    I’ve been in the field for 10 years , the last 5 working on chillers air and water cooled comfort cooling and process and boilers. You’re my favorite chiller related channel and really appreciate the time you put into your videos . I have gone through the process of creating and editing a few videos myself , so I know how much time and effort and it takes . Just wanted to say I appreciate the time you put into these while already having a home life and a full time job , all the intention to spread knowledge within our field

    pretty neat trick with the sight glass to find the oil level! Thanks for sharing

    Those Trane chillers... Always expecting surprise from it. The first time I got touch with one was when I had no idea that there's an oil cooler integrated with condenser 😂 And taking infrared camera for service too, because of this oil separator and compressor having no sight glass 😅

    My friend. I bought transparent hoses on Aliexpress 5 years ago. Re-equipped in the hydraulic press. I have a supply of such hoses. With them I go to Chiller. But I still don't understand Trane's designers. In total, you need to cut three or two glasses into the oil separator. RTAA is the best model for me. and the 22nd refrigerant is the best refrigerant for high evaporation temperatures.

    Very smart idea with the sight glass on the hoses. I will for sure be using that in the future when in a pinch.

      They mak a nice tall 8 or 10" tall sight glass that's similar with 1/4" flair fittings on it that make it easier to identify the level. I used one once, unfortunately it wasn't mine so I'm typically using the method he shows with the little sight glass.

    I worked for Trane and their RTAA - RTAC units. I've found the oil filter to be culprit very often. Oil would be moved out of the compressor into the Cond. Barrel. Replace the the oil filter and dryer and this problem will disappear.

    I’ve worked on this model before. Did the oil level thing. Wish they would have put in two sight glasses, one at the low limit and one at the high. Would be less of a PITA. Did you find out why the level was low, and where the oil went? On the unit we had, one circuit was flat on delivery, and two compressor processor boards were bad.

    A few months ago i bought a Hikmicro Pocket2 thermal camera....it is pretty dang nice and has good resolution. I also have the Flir One Pro which is also pretty decent...but i like the Hikmicro over the Flir

  • @sterlingarcher46

    The whole temperature difference i didn't quite grasp because I'm not used to this type of oil management, I'm gonna watch again and try and do some research.
    Bitzer has an integrated oil separator which seems to work pretty well .

  • @REFEREEMOUSE

    Nice catch. My question is about the oil. There are no oil leaks and things of that nature since you didn’t say it. Do you think the oil is trapped in the evap, it had to go somewhere?
    I heard you say you changed the compressor.

    So where did the oil go? Oil loss over the years of checking the level and random repairs?

    • @HVACTIME
      @HVACTIME  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And a compressor replacement. New compressor was shipped dry but additional oil was never added. Old compressor took a large quantity of oil with it.

    Where did the oil go? Is it traped in the system somewhere or leak out?

    • @HVACTIME
      @HVACTIME  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This circuit has had several repairs due to leaks and other component failures including a compressor change out within the last year. Our estimation is that during the duration of all of these events it led to the oil level getting too low in the system.

    Was the chiller low on oil, or was it trapped in the evaporator?

    • @HVACTIME
      @HVACTIME  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To verify it wasn't trapped. We were able to get the circuit to fully stage and run for a few days. Even after adding oil we made a return trip to ensure that the levels did not increase.
