ambulatory test, which concluded I actually have slightly low BP and diagnosed me with white coat hypertension! (this was weeks after I refused to take the alpha/beta blockers).
Yep, I told them to take my BP on my lower arm and the ambulance machine does not work - ignored. "Everyone gets upset!" "I run low, you daft, Assistant! Don't touch me again!"
Can't believe Mike didn't react to their Brosectomy video. I know that's not really an "injury" but it would've been fun to see his reaction and medical insights on that one 😄
I agree with the icing one. I sprained my ankle while living with my auntie and she never iced it once. She wrapped it and deep massaged it like twice a day and would very slowly roll my ankle around. It was sprained for about maybe 2-3 days before I could completely walk on it again. Auntie never iced, just massaged twice a day for about 5-10 minutes. I'm not at all saying that it's a hack but it seems it'll help more than just icing it and laying there waiting to heal. It did hurt, of course, when she was massaging it but with a new day, the pain reduced significantly.
As an avid watcher, I admit it's not all the time but it does happen a good amount. i think it's calmed down (you'll notice by the hair changes) due to YT ad regulations and all that so you'd have to watch the older stuff haha

I can say that the time I sprained my ankle when I was 18, I could still walk and stand and move around as it slowly swelled up. Highly athletic 18yo coworker: "Keep it warm. Cold is bad. Trust me." It was a few hours before I could get home and put it up, and I was slow moving but capable. I decided to elevate it, ice it, and nap. When I woke up with the ice pack melted... I was in hell. The stiffness the cold created had me nearly collapse on the floor in utter agony, trying to crawl to get around. It remains one of the worse pains in my life I can even remember, and I advise everyone to keep such injuries warm so they can heal. If the area is swollen, but not horrifically so, it's typically trying to heal itself. LET IT DO SO.
Ah yeah that's on your boss for not saying you aren't meant to keep the ice on for long stretches of time, I don't remember how long it is exactly but you keep it on then take it off for a while and repeat
@@ashrowan2143 Yes exactly, unless instructed otherwise you're only supposed to ice for like 15-20 minutes at a time lmao (as told to me by doctors in my area). To my understanding, it really depends what kind of injury you have - like I've done just ice, just heat, and alternating based on what was hurting. But I've NEVER seen anyone do what OP did and leave it on for a full hour or so nap lmfao. 😭
As a Norwegian sports medic, we're taught that ice packs are mostly psychological, and it sure seems that way too. Everyone asks for an ice pack, when we know for a fact that what has the biggest impact is protection, rest and compression.
@@ToxinBrewer Yes, that's a myth. Ice packs might, however, help with numbing the area for the time you have the ice pack on. But mostly it's still psychological really. The best thing you can do for the swelling is early application of compression (within the first 2-3 minutes of the injury). The first application of compression should be quite tight (remember, we're trying to restrict blood flow to the area) for about 15 minutes. Then, after 15 minutes, a looser compression can be put on, for the next 48 hours (but taken off when you are sleeping and showering). But under no circumstance do we want the compression itself to hurt or to cause numbing.
@@vegetablescankill No, you definitely don't want blood clots to form, that'll just kill off your limb or kill you. It just applies pressure, which restricts the blood flow
This was FANTASTIC, and with all the crazy stuff that Rhett and Link do and eat, there is sooooo much content to do more of these episodes. Hahaha 😂 please do!!
3:24 I slipped and fell really hard today while I was running to catch a train and I absolutely would have slammed the side of my head into the concrete, but my hand was just there in between my head and the ground. I don’t know how it got there, but I wonder if somehow I just naturally reacted like that to protect my head. I don’t know exactly how it happened but it definitely saved me from head injury 😬
3:25 Organism develops bipedalism. Organism notices that tripping and falling is much riskier now. Organism instinctively tries to be quadruped again while rapidly approaching the ground.
7:30 When I was a kid the pediatritian always told my family to go back and forth between thick blankets with ice packs, and thick blankets with hot water bottles to encourage blood flow to the chest to break up chest conjestion. Now they just tell my cousins to have a personal massager to do vibrations on the kid's back to break up mucus...or the belly for constipation.
I totally feel the same way.. have been watching even when they were doing the talks in the NC home. There are so many episodes sometimes you forget how much crazy stuff they do!
@@tinntinnamp I feel like they’ve done crazy stuff for so long that it doesn’t phase me as much anymore. 😆 The tasing got me though! That’s just insane! 🤣
Link's fall in the first clip reminds me a lot of my brother's recent injury, as well as a past one. In college he hit a bump on his bike and caught himself on his left hand, breaking his scaphoid. A few months ago, he tripped while trying to hop over something and ended up with a distal radial fracture in his right arm as well as a mild fracture at the end of his left radius near the elbow, which sounds like what Link initially reported feeling.
To be fair about cryotherapy the cold will make you shiver and have your body trying hard to keep warm so maybe it could ever so slightly promote weight loss though that still needs to be tested. Furthermore it actually can help the skin if you count using extreme cold to freeze warts and the like for easier removal and it can come in handy if someone's fever is too high and medications aren't cutting it.
I learned from trampolining lessons that if you fall do NOT put your hands out. You can break your wrist. Instead try to put your hands under your chin to protect your head hitting the ground. It also gives a bigger surface area to land on and you are less likely to break a bone.
the false hypertension thing drives me crazy. All of my doctor's that aren't primary care/medical take my blood pressure these days. The dentist and the optometrist always end up with high readings because they don't know anything about how to take it properly. The numbers have been so high a couple times I end up tracking my blood pressure three times a day for a couple weeks just to make sure.
9:30 I'm unfortunately very prone to ear infections due to "swimmer's ear" that stuff sucks, hurts like heck and doesn't go away for days on end. It happens so much my doctor actually just has that ear drop at the ready for refills, and I can actually tell ahead of time if I'm developing it, and unfortunately, I get it just naturally, haven't actually figured out what causes it but the only thing that makes sense to me is my ear canals are shaped in some way that traps water in it just from moisture in the air or something like that.
Hey, guys, do you have problems with earbuds and headphones? I only have mild swimmers ear, but earbuds and headphones can be a complete joke, which is annoying. Pain after I've been listening to music is not nice.
@@robertwilloughby8050 yeah I can get issues with them, when it comes to earbuds the swelling from the infection makes it hurt like crazy, headphones and earbuds both can make the infection worse due to moisture being trapped.
When I was working in hematology/oncology dept as a medical assistant I almost came unglued when I saw another employee (basically just a scheduler with no training) using a regular adult bp cuff on a cancer patient who weighed around 85 lbs and her chart showed she recently prescribed BP meds (hadn’t picked them up yet thank god) and when I checked her BP with a peds cuff multiple times over the week she had no issues.
A different youtuber you might look at is electroboom. He does various electrical things, including shocking himself, but does know what he's doing for it to be (relatively) safe. The main unsafe one was when he made a jaccob's ladder, and it fell towards him, since that shock wasn't planned.

I thought it was also to reduce swelling, is that a myth?
@@Henoikthe right compression is to promote clotting right? or what's the mechanism?
@@vegetablescankill No, you definitely don't want blood clots to form, that'll just kill off your limb or kill you. It just applies pressure, which restricts the blood flow
This was FANTASTIC, and with all the crazy stuff that Rhett and Link do and eat, there is sooooo much content to do more of these episodes. Hahaha 😂 please do!!
I like when Rhett and Link do food international Rhett is still eating while Link is talking.
I like when mike literally get so upset because they don't consider the facts and what information is missing!🤣🤣
@2:05 A "play whip"? Something you want to tell us, Doc?
loving the level of detail and explanation - rhett and link are just running around doing entertainment and youre doing deep analysis
I've been begging for a Rhett and Link collab for a long time..... I'm thrilled to see at least a reaction video! 🎉
“It’s not broken I just jammed it.”
That’s been my self diagnosis for decades wether it’s my bones or my spirit.
LOVED THIS 😂
Do more! I promise the boys have a LOT more where those came from
His reaction to the length of Links pee makes me wish he saw the length of Rhetts because his time was LONGER
@7:40 icing my injuries is absolutely valuable, at a minimum because im in less pain and can just relax a bit instead of being tense and upset
Dr Mike assessing my favorite duo is just what I needed today. 😂 next thing he needs to do is appear on mythical kitchen and eat his last meal.
Dr Mike is the reason I’m passing biology 😂😂❤
3:25 Organism develops bipedalism. Organism notices that tripping and falling is much riskier now. Organism instinctively tries to be quadruped again while rapidly approaching the ground.
I'd love if you'd review their episode where they did the sensory deprivation tank or maybe their "Will it.." series.
I love when Rhett celebrates something and everyone immediately fears for their lives
Oh boy!!!! My two favorite TH-cam channels, Doctor Mike and Good Mythical Morning, all in one video!!😍
7:30
When I was a kid the pediatritian always told my family to go back and forth between thick blankets with ice packs, and thick blankets with hot water bottles to encourage blood flow to the chest to break up chest conjestion.
Now they just tell my cousins to have a personal massager to do vibrations on the kid's back to break up mucus...or the belly for constipation.
Ive watched their videos every day for years, and I somehow didn’t realize there were injuries to react to. 😂
Thank God Link didn't hit his head when he fell in the 1st clip.
1:53 Can we all acknowledge Dr Mike knows the difference between a real whip and a “play” whip! 🙌🏼
I love Mike's confusion of Rhett and Link's antics xd
I'm not a fan of TH-camrs making outrageous faces in their thumbnail pics, but this genuinely might be my favorite thumbnail pic. 😆
Love this Dr Mike video's. can't wait on a Sunday and Wednesday for new 1000% entertainment and so much to learn. ❤You great Dr Mike and Team

This is a crossover I wasn’t expecting and I love it!

This is the non-collab-collab that I never knew I needed in my life. But here we are. :D
When Dr. Mike says stay happy and healthy and you realize you’re neither. Ooof. 🙃
To be fair about cryotherapy the cold will make you shiver and have your body trying hard to keep warm so maybe it could ever so slightly promote weight loss though that still needs to be tested. Furthermore it actually can help the skin if you count using extreme cold to freeze warts and the like for easier removal and it can come in handy if someone's fever is too high and medications aren't cutting it.
i am a huge huge gmm rhett and link fan and a proud mythical beast
Why is your eye doctor taking your blood pressure??
5:15 That's basically the sum of the waiver from when I went skydiving lmao
9:30 I'm unfortunately very prone to ear infections due to "swimmer's ear" that stuff sucks, hurts like heck and doesn't go away for days on end. It happens so much my doctor actually just has that ear drop at the ready for refills, and I can actually tell ahead of time if I'm developing it, and unfortunately, I get it just naturally, haven't actually figured out what causes it but the only thing that makes sense to me is my ear canals are shaped in some way that traps water in it just from moisture in the air or something like that.
I dont have it that bad, but if i get water in my ears after a shower, then its like a 25% chance of a miserable time...
Great collab . These guys are straight up legends. Good mythical night, Dr. MIKE
Please be a guest on GMM! That would be amazing!!
Ay Rhett guessing that number was peak mental performance 😂
we need you on Good Mythical Morning! PLEASE
Lmao! Dr.Mike your editor deserves a raise. Man hitting ALL the good post script punchlines 😅 thanks for another wonderful video!!❤
3:19 That happened to me too when I was a kid broke my right arm with the fall and yes it feels like you got slammed to the ground
😂😂😂 Nothing like Rhett & Link tasing each other while Dr. Mike is very seriously explaining their injury. 😂😂😂😂
0:44 and that is litteraly the way I broke my arm
When I was working in hematology/oncology dept as a medical assistant I almost came unglued when I saw another employee (basically just a scheduler with no training) using a regular adult bp cuff on a cancer patient who weighed around 85 lbs and her chart showed she recently prescribed BP meds (hadn’t picked them up yet thank god) and when I checked her BP with a peds cuff multiple times over the week she had no issues.
Dr. Mike: Carbonated drinks can irritate sensitive bladders.
Me, who pretty much exclusively drinks carbonated water...
Wish I could have seen Dr. Mike react to Link nearly amputating Chases’ leg 😅
9:20 "A HARRY POTTER SPELL" 😂😂😂
A different youtuber you might look at is electroboom. He does various electrical things, including shocking himself, but does know what he's doing for it to be (relatively) safe. The main unsafe one was when he made a jaccob's ladder, and it fell towards him, since that shock wasn't planned.
