  • A Classic, "Back to Shore" song, "Leave Her Johnny" has been featured in most media (games, movies, and the like) that feature sailing, The song is addressed to the titular "Johnny" and convincing him to leave the ship after the long voyage at sea. Normally the song would be done with the same melody for each of the 6 verses, but, as I don't want to bore you, I changed things up a bit between verses. Unfortunately audio issues being what they are, there is a bit of audio spikes.
    Lyrics Below:
    Lyrics:
Oh the times were hard and the wages low
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
And the grub was bad and the gales did blow
And it's time for us to leave her
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her
For the voyage is done and the winds do blow
And it's time for us to leave her
I thought I heard the Old Man say
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
You can go ashore and take your pay
And it's time for us to leave her
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her
For the voyage is done and the winds do blow
And it's time for us to leave her
Oh her stern was foul and the voyage was long
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
The winds was bad and the gales was strong
And it's time for us to leave her
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her
For the voyage is done and the winds do blow
And it's time for us to leave her
And we'll leave her tight and we'll leave her trim
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
And heave the hungry packet in
And it's time for us to leave her
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her
For the voyage is done and the winds do blow
And it's time for us to leave her
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her with a grin
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
For there's many a worser we've sailed in
And it's time for us to leave her
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her
For the voyage is done and the winds do blow
And it's time for us to leave her
And now it's time to say goodbye
    Leave her, Johnny, leave her
For the old pier-head's a-drawing nigh
And it's time for us to leave her

    Thank You For Watching!
First Sea Shanty of the New year! I've always loved this song and I really hope you enjoy(ed) it as well!
Fun fact: This got dinged for a copyright claim before I even got it finished processing. This I obviously disputed since the song is *at least* from 1901 (and potentially from 1860).
I'm very grateful for everyone supporting the channel and especially those folks! If you want to support me as well please check out Patreon:

Wow, a copyright claim on a workers song that likely originated on international waters. Makes sense.

Love this shanty! Interesting take on the more melancholic tune, and added verses

I have two suggestions: Marching Through Georgia, and What Would You Do With a Drunken Sailor.

Do you have the name of the painting used as a background?
