As soon as I saw that barrel resting on the wall I knew it right away! Good catch on that and lucky the deer wasn’t just wounded!

Humility is a blessing. Thank you for sharing the wisdom and glory within your hunts. Your "character" shines through. And as a new hunter, I value all the effort and detail you impart.

The charm of hunting is that you don’t always can take a shot and hunt a deer. We have all failed sometimes.Thank you for sharing your experience, always so fun to watch your movies. Greetings from Eva in Sweden.

Thank you Keith for your honesty what happened on that shot.
Many people can learn from that experience you had.
In order to feel the highs of hunting you have to experience the lows also.
That's what makes the highs so great along the way.
Great show and thanks again for keeping it real and honest.

Even worse is hitting that glorious buck and not recovering him. I've done both, and all you can do is exactly what you said- keep hunting and moving forward. Just being in that setting is a blessing in itself-beautiful wilderness.

I always use my scope to secure my rifle when shooting.... competitive shooting. Thats not the problem because its seated into the stock itself. Anything behind the barrel itself wont change your shooting accuracy .......other then the shooter ! Its only the " barrel " that changes things !

I noticed you did that with your gun before you explained it .But a clean miss is better than a wounded buck. What caliber of sako are you using ? Is it a 85 or 75 ? I have a 85 finlight

Are you sure the second big deer a year later wasn’t the same deer? Had the same frame but maybe he was declining. Man they sure looked similar. And yes as soon as I watched you put the barrel on the wood I was saying, “I hope you’re not going to shoot like that”!

Please explain...if I were in the same situation, I would have done the same. Only thing different is that I would be wearing an orange safety vest and have my head lamp on for safety. The hunter was making every effort to help recover the deer. J-walking is also against the regulations. Most of us have done that! To me its a non-issue.

That's too bad. It's good to show these things because there are so many videos out there with guys shooting these huge bucks at crazy ranges, high 5-ing each other, making it look effortless. Anyone who has hunted long enough has had this kind of thing happen to them. I've had misses like that up close and I've connected at 450 yards. I've also had solid, thoracic rifle shots on deer and lost them due to expansion failure or fragmentation with projectiles that are supposed to be "deadly". We do the best we can but sometimes in the field, all bets are off. Sorry you lost the buck. You'll get 'em next time!

Not to be "that" guy... but understand that the Alberta regulations are very clear. You cannot leave your static position unless you are with your guide. The fact that he is on his way and you are losing day light does not justify you leaving your blind with a rifle to go and see if you have blood. This is a direct violation of the regulations. The amount of this crap we see on social media is astounding.
