This was an incredible performance live as well. Congrats to Allison and PMJ for getting this particular version stuck in my head on repeat for the last 4 nights.
Elizabeth! Fancy seeing you here! Yes, Allison's great. Really nice voice (but I'd love to hear your take on that, with a reaction sometime?). I first saw her accompanied by her pal Josh Turner, doing covers like _Crazy_ and _Autumn in New York,_ then discovered her channel. Lots of really interesting songs there, that go perfectly with her vintage look.
As someone who has listened to practically all versions of this song and is by far one of my all time favorite songs. This is absolutely one of I'd not THE weakest version I've ever heard.
As someone who dresses vintage and once dyed their hair an orangey red, she has exactly the aesthetic I was TRYING to go for. Unfortunately I’m a chubby Hispanic and tan skin isn’t the most flattering paired with red hair, so I looked more like a caramelized Ronald Macdonald. For real though she’s seriously beautiful
As a lifelong Pixies fan I clicked on this expecting to hate it. And... honestly? I can't fault it. Her voice hits different... and the whistles gave me goosebumps.
Why though? I'm a pretty big fan of Pixies myself and I thought a 60s lounge style cover would be pretty fitting for the song. If I had any little criticisms before clicking it would just be "Oh look, another Where is my Mind cover." since it's one of the most accessible and easy to reinterpret Pixies songs.
as a where is my mind addict, is refreshing to hear a totally new cover of this wonderfull song, probably in my top 3 along with the original and maxence cyrin version
@@squatchjosh1131 Right. I quickly found 46 performers who have covered this song. That and divisive, lazy movie/TV use has this great becoming a karaoke-esque joke.
This is so beautiful. The kind of unexpected cover you would hear in a series finale to a beloved series and you would immediately scramble on to TH-cam to search for.
@@salvatormundi5184 The title suggests the arrangement or vocal style is “Orbison-esque”. I’m not hearing it. That said, beautifully sung and arranged.
It makes me sad to see how many people think that art is just something you have to have talent for and that's that. Not only does it devalue all the practice, time, blood, sweat and tears that the performer has put into their craft, but it also devalues what YOU are able to do if you also put in practice. Art is practice. Art is dedication. No one is born being able to sing, draw, or play an instrument. And you can do it too!
As someone who can barely sing, i am so envious of her fluid whistle. It does sound like a flute! It reminds me of Aurora singing to the birds in Sleeping Beauty

I love Alisson!!! She has such a great voice, her passion in her singing is easily reflected and heard. You can also see it in her movement! I may have just a little crush on her 😜
I always imagined the original sung in a dark huge cave at the beach far from people, after a wild night in the city with the wrong crowd, but this takes the same song, oh so faithfully, with a different wistful personality in a ballroom setting. Great arrangement, vocals, whistles, and wardrobe! Special mention to the cellist showing you can play great accompanying cello and still vibe to the music.. There is in particular one "where" in this song which is breathtaking. Thank you.
This will be my earworm tomorrow. No complaints. Allison Young- superb singer, musician, songwriter and performer. The planets aligned on the day this lady was born.
Oh my, I love this song and I love Allison Young! Your Mr. Blue Sky cover with her is one of my favorites. This was a dream. Her whistle fits the song perfectly. Loving the new covers! Thank you!
I love everything about this video. It's amazing the way that you can screenshot pretty much any moment from it and the lighting with Alisson's face and poses make it look like a Renaissance painting.
Heavenly and at the same time so Earthly. Pixies version is so overwhelming and hypnotizing in a way that makes you feel absorbed. Nevertheless, these arrangements provoke an overwhelming and hypnotizing feeling that elevates the spirit. I could visualize the lyrics with a bit of irony and beauty, less nostalgic than before. It brought me warmth.
Gorgeous, makes me feel 40 years younger watching Allison sing, well done PMJ on another outstanding performance, and thank you Allison, ohhhh thank you dear XX
Alison is a great singer and whistler. A beautiful voice and a fine presentation. That has got to be just about the largest ensemble in any of these videos.

"Mr Blue Sky" is my favorite PMJ's cover. I was reluctant to watch this one because I thought I could be disappointed. Let me say that I wasn't. Great job Allison and PMJ! Ok, I actually have a question: how can I stop watching it over and over?
The most fabulous Maxence Cyrin version was played at my 99 year old mother's funeral a couple of weeks ago. She would have *loved* to have heard and seen this, superb, version too. Thank you kindly.

This one took a few re-listens to like. Allison Young is one of my favorite performers on here, but this is one of my all time favorite songs. It has just such a unique vibe, and I have a lot of memory and emotion wrapped up in it that no cover could ever tap into. An Orbison pastiche should have been the closest pre-pixies style to achieve that, but this was just too... classical. I've come around to appreciating it on its own merits. The strings are beautiful and Allison is immaculate as always, especially around 2:15 leading into the whistles. Its missing something in translation but it has gained something else entirely and I've actually caught it playing in my head a few times now.
I didn’t know this song(can you imagine?) and immediately after hearing here looked on TH-cam for the original and plenty of covers. And then came back here, this one being the very best!
This is somehow far more jarring than the original. It’s the airy carefree composition smashing against the lyric’s which create this absurdist moment that I can’t get enough of. Beautiful.
