Your story reminds me of what my professor Tom Lyle used to tell us. He wanted to make sure his students didn't feel bad not landing a job right out of college. And that no one was ever too old to start pursuing art. He would tell us he didn't know what he wanted to do until his 30s when he started to pursue art. He would go to portfolio reviews, conventions, etc. And there was one guy who always told him to give up, he started too late and was too old. Tom Lyle ended being an artist for Spiderman (and more!) He would always laugh when he told us that and that the other guy was a fool for doubting him. He was awesome and really cared about his students.
Tonight’s another sleepless night feeling lost months after graduation… I needed to see this. Tom Lyle was a gem of a man and a great professor..miss him!!!!

When I was younger I wanted to be an artist, I wanted to write my own stories and for the most part illustrate them myself But I was someone that if I didn't see immediate improvement I would get dejected, and dejected I was. It's been 10 years or so since I last drew anything, but a little bit ago I found your channel and fell in love with your work. Your story reminded me of what I had always wanted to do, and I was disappointed in myself for stopping something I honestly dreamt of doing for no real reason. I want to pick up drawing again, and maybe in some years I'll be able to illustrate one of my own writings like I've always wanted to. Thanks to anyone who reads this! I'd liked drawing since I was 6 years old and I drew constantly and went to competitions. But one day I just got bored of it decided to quit. Watching this motivated me to give it a shot again (I've been trying to learn how to draw characters of my own for the longest time but I still suck). Hopefully this time I don't quit and keep practicing

I loved this comic series!!!! Mainly because of your art, it was so unique and different. i loved spideys suit (tried to draw the front spider a bunch of times) and i really liked Peter's design and doctor connor's adaptation!! it reminded me a little bit of the 2003 MTV series, that was 3D animated and Curt's storyline was also kinda sad. (not as sad as yours tho, lol)
I really love seeing that even after your childhood you still held on to your dreams and aspirations, as from what I've seen my dad kind of gave up on what he wanted to do... you're an inspiration, Scott :]
Don't blame your dad, sometimes things just don't work out, or you find that the sacrifice needed to make your dream come true isn't worth it in the end. It's important to have dreams and to try to achieve them, but if things don't work out in the end that's ok too, as long as you are happy with your choices, or can live without regrets.

Years later, a 3D version of Spider-Man on MTV reminded me of your work... And Then One day, random weeks ago, on shorts, a video popped up it (Lord of the Rings character) and I subscribed! Now, come to find out that I've known you artistically without knowing you since I was too young to comprehend that each series, story and artwork are done by different artists. How miraculous that your dream came true! YET despite your dreams coming true you are still so humble, kind, and joyful. Gives little and big me hope that the dreams myself and close peers harbor can come true with perseverance, patience and passion! Truly a blessing Scott.

Your '60 days of studying the masters' has rejuvenated my love for art has has inspired me to get back into doing studies of artsts that arent necessarily my usual 'style'. The passion you have for artsts and their work is contagious and i cant wait to get myself down to my local art gallery next weekend and get sketching. Ive even dropped the drawing tablet in favour of watercolours as i feel like it gives you more of a connection to the work and forces you to adapt with the chaos of watercolours as youve put it. I wanna be an animator for big animation studios and get to work on spider-verse. I'm scared i wont be able to make this a reality.

No way!! I remember seeing issue 4 of Quality of Life in a shop when I was a kid and spending my piggy bank savings on it! I was so blown away by a comic (especially Spider-Man, my favorite) done in CG! It captured me and I eventually picked up the rest of the series when I was able to. Your work got me interested in 3D as a medium outside of film, and now 20 years later, I work as a 3D generalist (mostly making static images, ha!) Since I found this channel, I keep discovering more and more projects you've been a part of that were huge parts of my childhood. Thank you, Scott - for all of the inspiration! Excelsior!

Genuinely thank you for making this video. I'm a young artist and I've been struggling on the path of pursuing my creative dreams, time and again either my writing, drawing, painting, or musical interests would crush me because I had such high dreams. This is what I really needed. My dream is to write my own book or even a story in general and I know that no matter how long it's gonna take, it's gonna happen.

I've been loving your content for a while now, i had no idea you were the artist for those issues! They were given to me as a gift a while back. Awesome knowing i have a piece of your work.
Stuff like this helps me to remember that at one point any creator out there went threw something like this, and even if everything was against them. Even if everything was stopping in there way, they still kept going onwards to eventually end up finally to fulfilling there dream they wanted for many years. Anything can happen and even if it takes years and years it will happen eventually, with time and hard work and sometimes a bit of luck. its something I need to remind myself more often, as I often forget that a lot. I don't know when my time will happen for me but for now I will just keep on going for now even if I doubt myself a lot and give up too easily a lot in fear of failure and disappointment. But even so, I will try to keep on going and see what happens next for me.
Scott, ever since i was a kid, music was my dream job. I've worked so hard at it for 8 years now. I turn 18 in a couple weeks and I always compare myself to what age my favorite musicians were releasing music at, and it frustrates me to no end. I hope I can achieve my dream just like you did. I believe natural talent isnt a thing. I think love is what gets you places. I love music enough to make this work for me. Thank you Scott, ill be working hard until i get my spiderman moment. ❤
I've always wanted to be an artist, but that dream died down because of time and money. We don't have any comicbooks here in our humbling province. But seeing you as an artist inspired me to continue that dream and to never let that spark die down.

Even if the designs of characters from 2 decades looked wonky from technological limitations it's very amazing how good it still looked.

HOLY COW I OWN THAT SERIES!!! It's one of the few full runs I have, I got it when I was starting out drawing comics in high school in an after school art club.

Genuinely thank you for making this video. I'm a young artist and I've been struggling on the path of pursuing my creative dreams, time and again either my writing, drawing, painting, or musical interests would crush me because I had such high dreams. This is what I really needed. My dream is to write my own book or even a story in general and I know that no matter how long it's gonna take, it's gonna happen.

I've been loving your content for a while now, i had no idea you were the artist for those issues! They were given to me as a gift a while back. Awesome knowing i have a piece of your work.
Stuff like this helps me to remember that at one point any creator out there went threw something like this, and even if everything was against them. Even if everything was stopping in there way, they still kept going onwards to eventually end up finally to fulfilling there dream they wanted for many years. Anything can happen and even if it takes years and years it will happen eventually, with time and hard work and sometimes a bit of luck.
its something I need to remind myself more often, as I often forget that a lot. I don't know when my time will happen for me but for now I will just keep on going for now even if I doubt myself a lot and give up too easily a lot in fear of failure and disappointment. But even so, I will try to keep on going and see what happens next for me.

Scott, ever since i was a kid, music was my dream job. I've worked so hard at it for 8 years now. I turn 18 in a couple weeks and I always compare myself to what age my favorite musicians were releasing music at, and it frustrates me to no end. I hope I can achieve my dream just like you did. I believe natural talent isnt a thing. I think love is what gets you places. I love music enough to make this work for me. Thank you Scott, ill be working hard until i get my spiderman moment. ❤

I've always wanted to be an artist, but that dream died down because of time and money. We don't have any comicbooks here in our humbling province. But seeing you as an artist inspired me to continue that dream and to never let that spark die down.
I remember that everyone said this comic has bad art, but I believe that your art is genuinely awe inspiring. I remember when I was in my early ages that you made the first comics I read. And I genuinely loved and appreciated that you kept going even through criticism.
Man, I like you. I have a real issue with self-righteousness in artists, but you come across in a nice humble fashion. It's not like you're trying hard to be deep, but rather that you're presenting things professionally. You do well at it.
