Doctor Reacts To WILD Shark Tank Medical Pitches

  • Shark Tank is one of my favorite shows on TV, and over the years I’ve noticed people pitching various medical products. Today I pulled together all the health pitches from Shark Tank US and Australia and decided to play a shark myself. I donned my best suit, got out my check book, and evaluated these pitches on their medical validity. Honestly, there were some solid products! The synthetic bodies from Syndaver Labs piqued my interest, as did the Simple Sugars Exfoliating Scrub and Throat Scope tongue depressor, which I’ve actually used in real life. Other pitches though, like “ion-canceling watches” or miracle cures for the flu AND common cold… nuh uh, Dr. VarSHARKsi is out. Props to my man Mark Cuban for keeping it real and calling out those scams! Any pitches I missed? Let me know in the comments!

      it's not though, because hypervitaminosis is a thing just like water poisoning(/water intoxication/hyperhydration/overhydration/water toxemia), too much of anything is bad... having too many building materials will not be toxic to you...

      I loved that analogy too and really puts into perspective. It also makes sense why while pregnant you’re advised (even dr mike mentioned in one of his videos) to take pre natal vitamins. You’re building two houses so you have to get extra materials. Genius! 😂

    • @driesjansen3273
      @driesjansen3273 ปีที่แล้ว

      ofc more is not always better, but if you for ex dont get enough vitamin C in your diet, then you can bring that to a normal level. Ofc if you have enough already its not needed. But most vitamins you can't really overdose since you just pee them out. Just the vitamin K, A, D and E are stored in fats so those can be toxic in high amounts. the building analogy of Dr. mike is not really accurate because if you wanna build a building but you have not enough glass, supplying extra glass will speed up the building process.

    • @mx.n.3682
      @mx.n.3682 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Cassxowaryit won't be toxic to you but it's essentially useless, extra building blocks won't help you build faster, they'll just sit there and do nothing, and remember the body is constantly receiving a "supply" so that extra will always remain useless

It's also cheaper to make it yourself and you can adjust the recipe to your liking. As a dude who tried waxing which commercial stuff and even comercial sugar wax, The result was way better with the home made recipe adjusted to be hard enough for my body heat and current weather. I'm guessing with this you can make yourself a light scrub or a heavy scrub depending on the need.
      On a side note, Sugar waxing is as old as the roman empire and I'm guessing sugar scrub is way older then what this lady claims. They probably used it when Europe was first introduced to granulated sugar since they also used it as a abrasive for tooth brushing like salt and sand.

Symptoms that, when I initially described them, he said "well, I just don't know what that could be," and then when I explained my theory, how I'd tested it, and the criteria I met, he said "Yeah, sounds good to me." I was in my 30s and had been dealing with Celiac symptoms my entire life but they'd been overlooked as "growing pains" and my need to "lose weight."

      There is no concrete evidence that walnut shell scrubs like St. Ives are harmful. As long as you're not using excessive scrubbing research doesn't support it causes damage. Though some skin types aren't a fan of it that doesn't mean the product itself is bad. And some people are using it every day instead of a few times a week as specified on the bottle. The lawsuit claiming that was thrown out.
      "In response to the class action lawsuit, Unilever, the parent company for St. Ives, filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit on the grounds that there was no proof the Apricot Scrub was a safety hazard or defective, or that it cause the alleged damage to users' skin. A U.S. District Court judge agreed, dismissed the lawsuit, and also concluded that plaintiffs failed to prove that the "Dermatologist Tested" claims were misleading because the phrase doesn't imply that it's derm-approved." rather it just means derms have tested the scrub."
      "Further, noted the judge’s order, neither of the plaintiffs alleged that they had experienced harm from using St. Ives Apricot Scrub on their faces.
      “In short, plaintiffs haven’t provided sufficient evidence of a safety hazard or product defect that defendant was required to disclose,” concluded the order dismissing the class action allegations.""

    Me: "No scurvy?????"

    • @james0000
      @james0000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      "need" ? Depends. While oranges have something between 50-75% of the recommended amount of vitamin C, there is a lot of disagreement with the recommended amounts for vitamins, minerals and trace elements even the average person should consume, let alone treating individuals as individuals and factoring in if they are currently deficient.
      As far as it having over 100x the vitamin C of an orange, so it's basically like eating a single Kakadu plum. This does not impress me as much as the fact that people think oranges have a lot of vitamin C in them. True, that's the highest amount of vitamin C found in a naturally growing edible plant (Kakadu), but what's that got to do with the price of tea in China?... nothing.
      I don't mean to sound hateful/angry about this at all, but there is still a lot of work to do around vitamin intake research as well as regulations that control what can be said cures different conditions, so I generally get upset when I see a person who should be very well educated and versed on the subject matter say something so silly (The CC, not you Jasmine).
      BTW: I think you aren't legally allowed to say that ANY amount of oranges will cure scurvy, in the USA, even if it will in reality.

      They definitely weigh the lighting against the person pitching. Keeps them more spotlit, and keeps the sharks looking more like shaded, darker figures. And it helps make the pitcher look a bit more exposed. The real trick is keeping the airflow poor, and giving the sharks drinking water so they stay cool, and the pitcher sweats.

      Can doctors cure anything? Not much, if you take a strict definition of cure to mean restoration of the status quo with zero sequelae.
      Cure is too simple a concept. Journalists, not doctors, talk of cures.
      The goal of treatment is not to cure, but to improve quality of life.
      If they could cure everything they would be miracle workers or faith healers every doctor has limitations.
