Attack of the Autobots | Transformers: Generation 1 | Season 2 | E10 | Hasbro Pulse
A solar power satellite is desired by the Decepticons. To pull off the theft, they need the Autobots out of the way. Rather than try to destroy them, however, Megatron hatches a plan to change their loyalties instead. The keys to this plot are sabotaged energy rechargers in the Autobot base. Now, when they use them, the unknowing Autobots are imprinted with Decepticon ideals and forced to act just like them. Only Bumblebee and Jazz escape this fate. Sparkplug comes up with an invention to change the Autobots back, but they still have to stop the Decepticons.

I think this was the inspiration for the Michael Bay movie The Last Knight when Bumblebee talked to Optimus to make him free from his evil Nemesis Prime persona.

In this show the autobots felt less like a military group and more like friends who all chose to work together under one banner.
The fact that Bluestreak was the only one at base when Bumblebee showed up implies that Megatron thinks that Bluestreak is too useless to retrieve blueprints.

Decepticons are clever, they always come up with a new plan in every episodes. On the other side, Autobots are so passive. They just wait and counter any Decepticon movement.
They have to protect earthlings. In exchange the earthlings give them all the energy they need so they don't need to raid bases for energy anymore like pirates. It makes logical sense because the government can't mass produce their own defense against decepticons who are on a whole new level of technological advancement in terms of robotics. They are literally sentient aliens with self healing bio-mechanical bodies. Only thing humans can do is offer a resistance movement if the autobots can't outright win the war. And now you know why so many fans of the comics and cartoons are angry at the michael bay movies which tried too hard to give humans the spotlight. It should have been the autobots working with humans and the humans play a background role. But hollywood always screws something up. TF live action movies tried to make the mistake of copying those godzilla movies that focus too much on human reacting to things rather than the Godzilla fighting stuff. And Michael Bay TF live action went with this angle. Hopefully in future Hasbro can pressure the hollywood executives to stop focusing so much on humans and have humans act as backup for autobots in mecha suits but not be the SPOTLIGHT. Make the Transformers as important as they are in the cartoons with their own personalities and agenda and fighting styles. Transformers can evolve from "generic popcorn flick" to a true science fiction action franchise with characters you care about like the marvel movies we have now.

@@c.glazercrush3994, the main differences are that in TF5, Optimus' eyes change from blue to purple & he has a red mark on the right side of his head, but here, his eyes just change from blue to red & he doesn't have the red mark on the side of his head that he has in TF5.
Here, I'd say Bumblebee was brave and heroic. He definetly saved the day.

Teletran usually talks like he basically has no personality or feelings and is just an overly complex computer but on the rare instance just like here it's really shown that he actually does have a personality much like the Autobots although it's rarely shown I would just like to point it out seeing how I don't really see anyone talking about it ever
OK, given that Teletran has a personality... why did it repair the Decepticons in the first episode? Teletran got some 'plaining to do, Lucy!
@@heedmywarning2792 The computer was damaged in the crash and the earthquake/volcano shook it around and woke it up. It's like how facial recognition might be fooled if you place picture of a guys face instead of your own face. Computers are not perfect. In fact the computer thought the earth's inhabitants were the vehicles and not the walking bags of flesh. It makes sense for the computer to make this assumption (it's from an alien planet remember) since on the computer's homeworld everyone has mechanical bodies there. When it scans the inhabitants of earth it will see cars traveling on roads and think "those are the native inhabitants of the planet so we better create disguises that look like these cars to fool the earthlings" and unfortunately the computer scanners ignored the walking bags of flesh.
This created so much wasted potential. I love the concept of Teletraan becoming sentient. That's why this is one of my favorite G1 episodes.

Megatron plans are always so involved. I love it. Anyone else would simply use that invisibility spray and plant a small nuclear device in their base and kill most of them.
This was a better plan. Why just kill your enemies when you can turn them into allies and double the size of your army in the process?

So Megatron hacked & reprogrammed the Autobots, basically defeating them. But Decepticons don't really want an easy victory since they exist for the battle: the war is not meant to be won - by anyone.
Optimus could have won if he wanted he had plenty of opportunities to finish megatron
Prime had the dinobots and omega Supreme and more trusting human allies
Plus he had mechanics and scientists and his own.air squad and rescue squad he had enough to defeat megatrin
Rodimus should have wiped the decepticons from existence he had the chance to destroy them all.when they left cybertron he could have had cyclonus and scourge hunted down where they never rescued galvatron
@@chrisedwards3214 This is Season 2, episode 10 my dude. Prime had the Dinobots, but at this episode there isn't Omega Supreme yet. Spike is able to give faith but he can easily get caught by Laserbeak. He have machanics and scientists, but there are too little while the 'Cons just leave it to machine and computers. Also air squad and rescue squad hasn't arrived yet (except Jetfire/Skyfire and Powerglide) nor Rodimus.
He reprogrammed the constructicons and combaticons as well.
Yet he never thinks in using it on Perceptor when he was kidnapped for corrostop, nor use it in Beachcomber for the golden lagoon, nor even used it on Starscream for pretty much any episode you could think of.

Damn, that scene in TF5 the lask knight when a possessed Optimus Prime with red eyes is saved by Bumblebee trying to talk through to his heart came from this random G1 episode. It's fascinating watching these and realize almost every plotpoint in the movies came from the show. They were more "faithful" to it than I thought at first.

Bumblebee knew he wasn't evil. He hugged him instead of bashing him like a little bug. Optimus finds all lifeforms precious. Even little insects.
That Rumble transformation was dope
I was actually surprised with as many autobots that at least briefly appeared like Trailbreaker, Sideswipe & Gears there was no Ironhide presence in this episode. The other one i think would have worked in this episode is Wheeljack since he is usually the one inventing different devices they should have had him also working with Sparkplug.
Thats the thing about G1 theres are so many characters the writers seem to forget who does what.
I hate the fact that this is the last time we see Skyfire. He would've been a good leader for the Aerialbots.
There was some behind the scenes stuff going on with the toy being identical to the Robotech toy

Yay, licensing issues! It's also why the Insecticon's bigger bros, the Deluxe Insecticons, didn't appear in the cartoon.

this is why Optimus is one of the greatest, he was strong enough to resist on his own, because his inherent goodness could never be reprogrammed, but also because he inspires bots like Bumblebee to have the courage to face danger and stand strong.

This is one of the two episodes where Starscream appears, but has no speaking roles.
I loved this cartoon growing up in the 80's this showed kids good vs evil. And showed us kids good always beats evil. And you always had your favorite transformer with you while watching mine was bumblebee because I was a short kid.
Even though I’m not from the 80s, I 100% agree. Having your favorite figures with you while you’re watching the show(s) definitely makes it better.

This was as close to a solo spotlight episode for Jazz that he ever got, as well as a major action moment for Ratchet when he and Optimus leap out of Skyfire onto the rocket. And Ratchet trying to grab credit for saving the day was hilarious!

Megatron & Starscream were invincible when they put the personality destabilizer. Teletran 1 didn't detect them. Then when teletran gets repaired they show Megatron putting that into the machines lol. Ok how is that possible when teletran didn't see this to begin with?

God I love Jazz. My second fave after optimus Prime. There will never be another cool black guy robot to replace him. I get now why (apart from Transformers Animated) all the other TF cartoons lack soul! The character design and personality isn't as good as the 1980s and everyone is so serious. (go watch TF siege, TF earthrise, TF kingdom on netflix to know what I mean) Trasnformers Prime and Beast Wars got close but they forgot how to make character cool and finish people off in style that shows each character is creative in fighting. If you binge watch a show and rewatch you will notice repetition in how fights play out but in the G1 stories they make sure to mix it up.
I certainly agree. They took extra care in these G1 episodes to make everyone unique and relatable. We all know that person that plays music all the time (Jazz, Blaster), the pessimist (Huffer), the soldier (Ironhide, Warpath), the whiner/complainer (Gears), the hustler (Swindle), someone who is dimwitted (Skywarp, Trypticon, Sludge), arrogant (Sunstreaker, Tracks, Grimlock, Starscream), unsure of their place in life (First Aid), loyal (Soundwave, Cyclonus), paranoid (Red Alert), self-doubting (Rodimus), perfectionist (Grapple, Hook), strong leaders (Prime, Megatron), etc. Many iterations of the Transformers after G1 seemed to have forgotten these aren't just machines but they have personality, too.

@@UToobUsername01 Absolutely, they put thought into it! In Soundwave's bio, it said his hearing is so acute he can hear a fly sneeze. He would use his super hearing to eavesdrop and blackmail people with the info he learns. Then you have Thundercracker and Dead End who don't really care for the war. They probably leaned even more into their personalities in the comics. They seem to really go in-depth!

One of the most memorable episodes for me. Outside of the plot, I remember watching this as a kid on the hub early one morning while getting ready for Cedar Point.

If transformers shattered glass where autobot cars and trucks are evil and decepticon planes are good does exists then they would make a tv series and movie series about it.
This was a nice change of pace for the G1 by having the Autobots brainwashed into being evil and go on a rampage, i enjoyed this episode mainly for seeing Optimus Prime out of control which was something by this point you rarely ever saw and it wouldn't be the last time that we would see this as the show would revisit a similar scenario in season 3's Dark Awakening where he was brought back as an out of control robotic zombie. The highlight of this episode was Bumblebee trying to convince him he's not evil with the two sharing a hug after Prime is restored back to normal was a nice father son moment.
Side note: all of the events that took place in Attack Of The Autobots would have been a great set up for the Megatron's Master Plan two part episode where the world was tricked into turning on the Autobots. It could have worked as a story arc kind of like what they did in season 1 with The Ultimate Doom & Countdown To Extinction
Ironically, both this and Dark Awakening are some of G1's least popular episodes.
