I like your format - you review the yarn, do a swatch, explain the value of 'twist' and micron count and then find appropriate patterns to choose for the yarn...well done! Makes it a very complete review.
I immediately love this channel and I'm going through all the existing videos. The only thing that would make these reviews even more helpful would be to compare the yarn to similar yarns. I know people were expecting Daisy to be a dupe of Double Sunday and I'm wondering if its closer to that or a Cascade yarn.
Hello Amy! I wanted to let you know that we just uploaded a comparison video of Drops Daisy and Sandnes Garn Double Sunday if you're interested in checking it out:)
i was looking for a non superwash merino wool bc i dont have a dryer to treat superwash, and i didnt know they have this until your video! this is so cool thank you..
I'm so happy to help! That is a great question and it depends on what kind of yarn I'm looking for to use for a certain project! I am really loving the West Yorkshire Spinners BFL Fleece DK- it looks rustic, but is soft in my opinion!
This yarn is crap. It looked so promising, stitches so perfectly and is a dream to knit but very quickly , as soon as youve finished knitting the garment it has pills. Ive never had anything pill so badly. I have some left to make another project but I cant waste my time for that. Ill have to wait for the right project and pair it with some mohair . Drops superwash merino however is brilliant, better or as good as some expensive brands like pro lana. I even used it for socks, using a sock wool on the sole . No pilling, or.rather one or two on the part that rubs against the shoe, which pulled off easily .
Unfortunately this is a downside for soft yarns like merinos, they're very prone to pilling! We will have to add the superwash merino to our list to review in the future!:)
@@UntwistedThreads In that case Id like to recommend the middle thickness , I think its called "fine" , in the anthracite colour. Ive tried pretty much every colour in every drops yarn except for the yarns which I know will be.crap just by the photos haha ie air, dust and wind or whatever theyre called.
@@UntwistedThreads My husband has had merino underwear and sweaters for decades that havent pilled so I have to disagree. My guess would be that there is good and bad quality merino (the raw material/sheep breed)and theres good and bad yarn production. The good stuff can be used alone and the rest needs something added to make a more decent yarn.
I'm trying to find the right yarn for a large (60" x 84") heavily cabled and textured pattern. It's for my adult son and it will go to the dry cleaner, he won't be washing it. First thought of all cotton but I'm afraid it won't hold its shape. Same with 100% merino? I'm also concerned about pilling. I would have loved Drops Merino Cotton but I need a worsted weight with a gauge of 21/28. I saw the De Rerun Nature Robinson but that is going to cost be close to $250. A bit pricey. Can you recommend a yarn to use?
My first go to if you're wanting to use a different yarn, is to look similar yarn substitutions for the yarn recommended in the pattern. I try to stray away from using a yarn with a different fiber content than the designer and pattern recommends as you mentioned, some fibers do better than others with holding their shape. Depending on his softness tolerance , my go to hearty worsted weight yarn that I like to use (even with sensitive skin) is Cascade Yarns 220 as it is very widely available and has a lot of color options. I was also blown away with Valley Yarns Northampton, which is a little bit softer than the 220. We hope that helps!:)
I have never come across it in any shops I have visited and after looking, wool warehouse, Lindehobby, Etsy and Ritohobby seem to carry it, is it a new yarn? Just asking as substitute yarn webpage has a list of substitutions for this yarn xx
Have you used mohair a lot? I personally haven't used it with any of my projects but I didn't know that mohair is actually less soft than merino, so I can understand how it could be prickly! Alpaca is actually a little bit softer than mohair, so maybe a suri alpaca would be something that you could experiment with!:)
That is a great question, and I was confused at first too! Yarn weights (like fingering, sport, dk, etc) are the standard, but unfortunately not universally used. While I may not have an exact answer, I believe it is a UK based grouping system!
I always use the gauge quoted for each yarn rather than the group. If I have the gauge from the pattern I can select a yarn appropriately. I love Drops yarn as it's excellent value, top quality and always has a fantastic range of colours.
How am I only now discovering this channel? LOVE your content! Thank you for summarizing so many topics that I've often been searching for on my own!
You are too kind! Thank you! I'm so happy you're here! :)

Thank you so much Maureen, I really appreciate it! :)
good review! I haven't seen this yarn, thanks! One thing: the suggested gauge is 21 stitches, not 121.
I thought I was hearing things😂
How funny! Thank you for letting me know!!😂
I wondered how you would get 121 stitches in 4 inches! 😂
@@hanab837 That knitting project would take way too long! 🤣
I love your pattern suggestions at the end of your videos :)
Thank you! I am so happy you enjoy them!:)

Thank you so much Amy! You are exactly correct! I would love to do a comparison of the two side by side. Maybe soon!:)

You're very welcome! I think it's a great yarn!
This yarn seems almost perfect, thanks ❣️ what is your perfect yarn?

I can get it in Ireland from an Irish wool store :-)
I'm so happy to hear!
Love your reviews. Would like to know how the yarn behaves after washing and drying.
Thank you! From washing and drying the swatch, I didn't notice much of a change:)
Your softness rating sounded quite general. How does this yarn compare to for examples Drops baby merino or big merino. Or other well known yarns?
I would love to do a comparisons video including those yarns too! Thank you for the suggestion!
Drops Daisy not in my local Yarn store in UK. Wool Warehouse often have Drops yarn on sale.
Maybe they will soon! And you're exactly right, I believe they're having a Drops alpaca sale right now!

It's a new yarn, yes!
Yes, it came out just this August!
Wow the substitute is out way too soon 😂😂 I will be looking now x thanks
I used this with the silk mohair- very prickly
Anyone else have this experience?

Why does Drops use groups to categorize each yarn? I always have to Google what weight they are 😂

It is nice but it pills
I am so sorry to hear that :( Unfortunately that can happen with softer non-superwash yarns
Softness does pill x
