      Have you been to the Hindi Belt? Everyone is trying to scam you all the time. I am sure it's especially bad if you're a white tourist, they have not the slightest compunctions about spending days befriending you just so they can scam you in the end, but it really feels like this is part of the culture overall. I realize that there is crime in every country (and that there are honest people in every country), but I was really impressed with how scamming seems to be a natural and ubiquitous part of Indian culture.

It doesn't need to be a major, but school aged kids do need to study it to some degree to become well balanced. If you skip all of that then you're missing out on a huge piece of the human experience. For that matter, philosophy classes are also super important for kids, and that's something that is generally ignored unless you want to study it in college on purpose. We also need financial literacy for the younger grades also.... And history should NEVER be skipped, by anyone. There are a whole bunch of subjects which are essential for growing minds. Believe it or not, most conflict about this scammer will agree with you that the scammer would've in fact tried to scam him. The problem actually lies in those who don't like the scammer in this argument, who seem to want to scream "BURN THEM AT THE STAKE" and use scammers as a scapegoat as a way to show moral superiority (which to those who believe this... scammers are crummy, but they're humans too, people just like you and me).
      But as I was thinking about your statement, I realized that there's two completely different mindsets at play here, as our side can be seen as a group of weak-minded people who, in a fit of shame, become more likely to get scammed (and to fellow empaths, remember to stand tall and know when to double down).
      And all of this is weird, because if this is the case then both sides technically agree this scammer would've tried to scam him, but the problem is that there's legitimate "radicals" on each side, which "prove the point" to the other side. Soon we're fighting all over again, in any debate to extents.

    This Amazon scam was the scam that I saved my dad from. My dad handed the phone off to me so I could do all the computer stuff, and the absolute first thing I did was log in to my dad's account, and I pointed out to the scammer "I don't see this new purchase you're talking about." The scammer said something about how it's encrypted and how it won't show up on the site which made no sense to me. The moment I was told to download AnyDesk, I left the guy hanging in dead air for several minutes while I looked up information about that software, because I never heard of it before then. He hung up first; I guess he caught on to the fact that I was leaving him hanging on purpose. XD

I want to give him the benefit of the doubt that his reasons for scamming are to put food on the table (rather than straight greed), but at the end of the day he took a dark path and knows it. If it's in his heart to find an honest living, I hope he does. But in the short term I assume he's just gonna keep scamming vulnerable people and that super sucks.

    • @462n
      @462n 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just wanted to add that from what I understand a lot of scammers do feel like it's the only way to make enough money to put food on the table. A lot of them work for businesses and their bosses are the ones who get all of those thousands of dollars, not them. Also many of them go into their new job thinking it's a legitimate business, and when they find out what it is they are told that Americans have tons of money and they won't miss a couple thousand too much.
      (Clarifying that a lot of scammers are just greedy, just wanted to emphasize how imo a lot of them probably would find an honest living if they could)
